What a truly wonderful voice! Such a talented performer. I had heard that Ms Routledge`s rendition was good, but this is my first time hearing it. Utterly phenomenal is the phrase I would use!
I first heard this Patricia Routledge rendition several years ago, had it in my favorites and then it was gone. I've spent years googling and searching to no avail. Thanks for bringing her beautiful version of Climb E'vry Mountain back into my life.
It’s absolutely the finest recording I’ve ever heard. Her voice is so rich and powerful. It’s a consolation to know many thousands were able to hear her live on stage for many years, just because there are few recordings of her serious singing doesn’t mean she didn’t have a fine career with it. And who can really compare this with Hyacinth Bucket anyway? They are both equally skilled works of genius.
It takes a really talented singer and gifted musician to successfully pull off such 'caterwauling'! She was always so close yet so far musically speaking. That takes talent and musicality! I believe she also did some Gilbert & Sullivan when she was younger (I remember seeing her in a clip from Ruddigore). Most people think that performing Gilbert & Sullivan is easy; they are wrong. It takes great musical talent and a good sense of timing to do it properly. She had both qualities in abundance!!
I must say I'm really not that surprised. Impressed, but not surprised. Even when she yells and answers the phone, she has such a great tone in her voice! Even as a kid, seeing her in kua, i said to myself "that lady can sing!", you can hear her vibrato and timbre, colour in her voice, and now after watching a couple of episodes I had to look it up. And here I am. Damn, was I right! Damn she can sing! I got goosebumps 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for uploading this wonderful piece sung by Dame Patricia :) Most people know her just as Hyacinth, but she's done so much more!!! Posted this on my facebook and so many people were shocked she could sing like this :) Pity she didn't sing more classic pieces...
Surely Patricia Routledge is a fantastic artist with a blessed voice... BUT the voice in this song is from Margery MacKay, chosen by Robert Wise in the film "The Sound of Music" to dub Peggy Wood as Mother Abess. The tone of voice is very different than that of Dame Patricia Routledge, that's very noticeable.
This isn't the film version. It definitely IS Patricia Routledge from this album: www.discogs.com/Anne-Rogers-And-Patricia-Routledge-The-Sound-Of-Music/release/1278403
This IS Patricia Routledge, and it is nothing like the one sung in the movie track. There is one huge difference aside from they are two different voices... and that is the very last note sung.
This is Patricia Routledge. I owned this record for many years, and as well as the amazing Miss Routledge, the cast included Anne Rogers as Maria, and Gordon Traynor as the Captain. If you search it out on eBay there are still a few vinyl copies out there, from its release in 1966.
It's unbelievable that one woman could have so many fantastic talents. Phenomenal actor and singer.
Wonderful singer and actress
What a wonderful voice!!! Such a talented lady 👏👏👏👏
I am so grateful this recording exists!
Oh my goodness, she really could sing. What a voice.
I love her. She’s absolutely fabulous ❤
Wonderful voice, truly stunning version of the song.
Wow...I never knew Hyacinth Bucket could sing like that!
Oops...It's "Bouquet".
I absolutely adore her! What a voice! such talent! ♥️♥️♥️

A truly amazing and talented lady. On stage, TV and screen, a versatile performer.

So glad she blessed us with Hyacinth Bucket. ♥️
Wow just Wow. Beautiful voice.
Gorgeous
Her voice is so hulking, yet she sings with so much lift and energy. Extraordinarily beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful...such inadequate words for this wonderful lady's magnificent voice.
Haha, she really underplayed her talent with Hyacinth's candlelight supper caterwauling!

Peggy Wood was overdubbed by Marni Nixon in the Sound of Music. She also overdubbed Natalie wood in West side story
