That fan on stage at the beginning of Philadelphia freedom is me........ you certainly wouldn’t recognise me now, I’m 60 years old.. great moment 🎹
this is awesome
Lol...who was chasin u offstage?
Good grief, he laughed! He would’ve had a bloody hissy fit now and stormed off stage!!
I was chased off by bouncers... the original footage on tv they cut me out may be because of security but it has obviously been put back in and I stumbled across it purely by chance. I done it on many other occasions but can not find any footage 😄
I agree, today's Elton would have had a hissy fit and canceled the rest of the tour because of a disrespectful fan....,lol

He said he was retiring at the end of this show.....I just saw him live in Vegas 40 years later,,,,
Isn't that something??
He did, for a while. Good on him
I just want to thank you, for you have made me forget about the hunger and suffering I am going through in Venezuela. Love you Elton.
I will always remember this concert for 2 reasons. (1) It was on my birthday 3 November (2) It was the first concert I took my girlfriend to and 43 years later we will see him again in Sept 2020. He always gives 100% in all the 20 plus times I have seen him. Legend
I always find myself coming back to this concert. Elton's playing and singing is spot on!
I SO agree!!!❤
What a phenomenal encore! Bite Your Lip was one of many great Elton tunes which never became a hit.
Only man that can make me cry with music. I don’t know why something very emotive in Eltons early career that’s missing in today’s artists
Ah my favorite period......totally obscure songs and Elton in top form. To me, Westies and Blue Moves are such underrated albums because people put them up beside Yellow Brick Road. They are just different!!! Still beyond awesome. Thanks for sharing!!!
Warren Hawk Yeah, Westies has one of THE strongest A-sides in album history, and Blue Moves is track for track an absolute masterpiece! :D
I'm so glad there are fans of these records too. Westies STILL gets bad press if it's mentioned at all but it's a favorite of mine (mainly side 1 as you said). It was a transitional period and the new band was hot!!! I enjoy hearing the live Captain Fantastic with this band on the deluxe. Dee, Nigel and Davey (with Ray) have an amazing chemistry no doubt. Like I said, just different. True artists never go on doing the exact same thing.
Warren Hawk I love what all 3 of you wrote. Bullet in the gun and Feed Me, in my top EJ songs of all time. And Tonight, One horse town, crazy water... all excellent
Absolutely. I was 15 years old when Blue Moves came out. To this very day it is my favorite Elton album. I have them all. Diving Board is so good too.
Medley and Dan dare and street kids for me. Great record. Blue moves in my top 10 faves. What can u say bad about Tonight?
The 1977 concert was fantastic ...... especially when she sings with Kiki Dee “Don´t go breaking my heart”, Kiki Dee is pure magic and excellence… in the presentation of Stevie wonder she takes the initiative to help and collaborate with Elton John… ..it's pure heart
A magnificent voice that touches my heart. God blessed this man with such a remarkable talent.
amen...Amen...AMEN!💙🎩💙🎹💙🕶️💙🎤🐊
Amen!! Here I find myself listening to this excellent 1977 Elton John in London show once more, a year later...I just have to SMH, again & again, at this man's God-given talent.❤ So unbelievably enjoyable to listen to!!!🤩Thank you for the music, Elton!🌈
"my" Elton doesn't look happy there, glad he's in a happier phase of his life now, followed him since don't shoot me on casette tape 💕
Wow, Chris Thompson from Manfred Mann's Earth Band on backing vocals.
This show is so good it should be remastered and released.
I will try to ;-)
Any idea who the other backing singers are? I think that’s Cidny Bullen on the right.
I saw Elton the year before this in London's Earls Court 1976, He was superb that night too and he played Someone saved my life tonight
absolutely wonderful having Stevie Wonder on stage absolutely fantastic .the music ,the way they looked after Mr Stevie .oh wow Elton fantastic as always oh man I love your music.
So young here and so sweet. Love his voice! An amazing concert.
Doce ele sempre será!
My favorite song is Shine on throught, I'll never heard before. Love it❤
This was the first Elton john gig I went to...... Absolutely brilliant..
GOD, HE IS SO UTTERLY AWESOME!!
