One of the advantages of the original design is that it's completely tool-less to field strip to the point you can clean the barrel, BCG, and upper. As cool as I think this is (and I do), I cant get past the fact that if I need to get into the upper for some reason, I'd need a tool. I also think it would be cool to have a non-reciprocating handle on the left, instead. Makes bolt-handling easier than having to awkwardly cross over or under, like on an AK. Just my $0.02
Dear BCA, please please answer me this: is your 7.62 bolt carrier compatible with standard (7.62) bolt? I mean if in future, my bolt worn out, is it possible to install any other manufacturer's 7.62 bolt? I came from ak side, don't know too much bout 7.62ars, worried about compatibility.
Hey Yawei, it should be compatible with other manufactures' 7.62x39 bolts. We do have a lifetime warranty, however, and can replace the bolt for you if it needs it
It always amazes me how many people “ride the slide” or in this case “ride the bolt”. Their hands and fingers were pinched because of their own negligence, not because there was an issue with the design. Pull the charging handle to the rear, release. That’s it.
Why are you charging us for this upgrade? You as a company did not inform customers that you were selling us a faulty product up front, and when asked how to remedy this, simply said "use blue loctite"
They should have designed the charging hand to be a push button quick detach and that would have solved the cleaning issue and the having to use loctite issue.
We did not knowingly send out a faulty product. Not all our customers had issues with their handles coming loose; for those who did we suggested Loctite as a solution and started working on an improved design. We are trying to keep it as affordable as possible.
@@Bear_Creek_Arsenal Come on man don't try and tell me your company didn't test these side charging uppers in house finding out that after several rounds the handles were flying off and decided instead of taking a loss from all the inventory you created to sell them and deal with the slight inconvenience to customers while working on a "Gen 2" charging handle that you could then SELL to previous loyal customers for your original mistake.

I have come to adore my BCA side charging upper. But I wish to mate it with another favorite project for a new upper build, the Adams Arms piston kit. Have you at BCA thought about offering a gas key replacement strikeface like they used to? Sadly Adams has stopped producing the original conversion kits that utilize a stock AR bolt carrier and so strike faces are a thing of the past. Additional question: On the Gen 2 charging handles, are they perhaps compatible with the knurled charging knobs available for AK's? I never had any issues with the gen 1 coming loose but my new gen 2's updated style looks like it might indeed take such an upgrade.
I want to just get the BCG and upper (without barrel). I have extra parts so I want to build me an upper, just wondering if barrels, handguards from other companies would fit the upper. Also wondering if it has M4 feed ramps and if compatible with barrels from other brands.
Great question. They are implying that the screw is loosened not by vibration, but by rotation of the Gen-1 charging handle. If true, then the new non-rotating handle would solve that problem. Not sure that I buy the premise, but I suppose it could be accurate.
Can you make an enhanced extractor that does not break after 1000 rounds with a properly gassed rifle. Young manufacturing sells a bolt with an extractor that is cut in between a 223/556 and 7.62 and goes 5000 rounds or more.
The receiver itself is different for the gen-2 side chargers; it has to be milled wider to accommodate the wider base of the new handle. That's why we're working on an upgrade program instead of just selling the handle/bcg
Ahhh lol makes sense , I should have listened more in the video then drooling over the Gen 2 side charger lol . Do you guys have any idea when that plan would be out to the public that have Gen ones
Ordered one in 450 bushmaster. Honestly quality control needs to be done better. I ended up having to reassemble the thing. I cleaned the heck out of the barrel (it had rust), a loose barrel nut and muzzle device. Also the gas block is oversized and was touching the inside of the handguard. Gas block pin was also mushroomed/improperly installed. For $260 its serviceable, but I had to shake my head at it leaving the factory this way. Easy enough to fix some of these issues. Fortunately the rust I encountered was surface rust. Honestly I want these guys to succeed. I'm hoping this criticism helps them. I'm not looking to hurt them
I received (2) BCG's for my BCA Gen2 Side-Charging Upper Receiver. They both seem to be 'very poorly' staked! The punches from the side do not even come close to hitting the gas keys to keep them from coming loose. Should I call Omar on this?
