- Join me at RIU Cabo Verde and RIU Funana in this holiday vlog in Cape Verde. We visit the island of Sal and the hotel is based near Santa Maria. Filmed in June 2022. We had a great time at the adults only RIU Cabo Verde but I made this video joint with RIU Funana. The Funana is very similar it is just not adults only. The entertainment and beach is shared between the two hotels and the food is pretty much the same.

Great Vlog, thank you. I was supposed to be going to Cape Verde in April 2020, but as we all know, Covid stopped that. A friend of mine just got back from the RIU Funana hotel last week and he has had 'the runs' and stomach pains for 4-5 days. I'm reluctant to book that hotel now. This one you stayed in looks great. I'm going to do some more research before I commit to booking. Thanks again for the Vlog. Very informative.

I know I have commented previously but thanks JevWD. Myself and the wife are frequents of Tenerife and wanted to try here, we've booked in for October in Funana. I've heard others from our city (Hull, noticed the top) have also been and are impressed with the range. The water park really does look to add something of a bonus. Great vlog, very informative and explained the restaurant options well, big help when getting there on day 1 of 7 for planning beyond the usual info. Thanks very much from a fellow tiger UTT :).

next time try to go to the cities Santa Maria and Espargos, the island is very secure for tourist, and you can realy feel how warming our people are.

Yeah they can get annoying. I try not to judge the hotel on that though as it is an island wide issue. Good to hear!

Great video and review that made my mind up to stay at the Riu Cabo Verde. we have now booked. its an adult hotel but we have to share with the family hotel at meal times is this correct? and I noticed you used your drone any problems at the airport Cape Verde side or at the hotel?
Hello, thank you. Glad to hear! Sorry if I d didn’t explain that well. Cabo Verde and Funana have separate dining. They only share evening entertainment and the beach. You can use drones there, just read up and follow the laws.

Hey man, great video. I'm looking to go to Cape Verde and this exact hotel in a few months. Please could you answer a few questions for me:
Does the hotel offer excursions?
Is it safe for tourists to wonder around outside the hotel alone?
Is it worth hiring a car or bike?
And finally, do I need to bring cash or would card be okay?
Hello, thank you. I can’t recall the hotel offering them but we booked our excursions through our travel agent. It is safe to wonder outside and better if your not alone. We walked to Santa Maria a couple of times. You may get hassled a bit by people trying to sell you stuff or to go in their shop. No different to anywhere else though. Sal is basically a dessert island. It’s not particularly big, if you wanted to hire a car it would only be needed for a short time to explore. A lot of places won’t except card, it’s better to have some cash too but be aware, their currency you can’t take it back out the country and it’s hard to get converted back to your currency. You can also use Euros. There is an ATM in reception that accepts visa.
How clean was this? Going in September and seem reviews about people getting sick from the food and water?
I did not see any major issues with hygiene. Cape Verde is a tropical place and I would say it is on par with any other tropical place like Caribbean or Mexico, usually it is environmental issues not the hotel and can be the guests fault if they are not being careful.
I've been to there as well. The thing they recommended is not to eat outside the hotel and you should also notice that the water from your bathroom is not drinkable like the one in the sinks and shower
Me and my wife were there in August and we both had picked up a sickness bug (both ends). The place is nice but I think the issue is cocktails are made with tap water and we was advised by a tui rep not to drink due to salt content. Also another issue is the water used to water the plants is treated sewage (again advised by a tui rep) and with the fly's is definitely a recipe for disaster. Fun fact whilst there our pool was closed once because they added too much chlorine and once because someone 💩 in the pool. And the funana pool was closed twice because of 💩. Just take care and definitely go to Santa Maria it's beautiful.

Hello, I recommend the RIU Cabo Verde, as it's adult only, so you will probably have a more romantic experience. The RIU Palace Santa Maria is also good too.

Hello! Yeah there is a beach bar, it is seen at 9:58 :) It is also included in the all-inclusive package.
Are the pools fresh water in the Funana plz?
Fresh water with chlorine I believe:)
Just come back from there. Yes it is fresh water but has a strong taste of chlorine which funny enough tastes like salt lol. But it’s not sea water.
Does this hotel offer non alcoholic beers? :)
Hey, I don’t remember seeing any non-alcoholic beer. There are lots of soft drinks on offer :)
