It's pretty remarkable how close this is in both appearance and quality to the authentic FT product. Between this and the FT reissue, there's no reason not to own an iteration of this amazing figure.
Very tempted by this; I know Thomas is a great figure but in my mind I don’t think I can justify spending over £200 for a single standard-sized Masterpiece figure - this is a much more affordable option.
I'm glad they went with an obvious KO box, so there's no distrust about future resale. For display though this looks great, wish I hadn't spent so much on the original now! Definitely think I'll pick up their Cyclonus for alt mode. THEY NEED TO DO JABBER!!! (Blurr)
I hope to get this and I’m in the same boat as you with FT. I haven’t transformed my Thomas yet cause of the issues you pointed out. It would be nice to have one that I can actually transform without worrying about breaking something since the FT Thomas cost so much. I’ve only transformed my FT mini bots which were fun and easy to transform where as their other figures can be very fragile.
A couple of tips for train mode : The 3 connected top pieces, specifically the one he could not tab in: insert the small tab first, at an angle and then push/angle down and it should go into place. Then tab in the middle piece and the boilers top should sit flush. The front cow catcher - make sure you have those wing pieces pulled as far forward as possible. If they're not they'll pull the trains front apart.
That squeak is just very mild friction, nothing to worry about. If it bothers you use silicone oil on plastic joints, that will fix it. Do not use regular household DIY oils or WD40! They eat plastic!
Reeeeeeeeeally tempted with this... I get paid for part of my track supervision money at the start of next month and at slightly under half the price of the "official" it's pushed some other things I was looking at off the map. /edit - Got paid, bought train. Well this, the BMB LS-03F figure, and the two BeastBox Kirin and Chinese Dragon figures...
it's a very nice and solid figure. the transformation is somewhat complex and challenging, it is interesting though. overall the figure is great! you won't feel that much of difference between the KO and FT itself. AMAZING!
Great review. I always wonder before tackling a transformation like this, is there a Reviewer's warmup workout? Something to get the wrists and fingers flexing and ready to wrangle these parts into place? Honestly felt tired watching you push and pull it into place!
I'll gladly get this over the Fanstoys. I just can't spend over 200 dollars on a standard sized MP right now. I have my KO Acoustic Wave on the way as well and I'm very excited! It's just too bad he doesn't come with Rumble/Frenzy (whichever one is red, I prefer to call him Rumble). Hopefully the same company or another one makes him like an accessory pack or something
You didn't really show it so I have to ask... did they fix FT's "oopsie" on the chest panel hinges? The original used screws as sliders which caused more than one person to break the chest panels as the threads caught on the metal armatures (must have been enthusiastic as that's decent plastic and not much leverage). I replaced mine's screws with some cut down nails as a precaution but the ideal would have been screws with a long shank to act as a slider and only a small amount of thread at the bottom to keep it in place.
With Cyberverse and IDW comics scaling Astrotrain to be this massive brute who towers over everyone else, This seems like a good figure to demonstrate that scale with other generations figures.
I always prefered the idea of Astrotrain being a huge bot, considering he turns into two huge vehicles. He'd make a good adversary for Jetfire as well!
Just got notice that mine finally arrived in country, the figure looks great, shame though you weren't able to do a full lock on the parts in train mode, will be interesting if it's on all copies or if some will get luckier!
Ah yes the FFFAAANNNSSSTTTOOOYYYSSSS squeak 🤣 you gotta love it 👍,nice comparison video thanku. I have the Fanstoys version but other than the face sculpt if this was on a shelf u couldn't tell the difference at 1st glance
Found a fix from Chinese videos. Apparently the clearance issue is at the bottom of the hole where you put the screw in; the ring is too big and blocks the bar from moving freely. Shaved off the bottom part of the screw ring of the back cover to unblock it and the head will tilt up again just like the FT. Just did it myself and works like a charm.
Yeah I'm glad I got the real deal. I wouldn't be happy settling for that. It's like a really good Rolex KO. It looks really close but at the end of the day it's not real.
Sure but it's not even a legit Astrotrain to begin with, FT make high quality bootlegs. I have no moral or ethical qualms about buying a KO of a bootleg.
@@RarebitFiends FT makes 3p it’s not the same as KO. FT makes original figures with original designs and engineering based off a pre existing IP. KO IS JUST A STRAIGHT RIP OFF. lol please don’t make me explain this to you.

@@PSYCHOWORLD I am not FT, nor do I care about their survival as a company. I am a lifelong Transformers (the brand) fan, and I care about Takara-Tomy surviving as they created this IP. I would like to see Big Firebird stick around for this reason. But FT? amazing engineering. it's funny that hasbro can't accomplish such quality and creativeness like this.. it's funny that they're the "licensed" company to make tf toys and yet, they're not the best at it

Good video but I do not condone KO BEING MADE for smaller companies. TT can take the hit but even a larger 3p company like FT will be effected by KO. Buy it, it's fantastic. Transformed it and still perfect.
I got my RP-44 in the mail, ZERO complaints, it is a tremendous figure. If you want a MP Astrotrain in your collection, this KO is a worthy addition.

The box says fans toys in the corner so to the new person coming in, it will trick them

Agreed use pure cylicone oil
Or some lubricants used in the rubik cubes
I love Thomas, this may give me a chance to have more then one copy of the mold. All the modes look so good it would be nice to another. Thanks Ben.
Beautiful robot and vehicle modes…”nightmarish’ transformation. Thanks for the video 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
They should scale them double/tripple avoiding damage, Astrotrain definitely one of my favorites❤️

There's plenty of hand/finger stretches you can find online

Yep it would fit

So?
Bro did not come back

The answer is yes. I saw EMGO's review and saw the threads. This one has threads but it's smaller and a different screw. Much easier to move.
How has this held up after 2 years?
Nice!!.. where can I buy it?. (I not saw it at Show Z store) Thanks

Well first you'll have to wait for them to make ft blitzwing lol
I got mine the other day and the joints are extremely loose.
im hoping they do the toy colored versions, i really want the US one
I don't know if it's worth to wait for the MHZ ko or go for this one... I hope one of the 2 can make a toy reprint...

Nice! Waiting for the video. Thanks
Hi Ben would you say the quality is on the same level as the Fanstoys one? Cheers
In my opinion yes , if I didn’t know it was a knock off then I wouldn’t be able to tell