*YES HE IS!!!!* ❤❤❤
*Here l am watching this show after 45 years !! Novo.03.2022 ! SIR ELTON JOHN HAS BEEN THE SOUNDTRACK OF MY ENTIRE LIFE SINCE LONG, LONG TIME AGO AND I'LL LOVE HIM AND HIS MUSIC TIL'THE END OF TIMES. 🤗🤗💓💓🇧🇷🇧🇷🙏🙏*
This just may be the best concert Elton ever did that was actually filmed. His voice is near perfect, the band is rocking , great song selection ,and the audience (as well as the performer) is really into this EVENT . When Stevie Wonder appears , you have arguably the two biggest selling solo performers of the 70's sharing the piano! *Only "flaw" to this video is that for some unknown/criminal reason over 90% of "Meal Ticket" has been deleted. This is one of Elton's absolute hardest rocking numbers, and iv'e NEVER seen any actual video (from the 70's) of him performing this great number.......
yeah, but no Nigel or Dee
I think you might be right rob. He sounded excellent in 77. In fact I love his next album. Single man. Very underrated!
another huge flaw is the camera work just stayed on EJ & the percussionist (who I never liked)
would have been nice to see the band - and HEAR them in Funeral/Love Lies
No doubt you will have been delighted to see the recent BBC transmission of the entire gig, including Meal Ticket.
@@famachrisYeah, that's def 2 huge losses, but WoW! - I DO love me some RAY COOPER doing the PERCUSSION!!!❤❤❤😮🥰😍🤩😁🥁💙🥁💙🥁💙🥁💙
Truly amazing Elton John performance in his prime. Watching him perform in that era still sends chills up my spine. I think this is the best Elton John concert on UA-cam as far as material and performance.
I AGREE. Elton is in awesome voice
+ldchappell1 Agree 100% as he is in top form voice and piano wise. love hearing Better Off dead, Tonight, One Horse Town, Bite Your Lip (Get Up and Dance!), Shine On Through and all the classics. One great performance. Wish I was there.
+ldchappell1 This was aired on HBO as a ridiculous 60 minute special in 1977,.they cut out half the show...and they cut all the "rare" songs..such as Shine on Through and Where to Now St Peter..a true crime. No VHS or DVD exists of this show...and YES-the vocals are superb..as well as the set list.
Piggy-Pike HBO existed in 1977? That wasn't available where I lived in northern California. We had something in the late 70s called StarTV. You got a box that allowed you to pick up recent commercial free movies from 7 pm to 2 am. They cut out "Where To Now St. Peter? That IS a crime. That's one of the best songs in the concert.
+ldchappell1 I believe HBO began in mid 1975/... I didn't know the 2 hour version aired in England..but obv. it did based on thi video. I wish the would clean up the video/ restore it..and release it to Bluray/.DVD. ELton doesn't have much interest though in releasing "old" shows... this one needs a major upgrade... His voice is flying high... and YEs--this is the ONLY known video of Wher eto Now St Peter from the early years.... They need to restore ythre Dodger tadium 1975 show as well and release the whole show. (It is unknown whether the whole show still exists in uncut form)..If you want to see a truly rare clip---All the Young Girls Love Alice from 1980 Central Park was loaded to YT a few days ago based on my request..you can find it under "revolver records" poster. This is the VIDEO of ALice..not just yhe audio!!!
So many great songs, so many great albums. Thankyou Elton.
Absolutly the best perfoprmer . Just makes me cry with total joy and happiness
♡♡
Elton is wonderful even when it is just him and the piano. I have always admired him and I am so proud of this. A true artist!
Back when music performances were great!
One man one piano entertaining thousands of people....great talent, great music....thanks Elton!!!
while he does great with a band (like Rock of Westies), those who've seen him know he's excellent just entertaining with his piano
THANKS SO MUCH FOR THIS CONTRIBUTION...
Me encantaría haber existido en esa época de Elton, para ir a sus conciertos, buenísimo🥰y lindo además jajaj
Better off Dead, spectacular song, his vocals & piano!
This is the best I have heard him live since the early 70's.
Best version of "get up and dance" ever!
Your Song and Where To St. PETER are my favorite Elton John songs.
Back when Elton was cool. What a gorgeous voice he had. ❤
If you look at this video from a video producers perspective, the cinematics are very well done on this. The crosses, and the fades and the showing multiple camera angles at the same time (look at Funeral for a Friend to see what I mean) are just fantastic. Nothing less for Captain Fantastic, I suppose, haha. I wish that all the footage you see of all these modern concerts had something similar, but instead they opt for the operator tilting the camera, and hard cuts to different angles. Majoring in video production in college, I wanna bring these styles back, they are done so well and look so amazing.
