You have a talent to explain things really well. It's obvious you are a seasoned drone pilot but you do not lose sight of the fact that many viewers(like me😂), don't have the experience. Lovely bright light in Bali demonstrates the use of filters perfectly❤️
Thank you very much! Yeah I'm always aware that the people who are going to be watching these videos will have a wide range of levels of knowledge coming into it. So I try to make sure I explain things thoroughly but without any fluff so it's easier to digest. I'm glad your finding that to be the case. Yeah the bright days in Bali are a great example for the use of filters.
Just ordered the Avata 2 and also ND filters 4Pack from Freewell. Will be my first FPV drone. Really excited about learning to fly manually. Been watching your videos lately. Keep up the good work!
Hey! That's really exciting, You're going to love learning how to fly FPV and manual mode too! Manual is a steep learning curve but every rewarding one as you can see from the footage. Thanks for the kind words and welcome to the community! 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT It's not too bad if you get on a simulator. I took my first manual flight on Friday, with no idea what I was doing. Crashed after 1 second but luckily from only about 1m high and onto grass. I then realised I had no idea what I was doing and spent 12 hours over the weekend using 'FPV Skydive' simulator and I went out again today with the Avata 2 and felt in good control flying around a football field for 15 mins. Looking forward to improving further. It feels like one of those addictive hobbies where you'll never master it but you've just got to keep improving.
@mhhenson1 That's a perfect example of why simulators are so valuable. Get the bad crashes out of the way in the sim and then once you've got the basics and muscle memory locked in. Flying for real is much easier! Yep, there's always something new to learn and things to improve! Keep up the good work!
Another great vid Justin. 😎 Perfect timing because I ordered the Freewell 4 pack plus and extra ND4 filter last night. Received the fpv radio controller 3 today, and should receive the filters tomorrow just in time for my first ever flight. Thanks again mate, your vids have already helped me a lot and are inspiring.
Thanks mate! Haha that's perfect timing hey. You'll be well equipped to make the most out of them! Have you flown manual before? That's really good to hear! I want to show people what's possible whilst giving them all the info to do it themselves! 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Absolutely perfect timing. 👏 I have never flown a drone before. LoL Tomorrow or the following day will be my maiden flight. Manual will have to wait for a little while I think. You certainly are showing me whats possible with the very helpful info you are sharing mate. Much appreciated. 🙏
Juston, this is such an easy and fantastic video to follow and understand. Thank you for taking the time to make it. It helped me out a lot. I hope Freewell sees this, I just made a purchase of all their filters off of Amazon based on the strength of this video you created and the link you provided. I was looking for which filters to get, there are a lot of options out there but you pointed me convincingly in the right direction. Thanks again. Keep making these videos.Looking forward to getting them.
You're very welcome! I try to make these things as easy to understand as possible, so I'm glad you got it figured out. I've got plenty more helpful videos to come! How are you finding the Avata 2?
If any of you are here because you intend on using your footage for CGI, and specifically, tracking - you should go to manual camera mode and get some lenses for your drone. The auto mode is impossible to track because of the almost undetectable changes in color and light that it performs. Learned from experience. wish you the best
Thanks for your opinion and info on how to use nd filters , I’m in Western Australia and it’s always so frigging bright , I’m in an rc flying club and it’s my ambition to film our models flying, just using motion controller at the moment and had some good success but the rc controller will give me the speed in need but your videos have been very helpful
I’m 300km from Perth , a town called Merredin , we have a small club there and I’ve always been interested in photography as well , love chasing planes 🤣🤣
@@todthyne1656 Brilliant, I have been flying RC fixed wing since I was 10, I loved building my own aircraft and do miss not having ant planes. But I cant carry one around with this lifestyle haha. I'd love to do some plane chasing too. I spent the last 2 years in Aus but didn't get to the west coast. hopefully I will return in a couple of years and go explore the west!
Awesome video! Informative and to the point. Really some good knowledge. You should make a video of quick color correction for beginners with no experience. Keep the videos coming!
Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found it useful! Yeah I love having nice motion blur in my footage. It just looks so much better 😃
That's awesome. You're going to love it! I went out flying my freestyle fpv quad again today, and part of me was missing the Avata 2. It's really growing on me, and I like how it flies. ND filters and motion blur is just 🤌
Thank you! It depends really. I don't really use the PL filter. The UV is nice for when no nd is needed as it offeres an extra layer of protection fo the camera lens. I use the 8,16 nd 32 most often, I haven't used the 64 yet.
@@JustinBainbridgeYT That make sense. SO PL filter is not that useful - We can not use ND + PL filter together to get rid of glare + get nice motion blur together right?
@smokehead5318 You're correct, it's not like on Cinematic drones where you can get polarised ND filters. Mostly because fpv shots are so much more dynamic, the polarisation would be changing all the time. So a standard ND is normally fine.
Great review of the Freewell, I ended ordering K&F Concept they seem be a reputable brand. I hope they do the job for what cinematic videos I am looking to capture!
Probably can't go wrong with any of the big brands. Just wondering if it is worth a consideration/fair to say that it's less likely to get finger prints on the filter with K&F filters given it has the protruding handles just like the original DJI design compared to the little latch on FREEWELL ones? Even the other popular STARTRC model has a big ring around the filter. All of them appear to have very similar materials and built quality/price.
I wasn’t going to get ND filters for my AVATA 2, because I thought that I’m actually wanting the best possible video. But then I saw another video where a person had an accident with his avatar 2 and had a slight chip on the lens. So I ended up getting the freewell 6 pack of ND filters. I’ll probably just use either the polarised lens or that other one that is fairly light in colour, not so much for the motion blur, but as added protection for the lens.
Yep another good point! Something that I forgot to mention is I generally always fly with the UV filter on for protection if I'm not using an ND. That extra layer of glass can save the lens. It's saved my O3 lens before on my 5 inch. Much easier to replace a $10 filter than a full camera. 😃
Thank you for making such an informative and professional video. DJI recommends using the Lightcut app. However, I prefer to upload footage to my PC. Could you suggest a beginner friendly alternative that's Windows 11 compatible? Also, I'm wondering if a transitional filter is available. I'm capturing footage of friends riding ATVs in bright, open areas and dark, forested trails. I'd like to be able to take continuous footage without breaks to change the filter. Thanks again
You're very welcome! It's not so much the operating system of the computer, it's more down to the performance of the Processor and Graphics card. You should be able to run these softwares on most machines, these are also free applications. Adobe Rush, Capcut. There aren't and transitional filters. For this situation what you need to do is input the camera settings as shown and then change the ISO to Auto and set the limit at somewhere high enough to cover the darker areas, normally 800 will be enough. This will let the drone change the image brightness using the ISO depending on the environment whilst also maintaining the other settings to keep mtion blur in the footage. Hope this helps 😃
ND8 (3 stops): This filter is suitable for lightly cloudy days or during morning and evening hours when the light is less intense. Ideal for days with varying light conditions. ND16 (4 stops): This filter is perfect for sunny days, but not extremely bright. For example, on a clear day with some light cloud cover. It reduces more light than the ND8, helping to better manage motion blur. ND32 (5 stops): This filter is useful for very bright sunny days when there are few or no clouds. It’s good to have on hand for summer days with strong sunlight. ND64 (6 stops): This filter is intended for extremely bright light, such as in tropical locations with intense sun. It is likely to be used the least often in milder lighting conditions.
I get and agree with the principles you've outlined Justin. What I don't understand (around 5' 45") is that the manual setting show a significant positive EV (+1.7 then weirdly jumps to +2). Can't this be wound back which would reduce the over-exposure and reduce / remove the need for an ND?
