Acrylic Portrait Painting Technique

- Hello Creators!
Today I'm in experimentation mode. This is an attempt to make acrylics look more like oils. I'm combining some abstract techniques with a bit of realism to create this portrait using acrylic inks, high flow acrylics, heavy body acrylics and Golden Open acrylics.
I enjoyed this process a lot because it was loose and i could really play. I needed a break from all the detailed paintings that I have been working on lately.
I hope you enjoy the video and leave any questions in the comments! - Навчання та стиль
I love watching you paint
It was absolutely fascinating watching her face develop! Probably because of the way you layer it felt like I was seeing her come to life before you made it obvious…. Lol! I swear I’m sober 😉
This painting is Stunning & loving the bird ! Who cares what kind, it’s beautiful!!!!😍
i am in disbelief over how absolutely beautiful this is and i loved how you explained your thought process. very helpful and captivating, thank you!
Really love the cloudy/atmospheric background style. Also what a task to adjust the eye like that, great work. That’s demonstrative of the dedication and patience required for true craftsmanship of any form of art
Thank you! You know when something doesn't look right. ❤
Amazing!!!!! ❤❤❤
Another interesting and beautiful painting. I love to watch as you develop your canvas. You make it look easy but I know that's always the case. ❤ Thank you...and keep them coming 🎉
There is always so much to learn from your videos. I watch them several times and take notes. I love how you go from a blank canvas to a masterpiece layer by layer. This was a beautiful painting. Would love to see more paintings like this but with collage. Those are my very favorites, when you do collage, texture, mixed media abstract realism portraits. I LOVE them ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love starting my day off watching your videos. So beautiful educational and relaxing.❤
This is amazing; you’re amazing. Thanks for sharing your talent! ❤
Thank you so much Karen!❤
Fabulous. I love to watch the process. I want to be able to paint like you. I am 65 and just starting. I think I will achieve something if I watch how to do it. Thank you 💖
Winging it is a great joke😂✌🏼 Love your work TY 🌷

I love this loose feel. She reminds me of 1970s, Kate Jackson in Charlie's Angel's
We’ll done🙌🏻
Gorgeous painting Lydia, thanks for sharing the process with us.
Absolutely beautiful ❤
magnifique 😍 toujours un plaisir de voir vos vidéos 😊
Hey there! What a nice surprise having this video pop up😊 interesting to see you paint a portrait without a sketch… Amazing! Your imagination took flight while you were winging the painting of the bird. Sorry bad pun. The feathers are cool. Love it!
Thank you mom!❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing your process! I can't wait to try some of your techniques
underated!
You are SO good at explaining what you do and the result it absolutely gorgeous. LOVE it. I do have one little thing and that is regarding your microphone, It sounds like you are blowing into it at the same time you speak. Sorry for saying that.
it's beautiful.
love your paintings and humour. I would love to see all process in slow motion, each color and brush stroke. Thanks for your generosity. You are very talented and a truly inspiration 👍
Thank you! ❤❤❤
My lord, this was mind-blowing. Thank you
That “winging it” joke made me laugh and then l subscribed at that very moment … so I’m really expecting a lot more puns and “dad” jokes 😂😂😂🎉❤ this painting is EXQUISITE 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Thank you so much!!! I've got lots of puns and "dad" jokes. 😂❤
Amazing art work Lydia and I love your natural way of explaining and sense of humour!
Love it! Even a subtle spontaneous realism shift there too.
Love watching you paint, such a beautiful process. Just starting the mastery program as I find your work really inspiring. X
WOW!!!! Beautiful!!
Your style is so amazing! This is the second video that I've watched and I'm learning so much about layering. Thanks for sharing 🙏
Great painting as always, I appreciate all the explanations you provide. My dream is to be able to do a loose soft abstract background as you have done , i even have most of the supplies, now i need the courage to try , and the focal point as well. 😅
You really are an amazing artist.
Thank you so much!❤❤❤
Beautiful! I love your abstract work
Absolutely amazing!
Love seeing the process. The bird is wonderful!
Beautiful ❤

