A big part (at least for me) of the fun is getting your own data. With your own gear. Knowing that you're the one that did the work to get the data.
Obviously it would be nice to be able to get some targets on the other hemisphere that you can't get.. but.. still.. for me it's lacking a part of the charm.
Why not just download the Hubble files then?.. the Raw files for that are available, it's all public.
if the only goal is to practise the processing of the data?
Excellent stuff as ever, Peter! Can't wait to see your RASA vids! Best wishes from Scotland! :)
Thank you Peter for this great video!

Very cool! There is nothing better than your own capture. It’s magic. Using someone else’s gear. Hard to believe this sort of thing is available. Incredible. Checking it out. In VT, got plenty of cloudy nights. Very good alternative. Thanks for posting.
Wow, great resource! I'm still a newbie, but I love seeing what is out there for my frustrating nights in the future.
This is awesome!!! Huge benefit in learning. Thank You!!!!
I photographed The Running Chicken nebula a few nights ago in my Observatory. I wouldn't mind having a crack at The Andromeda galaxy which I can't see here very well at all.
Excellent tutorial!
Great video, thanks.
Another cool sight is slooh, my astronomy teacher in high school is having us use it. It doesn’t take as good photos but it has quests based on taking the photos and is pretty fun.
This is great!!!
Love from India 😀
Wow nice! I wish I would have had this at the start of Covid. Also as a parent, I can't always get out to take pics and sacrifice sleep on my way out to my dark site...it's as if my toddler knows...
Hi Peter! Take a look at telescopium.com. They will show you pictures of the object, and you can put in the telescope focal length and camera sensor size to get exactly what the object will look like.
Hi :) as im waiting for my first astrophotography equipment i tried out this website and downloaded some Raw files to practice. I did the stacking like in youre video but when i try to edit them in photoshop using the 16 bit layer, everytime i stretch something its only black and white and no "details" what so ever are revealled. it really only works when i switch to 32 bit as the picture then looks like it should. do you or anyone know why this happens?
What if you are not using a monochrome camera? Can you specify color subframes so you can practice in that mode?
This is GREAT Peter! I'm in St George and we have had a lotta clouds this year too. Record Rainfall for this time of year too.
Nice tutorial. My only issue is creating the RGB image: when pasting the S2 or O3 onto the respective channel, the entire image becomes red or blue. Don't know what I am doing wrong... :(
same here :(
Welcome back....
The only downside is the cost per image, i planned out a regular session, 5 10 minute subs on HSO on their big scope and it came out to $850 in credits.
I could see using this site for southern hemisphere objects. Jus curious on how you would remove the purple stars?
i guess u cant because its caused by the filters
depends on what software you are using. In PixInsight, you can use the Correctmagentastars script, or SCNR (Green) on an inverted image.
Thanks that is stellar 👌 But would you post such an image not really taken by your gear on your social stream? Whats the rights situation there 😁?
I believe that they ask you credit them for the capture but you own the copyright for the final image. All of the online remote telescopes operate the same way.
@@jackdeangelis6585 fare enough 👌
This is what they say on their website: "Any post-processed image obtained from any observing modality (One-Click-Observations, Pro Datasets, or Advanced Requests) is owned by the user who creates the image. There is no need to credit Telescope Live, and Telescope Live holds no rights to the image."
@@comeraczy2483 cool 😎
@@comeraczy2483 I still credit them with the data. Just out of courtesy.
It’s only free week trial, not 30 days.
UBER for the night sky!
So one credit is 1$ that mean the session cost 200$?
Yeah seems to be very expensive unfortunately. That money would best be saved for new astro equipment :P
Hi M P,
With one-click observations, you can access images regularly obtained from our largest telescope for only $4 or $19 dollar a month! It is only if you want to rent exclusively a telescope that you'll need to pay with credits. For our largest 1-m telescope, prices might seem high, but if you consider the cost of the entire equipment of several hundreds of thousands of dollars the price you will pay is really small! Also, if you use the moon discounts (up to 75%) you will be able to submit advance requests for a few tens of credits.
So one credit is 1$ that means the session costs 200$?
1 credit is 1 dollar, but advanced request sessions depend on the total telescope utilization time and the telescope price list!

One-Click Observations and Pro Datasets are part of the monthly subscription, and you won't need credits to grab them.

Stay away from that site. Never again.
what happened?
I"m quite convinced you're the guy who voiced en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Full_Throttle_(1995_video_game) Sound of my childhood :)
