      They are grey market items, when you buy them from amazon they are shipped straight from china, usually marked as a "gift" to get around customs.

    I think that there are two ICs for the reason that they probably do different things. One is probably to interface with the IR sensor to send a colour number to the other IC, which is probably something like a WS2801 PWM chip, which would control the output signal to the LEDs themselves

    Thanks for your video. From the video I can tell the lamp is with poor quality: poor fixture, poor driver and can be sure the led chip also poor quality, that's why the same appearance led lamp but different prices. If everyone knows how to check led lamp quality like you showed, won't be so many poor quality led lamps in the market. Have to say you're really an expert and professional in led lighting.

    Think I can expect something better from something sold 10 watts sold for €45 with CE marks?

    I have one like this but its a standard 12v 10w chip in warm white,
    I soldered out and swapped in a white chip and the lamp is pulsing on and off now,
    do you have any ideas why it would pulse?

    Good video but for future reference it's very hard to hear you in your videos.
    And btw I run a light show and use a few of these and have never had an issue with them.

      @jamegumb7298 10 років тому

      You connect it to power. Electric will make it burn. You can use screws to attach it to a wall.

    Good to know. As you say, Global economy.
    As much as I support the global economic system, we should all be aware that these sort of problems can occur.

    If this 10w unit is any indication... I would be scared to death to put itor any other unit into service.. First, I would connect the earth ground, Second; shield IR sensor wire from being cut, Third; change out the power resistors to metal heat sinked types and mount, screw them down to the finned back cover, Fourth; I would also check the LED chip to ensure that the chip has heat sink compound . At that point it would be a lot safer and have longer life. Color me cautious but... There is a reason that electrical rules are setup by UL, CSA, CE, FM, etc.

      +tennismediadynamics - I agree, with China's propensity to disregard Patents, Intellectual Properties, etc. Even if a product arrived with any safety certification labels I would perform a complete tear-down to verify the unit. After all, anyone with a scanner and printer can print any safety certification sticker and illegally use it just to make the sale.

    Wow, that's one of the worst things i have ever seen from china...
    Where did you buy it? I wouldn't mind having a few of those metal casings for other more proper LED projects.
