Very powerful song. Lots of love and respect to my northern brothers who've lost jobs in factories in cities like Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Detroit and St. Louis. America's sweat and blood.

I'm Italian, and grew up in an industrial town in the north.
Back in the 90s, it was flourishing, Italy was the second economy of Europe.
Now, 90% of those industries closed down, and the remaining few are going to do the same the moment the debts become unbearable.
Town is now inhabited mostly by old people who like to sit down and remember the old days, same way as Slaid Cleaves is singing.
Young ones and relatively young ones like me flew away, in the search of something that isn't even clear what it is.
Even though we are distant in terms of geography, we are very similar in our recent history.
Middle class Americans and Middle class Italians.. Both victims of unregulated capitalism.
A big hug to you all!

I'm from Flint Michigan, I've lived every word of what he's singing. I've watched my home crumble and decay to the point where it's almost unrecognizable. Ternstedt, Buick City, Fisher body, Chevy in the hole, Delco, Delphi.. we built Chevelles, we built Camaros, we built Park Avenue Ultras and a whole host of legendary vehicles. Now our Legacy is poison water, murder, sex trafficking, slavery, political scandal and no sign of hope..

Slaid I can't tell you how pleased that this Canadian gal found your music.
    What a gem you are.
And having the opportunity to meet you in Buffalo at the Sportsmen Tavern when your wife said "go on and see him, he's outside...you're first" and there you were standing there against the wall, by yourself, after a simply amazing show....and I got to tell you how much I Love your music!
And a CD signed and pictures.
You are an amazing artist who's songs speak right to the heart.
    Thanks Slaid.

As a guitarist-I can't understand why anyone could care less about what year or make of guitar was used to create this masterpiece. Could of been done with an early '70's Crestwood, for all I care, and for all that matters. Great song. Thank you.

Just saw his awesome show in Buffalo yesterday.
Brutal drive . Took us almost 5 hours from North of Barrie.
Long weekend craziness on the road.
When we got there we were told he was on his 3rd song.
Hubby went upstairs to the bar but I stayed standing by the sound man.
I wasn't coming all that way to see him on a screen.
What a show. What a huge talent.
And at the end of the show his wife Karen sent me out to see him first.
There he was just standing at the front of the Sportsmen Tavern.
Had a great chat with him about his powerful song Breakfast in Hell and how impressed a lot of us Canadians are that he wrote such a gem.
    He was lovely.
    Picture taken.
    CD signed.
He is an incredible musician who is also a very intelligent songwriter. His real gift is knowing how to touch peoples hearts.
Thank you for sharing your gift Slaid. Love your music.
