A nice tour of the inside or a garage door opener with little to no diagnosis; more commentary like "these fail, these fail more often, these rarely fail, these never fail" with a few tips thrown in. What would have been more useful is how the unit behaves when each fails, the symptoms. Having provided that would have been much more helpful because at the end of watching this I could see someone feeling they need to replace everything you suggest commonly fails because they wouldn't know how to recognize what the cause of the failure is or how to troubleshoot it.
I eould like to see where your limit switch for the up and down adjustments on the side is positioned at because I'd like to see if mine is out of adjustment somehow. For some reason you didn't want to talk about the up and down adjustments.
My daughter's garage door has started to open 2-3 seconds after it reaches full travel to the closed position. It might take several attempts before the door remains closed. Any suggestions?
Andrew, Using both the remote and the "push button" will make the opener hum for like 2-3 seconds. I do all the test with the door disengaged so there is no load issue. All the whiite gears and other appeared in good shape. I have changed them so I know they looks okay. Put a good cap (taken from the my other opener (both are Sear 1/2 HP same model). does not fix the issue and it stills give me the hum. Any idea ? Is it my motor ? Thanks.
Thanks for your video on Garage Door opener that is very informative. I got Lift Master Model 1056R.The reset button does not give green green light on motor , even by resetting several times ??.
Bought a new garage door opener that had a car remote, a outdoor opener and a small keychain remote. Plus my car has remote. When I set two of them it knocks the other two off?
how hard is it to replace the power board. i put my multi meter in the slots for the sensors and got nothing. plus my inside wall switch doesnt work.. thanks for the video
Hello, does it matter what the numbers say on the capacitor? does it make a difference? I'm trying to replace mine but can find the exact #'s on the newer capacitors. Please help and thanks for the vid!
can you answer this question for me please , i thought my cap was bad but it seems to be ok my gears striped out though and when i opened the unit i saw the limiter switch at 1:18 had corroded contacts and i had been having a problem with th edoor not staying up or down no matter how i adjusted it so i thought the contacts being dirty could be causing the problem so i sanded them and then started checking continuity and was surprised to find that i get continuity between the common terminal grey wire and the yellow wire and the other wire that goes to the other contact in limiter switch also has continuity with the grey common wire even when the contacts in the switch are not touching , the unit is unplugged though and the cap is out of it, but this seems really odd to me the switch contacts are open and i get continuity between the wires that go to the switch i am mind of baffled because this seems to make the switch useless so my question is could this mean my logic board or power board are bad? when the gears stripped out i saw some smoke and it smelled bad so i though it was the cap but now i think it was just the plastic gears melting that caused the some and bad smell ,when the gears stripped the motors just turned and turned and nothing was moving the motor never stops turning and i also notice that the light bulb in the opener used to come on when the beam was broken, now when i trip the beam the indicator light on the sensor blinks but it does not switch on the overhead light so i am not sure what is going on
I have two of same garage door opener "Sears 1/2 hp. I tried everything but can not program the remote on one of them. Both remotes work on one garage door fine. I like to program one on each. Can you help?
+Mohammad Chaudhry did you get it figured out yet? What color are the learn buttons on the openers? Purple, Red, Yellow or green? They must be the same color, check the year on both also, If they don't have the same learn button then the remote wont program unless it's a max remote.
Okay I asked for a Ryobi garage door opener how to fix the sensor in it and all I get is Craftsman and everything else not to show me how to fix a Ryobi so why even use this stupid app
You are my hero!!!!!
I have a 20 year old Liftmaster that had the exact same issue on the same relay.

It's very easy. You can usually find the board on eBay too. Good luck!

when the gears stripped out i saw some smoke and it smelled bad so i though it was the cap but now i think it was just the plastic gears melting that caused the some and bad smell ,when the gears stripped the motors just turned and turned and nothing was moving the motor never stops turning and i also notice that the light bulb in the opener used to come on when the beam was broken, now when i trip the beam the indicator light on the sensor blinks but it does not switch on the overhead light so i am not sure what is going on
yea you need to know the MFd microfarad rating of the cap just look on ebay for garage door opener capacitor it should be 53-64 MFD
