Lovely set up mate, something similar to what I'm building at the moment.
Thanks mate
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS POND! YOU SET IT UP YOURSELF? WOULD LOVE TO PUT ONE IN MY YARD. TOO OLD TO DO IT MYSELF! HAVE SOME RIVER MONSTERS I COULD PUT IN IT. PEACOCK BASS, BOWFIN, ABBA KNIFE FISH. AWESOME JOB MATE!👍🐠🐟
Thanks matey. Yes i done most of it myself 👍🏻

Hey mate, real cool pond with the two windows! Nice work 👍
Thanks matey, appreciate it 👍🏻
nice koi and pond
Thanks matey 👍🏻
amazing pond and fishes
Thanks Arif 👍🏻
Hi great video thank you for sharing it.
Really like the deatils of your filter housing. I have the exact same thermotec airsource heat pump as you I didnt relise they can be boxed in the way you have done it, that's a great idea.
Well done Andy
Thanks Andy 👍🏻
Yeah as long as you keep enough space round it for airflow it seems to work great 👍🏻
Hi craig,
Further to my post about your pond set up a few weeks ago and the thermotec heater you and I both use, I fitted the wifi module to the heater this week and it works a treat. You can download the aquatemp app onto your mobile and basically follow the set up instructions in the box that the wifi module comes in. I bought my heat pump and wifi module from heat pumps for pools on line. David there is very helpful and knowledgable. Just thought I'd let you know mate saves going outside checking pond temp and heater working on cold winter nights 👍
Andy Murton thanks mate, good to know 👍🏻

Nice really nice 👍🏼
Thanks Paul 👍🏻
nice set up
Thanks matey 👍🏻
Absolutely fantastic, what kind if money is in a setup like this?
Thanks mate.
Not the most expensive but not cheap
Nice set up
Thanks!
Brilliant thanks 👍
Love your setup super clear water if you live in England how do you keep your fish in winter? Do you have any heater?
Hi, thanks for the kind comments. Yes i have a heater. I heat to 14 degrees C and cover the pond.
Fantastic
Cheers matey 👍🏻👍🏻
Nice setup 👌👌👌
You have two view panels how are they fixed? Directly to the concrete or did you attached it to a stainless steel frame and siliconed it ?
Thanks mate.
If you check out my build video you will see how ive used insulation board to create the frame. Allow for at least 50mm all the way round. Then once fibreglassed the window sits on this frame and you fix it into position using CT1 sealant. Mega stuff, fish safe and doesnt budge once fitted.
Great job mate beautiful pond, what size window you use?
Thanks Timmy
The window is 1450mm x 700mm x 25mm. Heatsoaked, laminated, toughened glass with polished edges from tuffx. The window on the other side is 1000mm x 700mm x 25mm
Nice pond, one day I will get mine build
Thanks matey
Excellent video.
What kh do you run the pond at ? Do you find a pivot point when running low kh ?
What’s your kh out of the tap ?
Thanks!
KH the the tap is barely evident (1 or 2 max)
Great set up fella lovely fish. I like the goromo especially. 👍🏻 what's the dimensions?
Cheers buddy.
Outside dimensions are 2.7m x 3.7m. Its circa 2500g
@@madaboutkoi How deep is it. I'm just over 2000 gallon but yours looks massive compared to mine. Hence why I asked bud. Looks great 👍🏻
Almost 6ft mate 👍🏻
Keep your videos coming buddy, enjoy watching them 👍🏻
@@madaboutkoi I wish you had commented only stumbled onto video by accident and subbed straight away so likewise fella keep it up. Gonna rinse your channel tonight on big screen 👍🏻
Hi mate, bit of a basic question, but do you include the water in the filters as well when working out pond size litre/gallons ??
Hi mate
Yes you should. That way any treatments you add will be measured out correctly
Hi. Excellent setup. You seem to have thought about nearly everything! I notice that you are using a Thermotec Invertor AIr Source Heat Pump. I am thinking about getting one and I would like your comments on how you've found yours. Also where did you buy it from as you said your local koi dealer and did you fit it yourself? Thanks.
Hi again Peter,
I bought it from Queni koi. Fantastic koi dealer and best of all if you sign up to their website and create an account you get 5% off. Thermotec is a brilliant unit. Super efficient and very quiet.
Hi again (sorry I don't know your first name!) @@madaboutkoi Thanks for the information. Did you fit it yourself? Easy to do?
Its Craig. Yes i fitted it myself and very simple to do. Feel free to pop over mine to have a look anytime.
@@madaboutkoi Hi Craig. I'd love to come and see your pond some time. Just let me know your address. You can contact me on pfinkill@gmail.com. Thanks.
Awesome job mate 👍 where you get cladding from pls?
Thanks mate
Its from marshals, its called drystack. So simple to fit and comes with everything you need. Just remember to order corner pieces for corners if you decide to get some.
Sorry if this is a daft question but Does your trickle out, also work as an overflow?
Yes that correct. Same thing really
@@madaboutkoi Thank you. Like the idea how you have done yours, so now will go with the same concept. Thank you
Hi Craig...been thinking about having a pond for a while and yours is pretty much the exact same thing as I've been planning except maybe a blade at one end instead of the shower on the side (now quite like the look of the shower tho). Been messed around by a couple of pond builders and thinking about having a go and doing it myself, even if it takes 18 months of plodding through in my spare time. Did you do the complete build yourself? I'm not in the building trade but could drag a few mates in who are if really required. Do you think it's something a novice could achieve?.....I've watched hours & hours of UA-cam about every part of the process. Would be really interested in your thoughts (sorry for the really long comment).