Elton sounded and played great on this tour even he was going through addiction and burn out!
Great job Elton! 😁👍
Love when Elton sings the backup vocals in the first set. So perfect and raw. Your able to see his talent. Perfect. Who could do this today whitour auto tune/,pitch control ? Maybe Ga Ga,
Even in times with sorrow, Elton is great. I can still remember very well that time in 1977, but everything in our lives runs fast, after all this time Elton lives the best time in his life ! We can live this way too.
I love the roy rogers song
Underrated song for sure
Incredible song!
This is string of brilliant songs, amazing talent.
What a genius. Amazing concert.
I was there ....an amazing night.....and out came Stevie Wonder.....
EltoNico, thaks for sharing this historic jewel piece of art of mega talented ĺegend of universal music.
love love love elton john
One Horse Town is right up there with Funeral For a Friend / Love Lies Bleeding, great to play along too...Goosebumps and sore fingers!
TomBoy Media agreed! The changes it goes through.
Sore fingers in the piano and bass.
Concert légendaire... Où Elton, en pleine dépression, annonce son intention de se retirer de la scène... Heureusement, il n'est pas parti longtemps :-)
Oui...sa dernière tournée a durée 42 ans déjà!
Just found the programme and ticket from this concert.... £5.50.....those were the days
This is the day Elton announced his retirement from live show at 58:10 , we all know he changed his mind very soon thanks God but in that moment it was really at the top of his depression, we can see his face and hear his voice to realize....
So Amazing Thank you for letting me watch ! Elton my all time favorite!
I saw him when I was 12 for the very first time ! and he was amazing I also went to "Diamonds" and the Farewell so amazing ! few shows in Wisconsin and the UC so amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love you Elton 😍😍😍😍 You are the best 💗💎💜💖😘💓
1977, mas, esse VHS está impecável, relíquia hein, obrigado por postar/thanks for the upload!🌟👑👌
Perhaps more than any other singer songwriter Elton John has been the soundtrack of my life.
I remember driving with my mother in our old 1966 Chevrolet Impala to pick up my father from work. “Daniel” would come on the radio and we would sing and appreciate the melodies, the music and the words. It always brought a sense of sadness when he sung, “Do you still feel the pain of the scars that won’t heal? Your eyes have died, but you see more than I.” Even as a 7 or 8 year old kid I empathized with those “scars that wont heal.” Read more and listen freddythedaddy.com/2016/09/28/elton-john-soundtracks-from-my-life/
"EJ tem sido a trilha sonora da minha vida". Sua frase é originalmente densa e bela! Abraço, aqui do Brasil.
great band. Elton sounds awesome.
The best versions of Daniel come from this era, 1977 - 1979.
One Horse Town, one of his best, sounds great.
That's the one I came here to hear; it so rarely shows up in concert. One of my favorite little-known Elton songs.
It's the only proper live version of it. James Newton Howard playing his own eerie-ly atmospheric Fender Rhodes into..the 80s versions never got close to this
I was there that night too...great concert and the 70s was Eltons finest decade before he started with tiaras and tantrums !
What a treat!
What a talent. Thanks for sharing.
Elton performing dressed all in black in the 70's! Yeah! He certainly wasn't ok here. Só much so that around this time he announces his retirement!
Great to see this concert for the first time; anyways thank you is what I mean.
Elton il genio assoluto della musica ❤
It's always fun to see Davey Johnstone's hair curtain!
Where in knee world did all the years go?The time has sure gone by quickly.
This concert personally sends chills up my spine because this was his last concert before his voice lowered.
No it was after the 1987 Concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra he had throat surgery. You can hear the rasp in his voice during that show. His last album b4 surgery was the disastrous Leather Jackets. First album after was Reg Strikes Back.
no? go watch Central Park 1980, Live Aid or many others. this is nearly a decade before his surgery. This is still the 70's. honestly his voice only got better from here.
His voice got much better after this period
Fab! Thanks for posting!
Un concert extraordinaire devant des fans enthousiastes.
love elton john
Esplêndido! Meio século de sucesso!
I love you, Sir Elton John
A Hillsdale High School favorite..so the legend goes!
I never listened that much "Rock of the westies".But just a week ago had ago in my car and out comes another jewel: "Feed me".
It's almost impossible to create (let´s say) a 3-CD-set of his "not-so-famous-but-also-jewels" songs...but it's still good exercise for me to do it..
