Have seen him several times in Asheville.... He's a hometown boy!!! What a talent. You know, when you're listening to him, that you're hearing "real talent"..... He is absolutely great...If you ever get a chance to hear him, DO IT!! If you don't, buy his albums. I have a dear friend of 30+ years that set me on to Malcolmbe. She passed away a month ago after 5+ years of fighting cancer. I loved her dearly, miss her madly, and will always think of her when I her this great singer/songwritter....
I went to high school with Malcolm. He always had the music in him and always seemed to be picking a guitar. It's his life and it shows. He was a great guy then.
When I first heard MH I swore it was a black guy playing the blues, Ha, Where did you guys go to HS together? Appreciate your time. Brian in Central New York.
Beautifully soulful. Thank you for the healing my broken heart recieves everytime I listen to one of Mr. Holcombe's songs. His beautifully soulful is a healing balm for this mama's broken heart. My wee boy died and our life was singing and making music...these songs take me back to those days of music and love. Thank u.
In his shows Malcolm explains this song as a tribute to his dog he had to put down. It is a true way to break the audiences heart and bring out a few tears. I'll make sure to come see Malcolm anytime he comes back around the Appalachian mountains, it is always such a unique and great show. With my best regards - Jonathon.
Thank you for this sweet video by this sweet man. I saw him in person, after all these years, last night in Asheville, NC, at The Altamont. So humbled by him. Great musician.
when i'm in the western part of Carolina from Ashville to Boone and all points between... especially when it's cold wintertime...makes me think of Malcolm's music...and 'tis a good feelin' to have...thanks always good sir!!
This is more straight ahead bluegrass-americana. I haven't see Malcolm in awhile - at the WDVX camperjams a few years back. He was something of an upper east Tennessee om Waits. I really like this tune.
DOWN IN THE WOODS LYRICS Way down in the woods Far from the highways Away from the moments Unoticed and gone Way down in the woods Touchin' moss so soft On the deadwood dyin' In time's fertile arms Chorus Thank God for the stars Each one in the heavens Thank God where you are And your travelin' steps Way down in the woods I will go for my rest Way down in the woods I will go Way down in the woods The dogwoods survive Round the blades of the briars And virgina pines Way down in the woods The ivy lays sleepin' Patiently waitin' For sunlight to find Chorus Way down in the woods The wind knows the way To carry the voices Sweet angels have made Way down in the woods Walkin' close to my heart Turn loose o' my tongue And thank God for the stars Chorus Chorus

We were fortunate to see Malcolm at the Boone (NC) Saloon a few times. Sadly, there were rarely more than 20 - 30 fans there.

DOWN IN THE WOODS LYRICS
Way down in the woods
Far from the highways
Away from the moments
Unoticed and gone
Way down in the woods
Touchin' moss so soft
On the deadwood dyin'
In time's fertile arms
Chorus
Thank God for the stars
Each one in the heavens
Thank God where you are
And your travelin' steps
Way down in the woods
I will go for my rest
Way down in the woods
I will go
Way down in the woods
The dogwoods survive
Round the blades of the briars
And virgina pines
Way down in the woods
The ivy lays sleepin'
Patiently waitin'
For sunlight to find
Chorus
Way down in the woods
The wind knows the way
To carry the voices
Sweet angels have made
Way down in the woods
Walkin' close to my heart
Turn loose o' my tongue
And thank God for the stars
Chorus
Chorus
Daniel De La Calle Beautiful