Hey! I see what you mean, but it's slightly different on this drone. Let me explain. When in Auto camera settings absolutely you can adjust the EV to change the exposure of the image. However, when in manual camera controls, the EV instead is showing a real-time exposure value of the image. So with all the correct settings in the EV now shows at +2 like you mentioned. The only way to change the EV in manual is to adjust other settings to bring it back down. In this case it would be to increase the shutter speed. But that would then also remove motion blur, which is why we use an ND to bring down the EV instead. I hope this explains what's happening. Let me know if you need any further clarification 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT aha .. so if that’s real time feedback on the sensor reading of the EV, it will show the benefit of mounting the ND filter bringing it back to 0EV (or less, which might be better).
@andrewgough1558 Yes, exactly! I also tend to expose slightly darker on the mini 4 pro too. It's easier to recover shadow detail than it is to try and fix blown out highlights 😃
Outstanding Video. This is confirmed by me writing a comment on UA-cam. never doing this. :D That's what I want Videos to be like. Searching something on UA-cam. Getting into the topic real quick, no unnecessary filler scenes. Had the experience this video is much longer by all the informations and tricks you dropped. Go on like that ^^
Thank you so much! Yeah, I like to get into it and just fill the videos with all the info needed for a complete understanding. I don't look to make videos a certain length. They are simply as long as they need to be to contain all the necessary information. I find that a lot of videos are not very comprehensive. I want to make sure you get a better experience from mine. Thanks for the support and I sure will 😃
Thank you! No, I always set my timeline to match the highest frame rate I'm using. So when using 60fps footage, I edit on a 60fps timeline. 30fps footage stills plays at 30fps on a 60fps timeline. But if you try to play 60fps on a 30fps timeline, you will get a sub optimal result. 😃
Just bought a few Freewell ND filters after this and they are great, but how the hell do you remove them lol!! Any chance of doing a quick video of putting on and taking off please? Putting on, easy…but is there a method/knack of removing them please?
Haha, they are a little tight the first few times you pop them on, but just hold the gimbal with 2 fingers, then pull them off using the top tab. After 4/5 fits, they come off much easier 😁
@@JustinBainbridgeYT OK found trying to get top tab off wasn’t working, so held the camera lens firmly and kinda flicked the bottom corner with my thumbnail and that works 😂 Like you said, they will get easier after a few fits and because the Avata 2 is new, I was worried of breaking the camera.
Yess! I did think about this whilst I was editing and looking right at my 5 inch with the UV on the O3 as protection 😅 I always have a UV on if I'm using no ND for that exact reason. Although I don't tend to have many crashes these days it's still nice to know there's an extra layer there 🤙
Yeah cool, I'd say this is actually a must for such expensive drone if it means it saves one from sending in a drone if just lens is broken/scratched... Worth considering putting a subtitle remark into your video for this. Keep up the good work! P.s. @5:52 shocked to see that one can almost intuitively continue navigate to the right in camera settings menu, lol I didn't knew this and now I'll won't go vis the main menu again and again. (They really should have a right/left card wheel indicator).
you absolutely have the most amazing guides bout A2 on youtube. Many thanks for the content, greeting from brazil! One question: we can apply the same setting/logic of nd filter to the mini 4 pro? I've just bought my very first nd filters for the m4p and a2
Thank you! I'm glad you're finding the videos useful! Brazil! Awesome! Yep absolutely, here's a video I made on using ND filters with the Mini 4 Pro - ua-cam.com/video/BOXK3QyR8dI/v-deo.html
Playing around with the exposure value, eh (I saw +2 with the ND filter, which makes sense if it was still a little dark, and -2 w/o the filter - to drive up the shutter speed?)? I always do that in a forest as 0 always seems a little dark on my cameras. The Freewell ND filter pack (4 filters) arrived today for my Avata 2. Your video is what assisted me in deciding to order them.