They're called "deep cuts" bro
Feed Me has always been a favorite since the first time I heard it in 1975...always wanted to make a film and use that song.
Rahoorkhuitable i
"Rock of the Westies" has been one of my favorite EJ LPs ever since it was released. It's his most rockin'. My favorite song on it is "Billy Bones and the White Bird" :-)
Dan Dare and I feel like a bullet are highlights among a really good record
僕に出来る最高の賞賛です。すばらしい
RAYYYYY COOOOOOPPPEERRRRRRR
Tonight has always been my favorite.-- hard one to sing now.
They are amazing
Thanks
nice
Only took 43 years between the announcement and his actual retirement
Stevie !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so amazing on "Bite Your Lip" !
Слушаю и наслаждаюсь! Поклон великому Элтону Джону
I think that Elton John is complimented very well with a band. I like him solo, but he's better with a band.
even better with an orchestra ....
At first sight, one could think that Stevie Wonder didn't know the song Bite Your Lip, but once he catches Elton's piano……… oh my god!
+Marc Mateos Stevie Wonder probably didn't know "Bite Your Lip (Get Up And Dance) It's the last song on the long double "Blue Moves" album which had bad reviews for being "overly produced" and "terribly excessive." Some critics called it the first Elton John album to show creativity fatigue.
Anyway. What I was saying that I found incredible how he solved it with the piano solo at the end of the song. He MUST know the song as long as he went on stage. ;)
+Marc Mateos Yes Stevie Wonder pretty well owned it once he started and at his level/ability he would have jammed it effortlessly. I was at that concert and it was clear from the start that no one had a clue about how to lead him to the piano, even less what he was supposed to be doing, him included. He was left alone for a few seconds and a bit to close to the edge of the stage for comfort.
+Marc Mateos Not really. Ive seen musicians get together and banging out music they never heard before. Some people use instruments like the rest of use use vocal chords. They make the instrument say what they want it to.
In my opinion his voice was so much better than today when it’s rather ragged.
Well he was a lot younger then! He still sounds great, just different.
no fucking shit Einstein
disagree....sounds tired hear...listen to paris 2016 soundboard...than we can talk
@@johnscialfa7391 In 2016, Elton John was 69 years old! In this concert here, in 1977, he is only 30. Now, c'mon-our voices ALL gradually change over the years, BUT who among us(even at age 30!?) could ONCE draw such a crowd
as Elton STILL does at age 75! No, his vocals are, even NOW, so much more than ragged, and they're not at all tired; they are just CHANGED from Elton's as a young man. He's simply an older person than he used to be, and naturally, his voice has matured. It still has a magical quality to it, and Elton performs with it masterfully.
@@pollyscookies9180 I'm saying he sounds better.. reread
レイ・クーパーは本当に良い仕事をします。
Anyone who's never heard background vocalist Stevie Lange sing, should check out Hot Summer Nights by Night. It was one of my favorite songs from the late 70's. Chris Thompson was co-lead vocalist in the group.
I’ve been trying to find out who she is, thanks. She’s absolutely stupendous here - really gives it her all.
WOW!
Kiki ! i'm so in Love !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where was I forty two years ago ! oh yeah not born :)
That's not Nigel Olsson on drums. Is it Roger Pope?
With special guests Kiki Dee and Stevie Wonder
Idol 💜💜🌍🌍🌍🌍🌍🌍
His voice was awesome in this performance as compared to the Russia Concert two years later. Seemed like in 1979 it lost that high pitched tone like in the previous years. Just an observation.......
Lots of singers voices change as they get older. If you listen to an Elvis song from the 1950s and then a song from the 1970s you would not even know it's the same person. Eltons voice was like that too. Then in the mid-80s after having surgery to remove polyps from his vocal cords, he lost the ability to sing the high falsetto that had been his signature in the 70s.
I wonder where the beginning of Meal Ticket is? It's only showing the end....too bad,too..
Magari una raccolta in meno e un bel quadruplo dal vivo che racchiuda i migliori concerti dal vivo tipo questo. A chi bisogna chiedere potremmo avviare una sottoscrizione. Ciao Andrea
elton had a cool look then, not so flamboyant.
ken Chamberlain: Yeah I agree. And so trim then!
His 1976-1979 looks were so refined, I honestly really like it. But at the same time, it's just out there enough where you can tell it's still Elton.
No matter what period/ Elton was on point with his look.
He is dressed so...normal
This is the real Elton's last concert. Whoever the other 2 guys were after 1977 who knows?