I’m new to building guns, I just bought a gen 2 side charging upper from y’all! I was going to get a custom dust cover but it doesn’t have one on this upper. Do you know where I can get a custom/designed bolt hold open cover? I’m trying to make it American flag themed, my lower already has a flag engraved on it. Thanks!
I like it, but Handguard taper is not good. You can't change out comp without removing guard. I'd like to use KAK flash can from time to time but they're to heavy to have on all the time. Thx 4 V
K. Now offer the option to send in your bolt carrier, instead of making me remove my barrel, which is fucking impossible. I've baked it, frozen it, torched it, had it in a vice every time, to no avail. I'd rather not have to also replace my barrel nut, because I had to saw it off... Please, let me send in my carrier. Note: I have no problem voiding any sort of warranty, to open up the side of my upper. Still much easier than getting that ridiculously tight barrel off.
I so wish you would do a left side charge and right side discharge. This would help so much with brass control in compation with brass catch and still have control of chargeing.
Ergonomically much better but I’m trying to figure out why folks are riding the bolt closed with the charging handle to be getting bit by it. Nonetheless you guys are constantly responding to “issues” which is great. Keep up the great work
The Galil does the same thing, just in the AK platform. But a Quick Detach left side charging handle would be nice to make it easier to remove the bolt carrier for cleaning.
Hey Chris, we used to offer those (called ambidextrous side chargers). Right now due to high demand we've had to focus on manufacturing our most popular models, but eventually we'll get them back 👍
We originally wanted just a simple/easy fix for the handle, but our engineers realized that they needed to change the other components to make the design in the best way for our customers. We will have an upgrade program in place to make the upgrade as affordable as possible
Got my Bear Creek 5.56 upper, left side charger this weekend and I am super pleased. Not Gen 2, not sure if you are making those yet. Anyway doesn't seem to be many manufacturers that make a left side discharging AR with a side charger. For the money the quality looks very very good. Fits beautifully in an Aero Precision lower. However I was told by two of your customer service reps that your Wylde barrel won't fit on this upper. Seriously? just got my side charge exchange back from bear creek it is easy to do all went smoth just call them for the exchange package an send them $99.00 and they will take it from there all done and back in 12 days are less like the exchange very well thanks again bear creak
Thanks for the feedback!
Just my $0.02
Nice 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Just ordered mines this week, it's going on my first ar build. Can't wait to see it !!!
Right on Irvin, hope you like it!
Nice job guy’s! Can’t wait till the 350 legend gen2 upper comes out!
We do have a lifetime warranty, however, and can replace the bolt for you if it needs it
@@Bear_Creek_Arsenal thank you!!
Sighted my new side charger 223 Wylde yesterday, and it shot .6 inch groups at 100 yards. (with the right ammo...77 grain Sierra Match Kings.)
Awesome to hear! 🤙
It always amazes me how many people “ride the slide” or in this case “ride the bolt”. Their hands and fingers were pinched because of their own negligence, not because there was an issue with the design.
Pull the charging handle to the rear, release. That’s it.
Just fired my BCA (Gen 2) upper today. I love it! Thank you, guys!
Great to hear!
Waiting for the upgrade exchange
Would love to see a gen2 AR9 5ish in upper
@@jsinclair3908 a simple dab of thread locker fixed mine. It's not that big of a deal... All firearm manufacturers come out with gen 2, 3, 4, 5 etc. I'm okay with new and improved designs and will gladly purchase another!
