Sure miss these guys, takes me back to my college days. Cody Canada the lead singer has continued on playing music. Just not the same energy though. Thanks for the donation Jacob, and the reaction Don.
Grady Cross guitar Cody Canada vocals, Randy Ragsdale drums- Cross Canadian Ragweed. Jeremy Plato is the 4th member plays bass. Cody and Mike McClure of Great Divide are godfathers of Red Dirt and wrote this song together. Saw these guys a ton back in the day. Always high energy and fun shows. Great reaction.
That's sure a fun song, and I love how the crowd reacted! Great request Jacob, we don't have to be pure country all the time! Thanks Don for another terrific reaction!
I have gone to 2 Ragweed shows and have the T-shirts! They were a great live shows and true "Road Dogs" in the day. I just looked up and have 7 of their CD's right there on my go to shelf and still enjoy them!
Lol your face was priceless. Like what am I missing here? This is a song that really only works live. And they know it's corny, they didn't play it at most gigs. But it's fun to sing along to when you're drunk and Cody is just badass. This song and Boys From Oklahoma are mindless crowd favorites. I first heard this song in 2007 while I stopped at Billy Bobs to see Eric Church on my trek to Houston from Seattle after college. As a souvenir I bought a shirt and the CCR Live at Billy Bobs album. Played it on repeat the next morning hungover on the jump from Fort Worth to my cousins house north of Houston. Red dirt shows in a packed bar of 500 beats the hell out of any milquetoast Nashville puppet like Chesney or Mcgraw in front of 60,000. Though standing 5ft from Eric Church at the Tractor Tavern in Seattle in 2006 or Lee Brice at the Blindhorse in Greenville SC chilling with his parents and fiancé in 2007 at a half full club before he'd released his first full album will always be great memories.
@Jjp Love seeing artists before they're big. I saw Ashley McBryde here in Jersey a couple of years ago at the Stone Pony (indoor stage), and there were maybe 400 people. A week later she was nominated for the album of the year (she didn't win), but then she blew up after that. No more tiny places, but we were all within 30 feet of her the whole show. She is so likable it's ridiculous.
They're from Oklahoma, like me. I have seen them many times, even partied with them. They are awesome people. and this is true Red Dirt music. Will always be a fan!! Listen to Alabama!!!
Jacob you took me back to a time I learned a lesson. I was 12 years old and got hired by the carny’s to sell cold drinks in the grandstand show. We made 2 cents for every drink we sold. On my first trip into the grandstand a drunk stumbled into me and knocked me and my tray over. The carny wanted full price for each drink no excuses. I told him where to stick it and my dreams of pocket change were over that summer. #UTRCM
The caps are the crowd chants... I want a big red nose I want some floppy shoes I want a squirtin' flower squirt it on you Like all the bad clowns do (AIN'T FAIR, AIN'T FAIR) I want to juggle bowling pins in the sun I want to join the circus, the circus looks like fun I'll sit and work the gate or I can guess your weight I'll even sell the corn dogs I don't care As long as I am there (STATE FAIR, STATE FAIR) I'll hand out baseballs at the dunk tank I'll ride my funny car laughing all the way to the bank 'Cause I'm a carney man, I'm a carney man I'm a carney man, I'm a carney man, carney man, carney man The human cannonball I'll rise above it all Up higher than the trapeze I can fly Oh God I'm gonna die I just gotta get high I am a carney worker I make two bucks Every hour come to find out this job it fucking sucks 'Cause I'm a carney man, I'm a carney man I'm a carney man, I'm a carney man You need a corndog I can tell you need a corn dog, I can tell I'm a carney man
Ragweed was always grouped in with Texas Country artists. That's what they were called, and they played shows with Texas Country artists like Wade Bowen & West 84, Robert Earl Keen, and Roger Creager. However, if you heard them live, there was very little of a country sound to their music. I would describe it as southern rock more than country. Some people call Texas Country by the name "Red Dirt", but I never felt like that was a descriptive term and didn't cotton to it. Whatever Ragweed was, it was great music and fun live shows. Too bad they weren't more popular. Should've been a household name as good as their music and shows were. I guess it didn't sell well because it didn't fit country radio and didn't fit pop radio.

Texas and red dirt country is all about the live performances and the interaction with the fans

Cross Canadian ragweed’s old saying was “smells like country sounds like rock”
They were saying STATE FAIR STATE FAIR
So, SO do happy to seem some CcR in particular and “Texas Country” on UA-cam.
One of their old t-shirt slogans was " smells like country, tastes like rock n roll" lol gotta love that!
@Chris Dickens Now THAT is a perfect description of what they do---whoever thought of that should get an award!
I had one of those shirts.

A good follow up song to this is "Ringling Road" by William Clark Green
The caps are the crowd chants...
I want a big red nose I want some floppy shoes
I want a squirtin' flower squirt it on you
Like all the bad clowns do (AIN'T FAIR, AIN'T FAIR)
I want to juggle bowling pins in the sun
I want to join the circus, the circus looks like fun
I'll sit and work the gate or I can guess your weight
I'll even sell the corn dogs I don't care
As long as I am there (STATE FAIR, STATE FAIR)
I'll hand out baseballs at the dunk tank
I'll ride my funny car laughing all the way to the bank
'Cause I'm a carney man, I'm a carney man
I'm a carney man, I'm a carney man, carney man, carney man
The human cannonball I'll rise above it all
Up higher than the trapeze I can fly
Oh God I'm gonna die
I just gotta get high
I am a carney worker I make two bucks
Every hour come to find out this job it fucking sucks
'Cause I'm a carney man, I'm a carney man
I'm a carney man, I'm a carney man
You need a corndog
I can tell you need a corn dog, I can tell
I'm a carney man
