"Iggy, You call me Iggy"
"Look, I'm sorry I'm late Jim"
That gets me Every Time!
“You know the beauty of quitting is that now that I’ve quit, I can have one, cause I quit.”
-Tom Waits
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍
I told myself that the other day but i didn't have one cause I quit
I watch this over and over...this is very comforting and entertaining. Two hall of famers kicking back.
Like you, I've watched this so many times. This clip never disappoints!
%@@M.O.T.E.
no
@WayneCardoza I don't understand
@@Rbl7132 Nor do I.
The quiet beauty of passive aggression. Wonderful.
That’s just it
The thing is, neither of these guys are anything but passive/aggressive. They are straightforward, hard guys. They're making fun of themselves...er sum'fin'.
@@zephanefjones2013 Er... yep.
No they're not. That's douchie.
Gotta love it
Jim Jarmusch, what a genius director he is 💯 I loved ‘Coffee and Cigarettes’, it is awesome on every possible level and this part is my favorite one along with ‘Cousins?’ one :)
Everytime Iggy gets into something, Tom gets defensive and Iggy looks like a hurt puppy. Love it! Theatrics at their best
Yeah, I mean they capture humanity in a nuttshell
@@smileysatanson3404 Bahaha SO TRUE!
Two of my favorite artists. They both have made an impression on me with their music.
Its Not the musics first Impression. Its their souls...timeless
And their personalities to boot lol
Iggy’s goodbye is wonderful. Not wanting to commit to seeing Tom again but wanting to appreciate him and be polite. “I guess we’ll keep... zipping along and I’ll be... I’ll be thinking about you”.
The complete film was released in 2003, but this scene was originally filmed in 1992.
Wow... I seriously didn’t know that
Explains why they can still smoke inside in California.
Yeah, that was back when Tom was still a doctor.
The coffee they were drinking was an Ethiopian Yirgacheffe
. It was brewed in January of 1973, the same day the United States left Vietnam.
I was doing the math and something wasn't right. Thanks for clearing it up.
One of my fave scenes from one of my fave flicks of ALL time! Funny shit done with immaculate tongue in cheek delivery.
seen this movie over and over again never get bored, wish I could have a smoke next to those two Giants and have a cup of coffee . Thank you Tom Thank you Iggy
I love both men. Two distinct voices that will never be duplicated. I bet these two gorgeous men with unmatched vocals have no idea how how crisp, cool and beautiful they are.
I think they know.
Nice Cave on his way to take a third seat.
I think my journey is finally complete. Thanks Tom and Iggy.
This whole movie is so very beautiful, and a great caring portrait of our generation, and all those who represent a more humanist way, and what happened to us in this damn world, what we became,... what it is like to not change the world and then to have to live with that.
and outrageously avoided the stupid club.
This video is timeless, unbelievable coming together of visual composition, visual art, artists, and performance.
I quit writing bs in the youtube comments. Now that I quit I know that can write just one more.
😂
Legend. You deserve more likes.
touche!
I used to think whatever bs I type someone will read it and be in ave, now I only do it when I'm drunk.
Totally bro, I'm off for a smoke
It is possibly the most awkward conversation between 2 people, but it's hilariously perfect. The intro with Tom describing why he's late is genius. I would have believed him.
Coffee and Cigarettes, a great series of skits between several pairs of greats filmed with the coffee and cigarettes as a common thread for each ... it was a fantastic film!
Love this!!! Two awesome OG’s!!!
This is like watching two aliens, trying to pass as human, who don't know he other is an alien
What a perfect description.
The Awkward level is over 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm stealing that.
Trying a little too hard for this quinn... a little too hard
Perfect
Did anyone notice later in the scene how Iggy’s cigarette is still pretty much full size while Tom’s is smoked down and pretty much gone and then Iggy’s coffee at one point is gone and Tom’s is still pretty much full?
It's for the subtle effect of the first conversation about coffee and cigarettes. It's never just coffee and cigarettes, it's a cultural thing and mostly it's coffee and cigarettes for some, it's cigarettes and coffee for others.