@@Bear_Creek_Arsenal hints you had certain models, apparently a lot that were flawed and by your own comments started on a new design, why start a new design for something nothing is wrong with ? Because you ppl are liars and quite simply should have took care of anyone who had the issue at no cost instead of turning a 200$ budget upper into a 300$ now you’re getting into premium and with your quality control premium you are not
i don't like the handle the paint comes off
If you have any issues with your side charger, send an email to warranty@bearcreekarsenal.com and they will assist you
Engineers didn't work long hours designing this. Scott Roberson sent them a post with a design he came up with to make their current design better. He should have patented it before hand because now I doubt he will see fuck all from this. At least give the man a shout out and hook him up with some gear. If I were him I would just undercut bca by a few bucks on the product and shipping and sell the dog piss out of them.
sign me up for upgrading! love my gen 1 side charging upper, can’t wait to put the gen 2 handle on it!
No silly you got it all wrong this is proprietary the gen1 won’t work in gen 2 and vise versa to get this you send in your old upper pay 100 on your credit card and then once they have enough prepaid upgrade program participating ppl it will take about 10-14 days so you will be without your upper for a cpl months at best
I bought 2 Bear Creek side charging 10.3 " 300 BLK uppers-TERRIFIC guns! Well made.I had one problem w a bad firing pin, contacted Bear Creek, they sent me a new firing pin quickly, no charge-great guns, great customer service at Bear Creek!
DO NOT buy this product!!! They do NOT stand by the product and will NOT send repair parts. If you call CS, complain or leave a review asking for repair parts YOU WILL BE IGNORED.
We don't offer either of those options at this time
just ordered a 556 upper total 206 $ with coupon im excited
I want to just get the BCG and upper (without barrel). I have extra parts so I want to build me an upper, just wondering if barrels, handguards from other companies would fit the upper. Also wondering if it has M4 feed ramps and if compatible with barrels from other brands.
Ok. So hear me out. Same screw hole. Same screw basically. So what prevents the "new screw" from walking out?
Hey Wolfe, there's an added hole/dowel pin to prevent rotation of the screw. We will be showing off some torture testing soon
How does that dowel prevent the screw from turning though? If you just tighten it down like the old screw....
Young manufacturing sells a bolt with an extractor that is cut in between a 223/556 and 7.62 and goes 5000 rounds or more.
why wont you guys just make the BCG GEN 2 its self for the verities of calibers , instead of making us buy the whole upper ?
The receiver itself is different for the gen-2 side chargers; it has to be milled wider to accommodate the wider base of the new handle. That's why we're working on an upgrade program instead of just selling the handle/bcg
Ahhh lol makes sense , I should have listened more in the video then drooling over the Gen 2 side charger lol . Do you guys have any idea when that plan would be out to the public that have Gen ones
@@wesryan665 No eta yet. There's a lot to work out still (shipping, assembling, parts, etc.)
I'm not looking to hurt them
I'll take 3 please lol
Can we get a few options for replacing these charging handles? I’d like to have options. This curved handle isn’t very ergonomic.
I received (2) BCG's for my BCA Gen2 Side-Charging Upper Receiver. They both seem to be 'very poorly' staked! The punches from the side do not even come close to hitting the gas keys to keep them from coming loose. Should I call Omar on this?
I built as bear creek side charging upper in 300 blackout for my neighbor and he loves the thing!
Thanks!
How do I replace or buy the side charging BCG for Ar10? Thanks
I would love to upgrade to the Gen 2
I like it, but Handguard taper is not good. You can't change out comp without removing guard. I'd like to use KAK flash can from time to time but they're to heavy to have on all the time. Thx 4 V
I really like mine! What options do I have for a .22 BCG conversion for the range?
A little bit more like an M1 or M14 or Ruger Ranch Rifle... a much nicer charging mechanism.
I so wish you would do a left side charge and right side discharge. This would help so much with brass control in compation with brass catch and still have control of chargeing.
next video, turn your lamp completely off, then we can't see anything.
Yes, The upgrade I want definitely on my two uppers.
Can I take the flash hider off & put on a muzzle break ???? Please Reply
Compliments to your engineers! What is the eta on the Gen 2 making it into the left-hand 5.56?
