Hey mate, I've watched a few EPB related videos on youtube and I'd say this one in particular is the best no nonsense video for troubleshooting the fault from easy to hard. Cheers from Australia.
great work, I have just bought a 2006 L320 2.7 sport with auto parking brake that works sometimes. I am hoping I can adjust my shoes and cables from your video help. I will post a video on my channel when I work on the car.
Great video Steve! Good luck with that actuator, it's an absolute pig if the bolts are rusted, as you probably know! Britpart now do repair kits for them too... Part No. DA9223
Looking at how bad it is underneath, the bolts will definitely snap. I've done a few so I know how much of a pig it can be. I'm not even going to entertain a repair kit as the screws that hold the actuator together are as ripe as the backplates.
Ideal way of detailing it on reassembly mate. So much about must do this must do this, or watch a bloke tell you exactly how many clicks is free enough, and what bit to hit with a hammer and when.
One of the best videos I’ve seen on brakes. Very clear and great explanations. Especially cos ya explain why ya don’t do it the way Landrover say but your way , which works 👍👍👍👍👍
i have a similar problem, my epb was making the screeching noise but it does nothing at all, red flashing light on dash, landrover said my epb is knackered, but if i apply the epb whilst driving safely around 20mph and apply the epb it works and stops my car, any ideas
Land rover will say it's knackered because they wont repair it. Follow the rest of the vids in this series and I explain it all. Long story short, shoes are out of adjustment and the epb has come to the end of its travel. Adjust or replace shoes and reset the epb cables.
@pistonbroke no not looked at the actuator, land rover said the tried to reset it but can't because the emergency release cable has been pulled under the center console, which hasn't been touch at all
They may have pulled it. Did they give you a printout of any fault codes? What happens when you pull the switch? Any noises like it's even trying to work or just a red flashing light with epb fault on the message centre?
I don't get the connection between the tightness of the hub nut and the adjustment of the pad clearance. Doesn't matter though because your method worked anyway 😬.
it's not the tightness of the hub nut, it's the torque required to turn the disc. So the tighter the adjustment, the more torque that's required to turn the disc.
Righthand EPB cable stuck fully retracted. I tried entering EPB service mode to release cable. No luck. Any suggestions? Must I pull EPB module to get right side to extend? Not able to make cable reach break shoe lock notch. Also tried disconnecting EPB wire connector to reset. Thanks!
@@pistonbroke Gotcha. Thanks! Is there any indication that you've successfully entered EPB service mode? Can you enter EPB service mode if you're already getting the flashing red Park Break fault? Is it possible to clear flashing Park Break fault from dash even if you haven't completes EPB actuator repair?
Sometime the faults will clear and sometimes not, depends what the fault is. When you put it in service mode you should be able to hear the motor winding back. Depending what the fault is, you may not be able to put it in service mode.
@@pistonbroke I pulled EPB connector to try to trick the actuator. No luck. There must be a contact point in the actuator that signals jammed. Used IIDTool unjam function. No luck there.
Hi Steve. I've tried to adjust my parking brake. I have tried hard to get the disc out and it won't come off. though I've loosened the adjuster, hit with a hammer. I've left it like that and the parking brake makes a loud screeching noise and then on the dash I have a message of non operational handbrake. I've tried to pull the emmergency brake while driving and it's working. Could the module be damaged and still th emergency brake work ?
The actuator has over travelled because you've backed the adjustment off. Have a look at the rest of this series. It is possible to manually set the cables into a mounting position if you can't set the actuator into service mode.
That’s not a Torch mate. That’s a light. Jk. 😄. My lights are on. But the brake is not applied. (So no issue driving) Just happed today. Washed her yesterday?? That’s the only thing that’s. Changed. All has been great with my 2007 sport SC.
Hello mate, i have this issue only the park brake just says brake fault and does absolutely fuck all. Brake constantly stuck on? Is this a electronic fault do you think. Or is it that ridiculous box undernearhe that you had to cut off in video. Thanks
One of the best videos about EPB faults, including the routine to put EPB on service mode. Thanks a lot , greetings from Brazil.

C*nt mechanic tried to rip me off. Told me I need to replace the ABS. Thank you for stopping it from happening
Steve I can’t believe you got those handbrake springs on so easy - I swear it took me 2 hours to do mine - wounded 🙈🙈
Haha! I've done so many. There is a knack to it.

Having the same problem right now on my rrs sup. Gonna enjoy watching this 😬
I'm not going to enjoy doing it. The underside is as rusty as those back plates. All the bolts will snap, guaranteed!
from france : technicaly good video for ..... epb problem on my Range rover sport
Great video Steve. 👍👍
Cheers Alp. Always a pleasure to hear from you!
My rotor is not spinning freely how come pls respond my rotors r not coming off what did u do with the screwdriver

i have since replaced the shoes, disc and pads and adjusted them according to your video, but still nothing
Have you had the actuator apart and reset the cables? Have you scanned for fault codes?

I have same problem with same sound
Hi this is chino tanks for the very helpful video do you have some videos for the rare control arms
I've done them many times but never filmed it, sorry.
The main reason for this issue is the crap standard of engineering in England. My DB9 is also built shoddily.

@@pistonbroke Get it now - thanks
I would love to have a copy of the service manual you learned from
I didn't learn from a service manual. I'm an ex land rover master tech.

You may have to strip the actuator and manually wind the cable back, then screw in 5 turns.

Love to know where ya based as I might have an issue with a 2009 Range Rover soon lol
I'm in South Wales. Have you got an ability to predict the future? Mind you, with a land rover you know it'll go wrong at some point 🤣
Pleeeease hang that caliper up out of the way. It’s making me anxious with stretching the brake hose like that 🥴
They're all being replaced so it doesn't matter. Metal brake pipes are rotten and siezed in the flexis. It all needs to be replaced.
Like to know where ya based as I might need some help with a Range Rover 2009 lol
I'm ready to throw my range on a boat and leave it with y'all for 6 mos
My ranger rover sport 2009 🇦🇱
Excellent

The 2 live wires to the actuator have corroded at the soldered joint. Land rover will sell you an overlay kit to replace the wires.
or is it pissed n broke hehe