Your work and voice are super relaxing. I really need that. Thank you for helping us 😘
Thank you🤗❤
Love everything about this. So glad I stumbled across your channel 🤍🩶🖤
Thank you!!!😊❤
Again. Awesome job.
Thank you.
Gorgeous painting
Interesting layout. And the eyes are just fine - goodness, many humans in this dimension (off the canvas) have multiple body parts completely askew. Wabi-sabi….accept imperfection.
Beautiful!
Always fun! Always beautiful!
Thank you Charlotte!😊
Love the piece, face, bird, textures, feathers, colours ... Everything, it turned a beautiful cohesive portrait 👌🏻🎨💥❤ Love your process😉
Thank you Catherine!!!❤
Great video! Thank you for sharing! 😊
Wow! Beautiful! ❤I learn so much from you Lydia thank you so much! You are soooo gifted! ❤🎉I just luuuuuv your videos!
Thank you Christina!!!❤❤❤
She is beautiful ……….. love the way you layered the paint for skin tones, and the bird looked so easy to do and lovely…… and the background is amazing. So love ❤ what you do…….building up to giving it a try. 🥴🥴😁
Thank you Judith!❤❤❤
Nice! I like the abstract/realism combo. I wish you would have shown adjusting the eye so that it was level with the other eye. I have a tendency to discover 'wonkiness' far into the painting and have to fumble around with adjustments 😑
😍😍😍😍👍👍👍👍👍
I wanna paint like you when i grow up!
Outstanding painting! ❤
Thank you!!!❤❤❤
I love it it looks beautiful ❤❤❤
Thank you!!!❤
Love the freestyle approach to this piece!
BD
Thank you!!!❤
Damn there is nothing you do that I don’t love ❤️, this is awesome 😎
Thank you!!!❤
This is amazing 🪄
Again, beautiful portrait. You make it look so effortless, love watching your process. If you ever want to do a tutorial on using inks, I would love to see that as well. I want to learn how to use inks and play with them, but am unsure where to start. Thanks again for an awesome video and sharing your talents with us! 😍🤩😍
Thank you!!! I Love your UA-cam handle!!! I'll keep the inks in mind. I've been using them a lot this week.❤😁
@@lydiabroderick867 Haha! Thank you! :) Yes, well definitely share! Can't wait to see what you do next :)
Fantastic 👏🏻👏🏻 you give me so much inspiration , now i only must find de courage to ad some abstract to a portrait , im always afraid to ruin it 🙈🙈😅👍🏻
Love love love the video but definitely giving you a huge thumbs up off of the pure fact “birds of a feather… you know we stick together” as I’m dying laughing you’re like “idk why I said that *awkward laugh* lol love it!!!
I want to learn how to paint like this sooo bad 😭😍 I love it!!!
Thank you!!!❤❤❤🤗
You are so inspiring. And thank you for the explanations why you are using certain acrylics at what stage. I’m learning so much from just watching you. This portrait is stunning. First time commenting on UA-cam content by the way 😊
Thank you so much!!! ❤😊🙏
So very interesting to watch the art. The real time helps me see you creating shapes. Faster speeds make it look impossible. I drew my teenage face with pencil using a mirror for reference. ‘Twas then I noticed my eyes were not symmetrical. I read that stars generally have very symmetrical faces. That pleases the rest of us. Though you probably wouldn’t notice ears are often not symmetrical. You learn that from the technician who fits your glasses to your face. I find this very funny.
Could you do a video on how to do flowers (to add to a picture).
💞💞💞💞☺️
Love the painting and your sense of humor 😊 do you have a brand of brush that you like better than others?
I love Princeton synthetic brushes and Trekell.😊
Awesome! Do you prep your canvases before hand with anything?
Thank you! It depends. For this painting I didn't, but I will sometimes prep the canvas with modeling paste for some texture. 😊
Thank you! I’ve just about watched all your videos in one sitting.😁 I absolutely love your paintings and your style!👍
Can you do a show on how to create skin tones with the Open acrylic? I’m having trouble making my girl that I’m painting look less flat or cartoony 😳💞
I can do that! ❤😊
This is absolutely stunning. Thank you for sharing. What kind of brushes do you use?
Thank you! I use all kinds of brushes, but my favorite brands are Trekell, Princeton and ZenArt miniature brushes for details.
Thank you! I just got back from Michael’s and I’m going to practice skin tones with the colors you suggested in one of your videos. These are all super helpful. Thank you!
When you were sketching in with paint at first, which color open acrylics did you use? Thank you 😊
I noticed before you used the golden open acrylics you used like a white for the bridge of the nose, muzzle of the mouth, part of the cheek is that transparent white acrylic or the high flow acrylics? It’s right after you put in the transparent shadows
It's just thinned out white acrylic paint.😊
@@lydiabroderick867 ohhh ok! Thank you for the info! 😃
I'm developing an obsession with covids rn, especially ravens, and it's tying in with your videos. Serendipity. Thanks, Lydia! ❤
can you teach step by step more detail which color you use how draw.
Thanks😊
I love your paitings! You paint beautiful women, but have you done men aswell? I know most artist love to paint women, but my drawings (just practice, and not good ad all, but with fun) always seam to be male, mostly. And I really would love to see you doing a male portrait. 😁
I have painted some men. I really want to paint my son, but he won't let me😂 I will do a portrait of a man soon!😊
please show the reference pic also

Every female artist puts large face image on fight hand side!
Interesting observation. Funnily enough... That's the first one I've ever done on the right. The majority of mine are left or center.🤔😊