Hey Sean, no official ETA yet. I'd give it a few months though
Ergonomically much better but I’m trying to figure out why folks are riding the bolt closed with the charging handle to be getting bit by it. Nonetheless you guys are constantly responding to “issues” which is great. Keep up the great work
Any chance of a side charging upper/bcg where the charging handle is separate and doesnt move?
Can I run a rear charge handle with the side charge handle. Reason is side charge would make up for lack of forward assist
Love my side charge from BCA
@Bearcreekarsenal can you make a review of the 16" mlok gen 2 556 rifle
I think you need a left side charger with right side eject. That’s what I’m watching for
The Galil does the same thing, just in the AK platform. But a Quick Detach left side charging handle would be nice to make it easier to remove the bolt carrier for cleaning.
Hey Chris, we used to offer those (called ambidextrous side chargers). Right now due to high demand we've had to focus on manufacturing our most popular models, but eventually we'll get them back 👍
My first build and I just order this one!
Awesome, enjoy!
Do u ship USPS to Guam a USA Territory in the pacific? FEDEX cost more. I like your products but was told BCA don't fedex firearms to Guam.
Hey Frank, we do ship to Guam! I believe shipping is the same price (free) as well
@@Bear_Creek_Arsenal Yes. But not firearms. Unless now you do. Great! I did not know.
@@frankanderson7896 I was told we even ship complete firearms 👍
@@Bear_Creek_Arsenal thank you! Three years ago I was told BCA does not ship to Guam.
Do I take the upper receiver to a gunsmith to put on my muzzle brake or can I do it myself
This IS NOT a T25 Torx, as stated in the BCA videos I've seen.
What is it?
Did you have to back out the threaded gas plug a bit to make it line up with the lower receiver? I noticed I had to and it doesn't fit snug
Im brand new to BCA, so is there an advantage to side charging?
Can’t wait for the upgrade program !
So if we want to upgrade we need a new upper receiver and bcg as well? Sounds like an expensive upgrade
We originally wanted just a simple/easy fix for the handle, but our engineers realized that they needed to change the other components to make the design in the best way for our customers. We will have an upgrade program in place to make the upgrade as affordable as possible
frankly unless it's around $100 I just can't foresee throwing more money at this when you can do it yourself if you're handy with your tools.
@@UnacceptableAttitude yeah 100$ and you old set so 300$
awesome just in time for getting started on a stripped lower I have laying around!
Trade in program offered for Gen 1 receivers and bolts to upgrade to gen 2? 😏
We will have an upgrade program; still working out the details. Stay tuned!
well this answers my question about gen 1s
I’m super excited to upgrade mines
That’s annoying. You don’t sell the handle by itself?
Got my Bear Creek 5.56 upper, left side charger this weekend and I am super pleased. Not Gen 2, not sure if you are making those yet. Anyway doesn't seem to be many manufacturers that make a left side discharging AR with a side charger. For the money the quality looks very very good. Fits beautifully in an Aero Precision lower. However I was told by two of your customer service reps that your Wylde barrel won't fit on this upper. Seriously? That's OK, I ordered a 20" carbon wrapped Proof Research barrel and will use it with a JARD set trigger. Should be capable of a sub 1/2 MOA in set mode with the right ammo.
How about compatability with a piston drive kit?
I brought this upper really don't like that grenade launcher cut on the barrel completely ruins it for me
So can i just order your gen2 and swap my gen1 w it???
Def will be adding one or few to my collection in the near future
Thank you. I like the new genrration much better.
Where can I get a spare side-charging bolt carrier? I like to keep spare parts around for all my guns.
Let’s say first I like your company and products. However I would like you guys to check out the side charger on a RIA VR80 shotgun.
The simplest, reliable and most cost effective. It handles the brutal recoil of a shotgun. I’m writing this not to criticize what you do, but to see what you think about it.
