Would love for you to make a video for those of us without a table saw or planer. Nothing is dead simple when you don't have a shop full of "basic" woodworking tools.
I agree. So many DIY videos on UA-cam should start with: Step 1: Have a spacious garage or work area that can fit a table saw Step 2: Get a table saw delivered and assembled in the work area Some of us live in a small apartment on the 5th floor, and don't have the money for a private workshop with a saw table. Hence the DIY search for easy frames we can build at home...
I try to look at in a positive way, even if the creator tells us that it's not intended for amateurs like us. It's another challenge to overcome, and it feels good when we do it. But I feel you. I have a very low budget. No way I can afford a $2,000.00 jointer. Gotta wonder why he makes a video to save a few bucks on a frame, and also says he's targeting woodworkers who can afford expensive, professional specialty tools and who can also easily afford high quality pre-made frames. Doesn't make sense to me. But I still appreciate his knowledge and tips, and I'll find a way to do it well without a big shop and high-end tools worth many thousands of dollars.
Your a cool person. Also when listening to the podcast with Bob and Jimmy, you're always thoughtful and respectful. More people like you would make a better world. Thumbs up for you sir.
Hey what’s sup everyone 👋. I’m a woodworker with my own business and I just found you not too long ago and your videos are really crazy cool on how you break steps down and show us more than most people do. I’m learning a couple new things I never knew so thank you ! Definitely subscribing
@@Tikorous imagine a woodworker needing to follow a "dead simple" walkthrough. Target audience is everything. I'm a diy-er not a woodworker and would be unable to follow this "dead simple" but not so simple walkthrough. I have a circular saw, I have a jigsaw, I have a hand plane. I have a mitre jig I can use a handsaw in. I do not have a table saw, I do not have a jointer, I do not have whatever a "points gun" is. I haven't got the room or inclination to make special jigs ahead of time for something advertised as "dead simple" nor do I have any clue wtf is meant by a "spline jig". If you have to make special jigs for a project, that's not dead simple. That's actually a complex project as it requires you to do sub-projects just to complete the parent project.
@@Tikorous I'm not sure Callan. Maybe you're just a special snowflake that needs that extra bit of attention. Me I'm fine with generic tutorials, just rather they were truthful with their descriptions, save me wasting my time and what do you know 30 seconds after making my comment to you originally I found a video that did exactly what it says on the tin.
I have overthought this process for years. I can't believe how easy you make this look. I know enough about woodworking to know I can do what you showed here. Thank you. Now I'm going to find your video on building that sled.
I saw those rules years ago in art school and had forgotten about them. It's the perfect time to introduce my Animation students to that wisdom. Thanks for the reminder and inspiration. And of course, the frame and the process are awesome...
Picture frame sled is set up and my immediate thought is I need to make that-and before the thought is processed, the video link is right there. My man!
Ya the sled thing is honestly the main key here cus if we all just had one of those...we could use anything to cut, dremel, circular saw, tabke saw, jig saw, sissors, or wtv material we wanted to use for a frame practically...it's just getting those stinken angles down precisely perfect. So ya im backn up here and going to attempt building that sled thinga ma bob. Thank you, thi im noe starting a different project as i always end up doing once i look up how to make anything diy on UA-cam,lol. i like your OBEY poster btw
Sorry I realized that 2 minutes after I said that. My bad. I loved your videos and my wife is wanting me to make that sled now! Thank you for a great set of videos!
If you wanted the frame to be really heavy duty, for a mirror or something heavier like that, would you make any changes to how you reinforced it? More robust staples? Screws?
I just failed at making a picture frame in my shop tonight. Then I came inside to find a video or two to help me out and watched this one...wow! Thank you so much! Not only for the instructions but for the inspiring "rules," especially #4. I had fun even though I was failing tonight (multiple times, in multiple ways) because it was indeed an experiment. Tomorrow I will succeed.
Your ability to incorporate your creative path, past projects, your music and editing abilities, old and new artists, and non preachy advice is taking your biz to the next level. gladly would i sift through the bullshit purveyed on youtube in exchange for this. thanks and cheers from KY!
Love the tutorials! I'm trying to make the jig and want to make sure i'm understanding the correct use. It looks like you set the stop at 21-3/4 when you cut the frame. Is there a mark on the jig i'm missing as you said 22. (3:09 ish on the video)

I have no idea why I never made the connection before on your picture frame jig video that the rabbet goes over the ruler therefore eliminating the personally frustrating issue of determining that appropriate measurement when making frames. Thank you for another lightbulb moment David. Great video brother
Hello my friend @makesomething which is the model of the yellow jointer machine, cause the link from amazon is not available anymore, if you can tell me the model I'll search on the web, thanks a lot for sharing these videos with us, your job is amazing bro, keep it up, best regards from Lisbon - Portugal
I made one recently. I made a mistake, as the wood stops were too forward on the sliding tray. It makes the jig unbalanced ans a bit dangerous to use. I have to do it again. Hope you can use my experience and avoid making the same mistake.
