  • Today I'm building an attached pergola on my back patio! This build is great for all types of weather. It is super sturdy withstanding crazy storms and winds while also giving off a pretty good amount of shade for when you need a place to chill away from the sun. A list of all materials used for the build is below!

You describe and show how to build a pergola in approximately six minutes, we’ll done.
You didn’t talk about your life, where you grew up, the first time you smelled cedar or the philosophy of a pergola and for that I applaud you.

Thanks for this video and explaining every step. I've shown this to my brother(cause I want to set up the same pergola) which works in this field and mentioned the support for this isn't great in the long run and for our situation due to the weather the cement freezes which would cause the pad to move more than the house that might cause the base of your post to get loose or cause cracks in that section. If you live in an area where there's no freezing temperatures you'll be fine, if not keep a look out over time. Thanks again.

This might be the best pergola video I’ve seen - simple with great video documentation. TY!!!
And I love that u show how to deal with moisture & rot at the attachment points. Most don’t, which is completely nuts.
BUT… u didn’t show/explain if/what u did for the decorative skirts at the bottom of the posts. If they make contact with the ground, any moisture will likely wick form that into the post & eventually rot both.
    Pls lmk.

great job and great instruction. my question is , did yours have a slight slant at the top. Seeing that the joist hangers near the house were inside , yet at the end of the joist beams you notched them to only go down one inch ( near edge of patio) ... how does that equal a straight line? Im confused?

I wanted to know What the size of the notches were on the 2x6’s and also, how did you determine the height of the 2x6 that was mounted to the house? What was your measurement reference to allow the 2x6’s to rest against the house and at the same time have the notched end of the 2x6’s slide into the support 2x6’s and still be level all the way across?
