Excellent Video / Tutorial. Made changing my toilet flush mechanism a real simple task - old out and new one installed and correctly flushing within 45 minutes. Could not have done it without your help and video. And explained in such easy to understand language. Thank you so much.

You are a lifesaver! I live in Indonesia and have been trying to get the commode open for months now. I gave up and googled it... Nothing matched and then I thought of UA-cam. Took my 20 mins!!! After waiting over a year! Thank you kind Sir!

This is the clearest tutorial I have seen yet. Thanks for getting straight to the point. I found it particularly helpful that you explained how to determine whether it is the inlet valve (ballcock) or the flush valve. That really helped. I have liked and subscribed.

Very useful. The fault is often the washer which can be replaced without throwing out the main plastic unit.

Thanks a stack for the clear explanation. The instruction sheet doesn't show you how to remove the main part - so easy with those two clips. Something I found out in a forum - the main valve (a flat grey rubber ring, may leak because it develops small water-filled blisters on the surface. If you want a quick fix you can just pop these with a sharp blade (don't go right through the ring though!), refit and the slow leak's cured.

    * This is a very clear explanation ~ thankyou. The cistern I need to work on is however under a fixed worktop which is only 3cm above the top of the cistern. I won't be able to see what I'm doing ~ I hesitate to attempt to get the flushing mechanism out by reaching in, squeezing the two clips, turning the whole thing horizontal, withdrawing it and then trying to reverse the whole process with a new mechanism.
    * I don't even know whether there will be enough of a gap under the worktop to withdraw the mechanism, even if it's horizontal , despite the the space created by removing the cover.
    * Do you know whether it is easy, in particular, to slot a new mechanism into place without being able to see what's happening?
    * If I'm only successful in unclipping the old mechanism and then either a) can't get it out (and can't then clip it back) or b) can get it out but can't clip the new mechanism in, it's going to be a matter of getting a plumber in or maybe having a quiet word with the builder whose plumber fitted it like this.

Great video, I have noises that come after either buttons are used for flushing just as the water is about to be cut off. Sounds like hammering noise, I believe that this could be an air lock, how do I remedy this please?

Just what I needed. Wasn't sure how to pull valve out.
My one, when you flush, the system keeps on flushing and you have to press the top buttons again, for it to stop. Not all the time but about 1 in 20 flushes .
Any ideas on what's going on???

What if the problem is with the green and white buttons getting stuck. As a result when the buttons on top get pressed, they do not get back to position and water keeps flowing. Does the bottom unit then need replacement?

The doesn't work for me because my button does not have a screw and the rods do not come away with the small and large flush buttons. I can remove the buttons but am left with the casing which I cannot remove and still cannot take the lid off the cistern

Throwing the unit away is in most cases stupid. The fault usually lies with the white rubber seal at the bottom of the unit thats in his hand. I'd rather pay £3.00 for a new seal before shelling out nearly £30 for a new unit!