I remember this when it first came out. So awesome. Love it. We didn’t even have a Taco Bell around these parts back then! Now we got 3 in 5 miles!. So funny plus awkward. And spot on about whatever the message is… Two legends smoke’n heaters and drinkin’ black tar.
i dug this...it was engaging. ..i didn't want it to end ;-) thanks for uploading.
IGGY POP,TOM WAITS..... could it get any more perfect?.... two of my favorite performers...... EXCELLENT!!!!
This is great on so many different levels.
I love it when people are able to illustrate the subtleties of the human experience.
I mean there's nothing like a night spent in awkward conversation with people in the same state of ambivalence about their interaction... imbibing copious amounts of coffee.
That was pretty much the whole business model that Denny's was based on.
But then there's the whole cigarette thing...
I guess you'd have to have used 'parking meters as walking sticks' and subsequently gotten to a place where you're 'out there saving lives' in order to understand the significance of the statement
'Well now that I've quit I can have them'
I could go for another hour about all of the little human-isms that are embedded in this.
It's so mediocre that it's excellent!
Thanks for this.
I gotta get the movie again..
I love the scene with Bill Murray and his serious delirium
I love Tom. Music and medicine.
I really Love this little Movie! can see it again and again! Iam a Smoker too and these Days people look at You if You have a big Problem 🥺
I absolutely love this!!!
Thanks for this in 240p
and to add insult to the injury its a blurry 240p :D
Watched this a shit ton when cigs and coffee were my breakfast everyday. Been smoke free for ten years now. Just coffee now. Lots of it.
You know once you quit you can have one...
Amazing scene
Both these gentlemen’s fathers were public school teachers: fun random fact.
Really? OO We need more of them, then...
@@xoen6 - It is interesting in that sometimes the most resourceful people come from the middle class.
Both Jim and Tom seem like they took modest backgrounds and found the magic in music and experience, both created bodies of work that stand the test of time and relate strongly to making something interesting come from the everyday aspects of American life.
@@owenwilberforce6138 You are right. But do not limit it to USA..world is huge...
Wow
I see they taught them well.
Fckn brilliant! 👏🔥❤️
The perfect blend of reality and fantasy. Gets me every time. I saw you once in California in 1999 in December at a quiet restaurant. It was all white. You were at the bar, and left once folks started noticing you. But I didn't really know you then, or now, but somehow I like you. Iggy too.
Tom use to go to a restaurant called Adel's in Santa Rosa, when it still had a smoking section.
I saw this film twenty years ago and have thought about it at least once a week ever since
"He's not on here either" is what makes this entire thing.
I know the music is just stereotypical Hawaiian music but I can't help but picture this entire exchange taking place in Bikini Bottom.
Came out at the release of spongebob.
- Always loved Tom but dayumm that's some real French cinema there. How did I miss that til now.
I think Tom Waits is possibly my favourite comedian
It’s like an awkward date. They like each other but don’t know how to say it.
Typical everyday guy problem. Lol
Reminds me at the the heart of 1990 at a college coffee house/diner before starbucks and all the that. chliin smoking , reflectin. etc.....Actually connecting. Just the image
It's a metaphorical mirror into all of us. It's also really funny. :)
I totally believed Tom when he said he delivered a baby this morning
It was true.
Brilliant.
Fond memories of seeing this when it first came out at one of Cleveland’s gritty art house cinemas.
I can watch that day by day and its always new!
). Feels like..yesterday)🌸
yes
If I could only live in this world
Heartbreaking.
"It was a medical morning"
Just another day, huh 🤔
Could also be "It was a medical mourning." With Tom you're never fully sure.
That last minute is some of the best stuff
What a great movie. Tom n Iggy had the best skit
Love Love Love ❤️
This rates high among the FUNNIEST and BEST THINGS i've ever seen. 🤩🥰😍👍🏾 it's bizarre mundane philosophical brilliant acting by 2 of my favorite musicians! i didn't want the video to end. But i'm glad it showed up in my suggestions
2 guys tryna out-rockstar each other. brilliant
This makes absolutely no sense, and yet I've watched it four times.