Hi mate
I did the following......
Dug the hole
Laid the sub base
Glued the drain pipework
Laid the concrete base
Fitted the insulation board
Fitted the glass window
All pipework/filters/pumps
Ran electric
Only thing i got people in for was
Blockwork - wanted it strong and level so got a bricky mate in. Critical job to ensure it can cope with water pressure
Fibreglass - not worth the hassle. Get the professionals in. I would highly recommend EZPONDs. Give Allan Gavin a shout, tell him i pointed you in his direction.
So all in all yes its absolutely possible to do it yourself. Its all about planning your build correctly.
Have you watched my build video?
Yes mate.... I thought it was excellent. I was looking to see how many returns you had in the walls... is it one high up on the shower side and one low down in the 2nd window end?
Neil Finch as you look at the large window theres one on the right and one on the left mate. Both at the same height about 2 thirds up from the bottom.
Thanks Craig.... I think that's the bit I kind of didn't get when looking at lots of pond builds because I assumed you are trying to make the water flow in a circle all in the same direction around the pond by pushing it from one return to the flow of the next (if you know what I mean), but I guess as long as you are creating movement the natural pull and aeration of the bottom drain will do the rest.
How many koi do you have ? I have a very similar setup, 10 weeks into maturity and nitrite is lingering at 0.25.....
How often dose the air come on in the moving bed ?
Current 19 koi although i would rather get down to 15. Moving bed is on all the time
Great pond. What's it cost roughly to do
Will you make a separate video on filtration
gorgeous asagi
Its one of my favourites too! Breeder was Wada
@@madaboutkoi wada?
Japanese koi breeder who produced this fish is called Wada koi farm
@@madaboutkoi I haven't heard of him before thanks. Jimmy $25 asagi is not nearly as nice as yours..
Hi what did you use for the little posts on your jump guard, thanks.
Hi
Its 80mm pvc bar with cnc machined slots
@@madaboutkoi sorry were you get it from
I’m thinking of getting a Koy pond. How much did this pond cost to build (minus the fish). Also what’s the maintenance like? Does it constantly pump clean water in?
Hi Paul,
Rough cost estimates below...
Fibreglass £900
Windows £400
Concrete £300
Qk35 drum filter £2500
Custom bio £400
Bio chamber media £200
Shower £350
Shower media £200
Tiles £500
Pond heater £1950
Pipework £350
The drum filter is basically an automatic cleaner that removes all the waste out of the pond. The bio chamber and shower then remove all the waste you cant see in the water (ammonia, nitrite)
I do have fresh water running into the pond. This refreshes the pond water and is also required for the drum filter. The filter uses the pond water (filtered by the drum) to clean the stainless steel mesh thats inside the drum and this goes to waste. If it didnt top up the pond water level would drop over time. Taking into account of both points and my current stocking levels this equates to 20-30% per week in the summer season. Around 10% in winter.
What size is your pump on the shower ? What speed do you use it at ?
Shower is running at 20000lph using a dm vario 20000 pond pump
What size is the return pump back to the pond ? Dose the return come back via the shower or on a separate return?
@@madaboutkoi
How long did it take for the k1 and shower to mature ? Do you get any nitrite issues ?
I blimin can’t seem to get rid of nitrite at 0.25mg at the moment.
2 returns from drum
1. Drum, bio bed, pump (8000lph), heater, UV, pond
2. Drum, pump (20000), shower, pond
Plastic media takes ages to mature. Also if youre not heated at this time of year good bacteria growth will be non-existant
Hi mate what the volume of air going to your bottom drain lph or lom thank you
Hard to say mate as theres 2 pumps on the system. They power the drain, bio chamber and the garage grow on bio chamber.
@@madaboutkoi do you think 3600 will be enough for a bottom drain
What type of pump? If its a decent make then yes matey
Hello how do you go about sizing display window and glass thickness?
Hi
I done some research on the internet. My window is 1450mmx750mmx25mm. Anything bigger than that needs to be 31mm thick ideally
Thank you for response and info
How much do the think the whole thing cost you(not including the fish obviously)
Its in the comments somewhere matey
how much for a full setup like that including filters et.. what about electricity bills per month
Setup costs are in the comments matey. Electricity pay £160 per month (including house and i also have the grow on garage heated)
@@madaboutkoi where
Please mention in description as well
Hello, what gauge is the tank glass?
Hi Kamel
Its 25mm thick
@@madaboutkoi Thanks a lot How big is the pond?
2500 gallons
Total cost with out fish???
Its in the comments mate somewhere
What's the depth of the pond
Its almost 6ft matey
My pond is gonna be roughly the same size. Did you get the water bill??
Yeah, not to bad. Change 30% a week in summer and 10% a week during the winter. Sure the water monthly payment is around £80
@@madaboutkoi that ain't bad mines been built needs fibreglass and window. Got an oase premium compact drum. Not sure what uv to get or where its gonna go before or after the filter I have 2 2 inch inlets and spindrifter bottom drain
That's good how many peps in your house ? 4 in ours so it would cost us the same
If gravity fed then it will be
DRUM - BIO - pump - UV- pond
If pump fed
Pump - UV - drum - bio - pond
Defo go gravity fed though, hopefully thats the drum type youve selected.
Yes 4 people in our house water wise
@@madaboutkoi yes gravity managed get a new 1 delivered for 1300