Hi there, when in manual shooting mode, the ev is just shown as the current level with those settings. It's not something you set like in auto. I shows +2 before I put the filter on. When I pop the ND on, it drops to closer to 0, I think it was -0.7 in this case. Without the ND it was -2 the image was looking too bright at a value closer to 0 and I wanted to get a high enough shutter to show the difference. I'm also in the shade there so it would jump up around 1 point when I get back in the sun hope this helps 😁
Hey! Sure thing, you can not reduce the iso to lower than 100, and with the correct shutter speed, it will still be over exposed. This is why we need the ND filters 😃
Just ordered them from Amazon in the US from your link. Currently DJI ND filters as well as FPV 3 still unavailable here in Bangkok. Personally I like to see the crispy stuff in the foreground sometimes. IMHO, motion blur is overrated, regardless of what everyone thinks the human eye wants to see.
Awesome! It's not an affiliate link, but thank you for the support! That's a shame. Hopefully, you get stock soon! I left Thailand the week after it was released and luckily they had Fpv 3 radios in Bali. Sometimes a crisp image is preferable, but I do love a bit of motion blur 😅
Hi I am new to FPV drones. I have Avata 1 and ND filters. I know MD filters are used in over exposed lights, but what if the environment is dark like just before a rainy weather ? Or just before dawn? Is there anything that can boost brightness in that case? Any filters? Thanks in advance.
Hey, no there are no brightening filters, we can just increase ISO in low light environments, you'll still get a decent image up to around ISO 800 on the Avata 2 😃
Motion blur doesn’t come from the 180 degree rule, but rather from the relation between your shutter speed and the speed of movement in your shot. Actually the 180 degree rule isn’t a rule at all, but was rather a mechanical necessity back then when your film camera had to mechanically move the film between two exposures. The higher your frame rate - let’s say 50fps and above - the less relevant your actual shutter speed becomes.
So I'm new to all of this.. drones and photography so my question is why would u want the motion blur? It almost seems like it looks better when the image is sharper?
It's mainly because motion blur looks more natural to the human eye. Some people don't like it in their footage which is fine, but personally, I much prefer footage with some motion blur in it. 😃
Thank you! Yep absolutely, I generally fly with a UV filter on even if I'm not using an ND for the extra camera protection. Especially on my freestyle drone
Hi Justin - thx. for you BIG effort in your channel 🤘I use the FREEWEL ND FILTER, but it seems maybe someting is wrong - i have a LENS FLAIR (speciel when sun is coming from the back). Have you spot the same issue ? I thing the might com sun in from the back of the top of the filter ?
Hey! You're very welcome! Lens flares will always happen with cameras. They are normally when the sun is in front rather than behind, though, so it does sound strange. The ND filter forms a pretty tight seal with the camera housing, so I doubt that light can come in from behind in any direction. Maybe it's something else that you're noticing? There is also the possibility of a lens flare when the sun is high in the day which appears as more of a bright spot on the screen but again there's not much we can do on drones like this to mitigate is as generally you'd use a lens hood on a camera but we can't do this with FPV. Hope this helps 😃
Gimbal calibration fails with my Avata 2 when I have an ND on. Anyone else have this issue? Great Vid, very helpful. I've been noticing choppiness with ND32 at 30fps so I'll try ND16 at 60fps. thanks!
Generally you calibrate the gimbal without an ND fitted as it can come into contact with the body of the drone at maximum camera angles. The gimbal is capable of realising there is a filter fitted and compensating without the need for another calibration. 😃 Yeah the 30FPS does loook quite choppy sometimes even with the right shutter speed.
Hey! The ND filters will give you the motion blur in the goggles too. Some people don't like that, but personally, I don't mind. It's still really nice to fly with. They don't have any effect on how the image looks other than motion blur and exposure 😃
@fyzobaba Hey! These filters are only for the Avata 2. However, Freewell does make filters for the DJI FPV also. It looks like they are available as single pieces on Amazon or some other stores sell a pack of 4 filters 😃
Real estate shooting is a different beast. If you're going from indoor to outdoor, that normally comes with a pretty large change in lighting. You could try and balance the settings and have some manual but auto ISO to allow the camera to adjust brightness that way. Or just film without an ND filter or use a PL like I mentioned in the video 😃
@JinForTheWin79 I would do some tests indoors and see how far you can push the ISO without getting too much grain. You're generally pretty safe up to ISO 400 in decent lighting, but try it out and see. You might be able to push it to 800. You can always do some noise reduction in post if required, I would just spend an afternoon truing different camera setting combos and ND's and see what works out the best.