@George Peterman Gotta love Tom Waits
- Look, I can go either way, you know. I can call you Iggy or Jim, whatever makes you happy.
- Iggy! You call me Iggy!
- Sorry I'm late Jim...
they have some great chemistry in this short
I can actually smell this movie.
First time I saw Tom Waits was on the Mike Douglas show...he was smoking. hahaha...think that was before they stopped showing cigarette commercials on TV (glad he quit)! I love this clip...it's like two buds, each doin' a bit...like they're each doing a bit, but not together. hehe
"You trying to say you dont like my drummer" 🤣🤣🤣🤣😃
Brilliant
18 years later and I'm lapping this shit up
‘Wait a minute you’re a doctor?’ ……‘It was a medical morning’ 🤣🤣
Best scene of the film.
Tom...my brother from another mother in space and time. Thank you for following whatever the hell it was that got out "out there"...and lastly, most will never "get" Bill Hicks...but in that, it's very cool that in one way or another our consciousnesses resonated with the same guy. May this message find you clear, coherent and beautifully peaceful. Much LOVE from Wisconsin brother! 🌱
The way tom waits called iggy "jim" right after iggy said "you can call me iggy" was so alpha
Well, I'd say it was so...a different word that starts with a.
It was clever, not sure it was alpha (whatever ‘alpha’ is)
100% Excellent!!!
Love this movie, and some coffee and a chew of Copenhagen. I am not joking!
tom's approx 43 here, iggy 45.
these two, ..
2021, ...,.....you beautiful bastards back when We had real problems
I would love to see a collaboration album between Iggy Pop and Tom Waits
Obviously, son, you fail to realize that two people can respect each other and never do art together
@@technestudio I mean, of course they CAN choose never to collaborate, but if they did, it would be awesome!
You just did.
@@LIamaLlama554 Lol. Damn right, and it's a classic collaboration.
Cafes smoking allow should be re open and those who dislike it can stay at home or go to ihop, no problemo, they will be not missed
Both of these guys are freaking phenomenal and Jim jarmusch is their equal
Jarmusch is cool but not equal to iggy at all
@@lynnpehrson8826 I agree, haha 🌠
Tom quietly, almost sheepishly, leads the pack. Observant on another level. An American treasure.
They need to add Tom & Iggy to the jukebox!
Tom Waits is so defensive his mind must look like a castle with a moat around it.
Because We quit, I can have 1
It's strange...
but I've smoked after quitting for maybe a year, and it wasn't enjoyable, so I put it out after a minute.
For me, it was a test of seeing how I felt about it.
But I don't know if that was meant in this scene or it something else.
This feels very Tarantino-esqe in the dialogue.
omg i love this haha
"he's not on here either" lol good ending
HAHAHAHA! I miss Tom Waits in movies! I wish that he was still acting.
He's done 5 or 6 movies in the last ten years.
He was great in the ballad of Buster Scruggs
This is special. It makes me want a cigarette.
"What am I, a clown? I amuse you?"
Very nice
Everything is in the eyes. Iggy really expresses himself in his eyes. Now remind me, who's the pedal steel guitarist on the juke?
I didn't see anybody on the juke!
I remember these two legends acted in Bill Murray's zombie sketch The Dead Don't Die. lol
Yes that was great
Two American icons... having a cuppa
Genius
A glorious scene about everything and nothing
Two legends having coffee and cigarettes
Just so human and fucking beautiful
A slice of time and a strange encounter, what a combo: Ziggy and Tom, two guys chilling.
Classy brew
YEAH BOYS YOU ARE THE BEST
There's one gaping flaw with this scene.
The director never said "action".
In fact, the director hadn't even provided the script.
Best movie 🎥 of the year
Let's all remember just for a second that when Jim Morrison died Iggy Pop was the next in line
I vant to quit like these guys🤣
Watch Tom’s video “I don’t want to grow up” then come back and watch this! You will laugh your ass off!
@Walter B Free world!
The movie is called Coffee and cigarettes by Jim Jarmusch