Would an auto iso limit of 200 and the use of an ND4 filter give you a balance to work with before edit? I am a noob to all of this but trying to make sense of these types of scenarios.
@azad-11 You would want to set your camera up outdoors for the right settings, so probably still and ND 16 or ND 8, depending on the day, and then let the camera have auto ISO control. Set an auto iso limit of 400 and test to see it that will give you a good result inside the building too. But you would still want to lock the shutter speed and white balance. Just let the camera balance it with ISO. My Iso was locked, so the auto iso limit is irrelevant in this video, but it still shows in the menu.
can you combine nd + polarized filter or do we have to use them single at the time? I saw already polarized nd filters from other brands, that's why I am asking. It's strange tho that they did not made them polarized and they are even more expensive than their competitors that are polarized. LOL. Anyway I saw that other freewell nd filters for example for dji air 3 are both polarized and not polarized in their offer
Hey! Nope, you can only use one filter at a time. The thing with filters is you can't really combine CPL and ND onto the same glass. You can combine PL and ND easily into one filter, but then you are restricted to having the filter in the correct orientation as polarisation is liner and therefore orientation based. Whereas a CPL filter doesn't have this orientation limitation. But they don't make ND CPL filters, just ND PL. Which is fine for stabilised drones as they are filming with the lens in the same horizontal orientation. So the linear polarisation is set to its most effective orientation for that drone/camera orientaion. With FPV, the orientation is constantly changing making a normal Polarised ND filter pretty much useless. Any cheap ND PL filters for the Avata 2 will have this issue. Hope this helps
What are your thoughts regarding the use of Gyroflow with stabilization turned off, versus Rocky Steady? Maybe you prefer not to use Gyroflow to take advantage of the Ultra Wide setting since Gyroflow only works with the Wide setting?
With the previous gen of rock steady, I didn't feel like it was quite there, so I would always shoot in wide with no stabilisation and then use Gyroflow. I still use Gyroflow with my gopro footage on other FPV drones. However, this iteration of rocksteady is much improved over the last, I tend to fly pretty smooth anyway so I get by okay, and yes, I also want to take advantage of the ultrawide FOV. It also saves me a LOT of post-processing time having useable footage straight from the SD. Rather than having to stabilise each clip before I can use it.
Can you make a short video info about concerning TSA security carry on with lots of batteries? But on websites I read info from TSA about batteries for drone how many can you carry the batteries?
Hi Johnny! This is something I could cover in the future. However it tends to depend on the airline you're flying with. To give you some context I regularly travel with 3/4 drones, and around 16 drone batteries. You always have to put batteries in carry on and I keep my more fragile drones with me in the carry on too. But I've never had an issue with the batteries. I always separate them from my bag when they're going through the scanner and sometimes they take a look at them, sometimes not. But it's never a problem. But yep I'll add it to my list of videos to make 😃
@johnnyfontechanic7556 Yeah 😅 I have to be prepared haha I've never had an issue with battery quantity. They're mainly concerned about the individual batteries not being over 100wh each. If you're travelling with a DJI drone in its bag, you'll have no problems they see them every day now, so it's not an issue
Yes, thank, great for info, when I get excited I usually moonwalking and spin “yay!”. Wait a min, INIU 140W Power Bank, 27000mAh High Capacity Laptop Portable Charger, eeh? Scratching my head 😳
Never mind I found on Amazon on the website that says “airline-approved” 🏝️🪘🏄🏻♂️🪇🎞️ what kind of software/app that you use for editing? 🙋🏽♂️(My first time) 🤷🏽♂️
Just try to hold the camera as best you can whilst pulling the tab at the top. It appears some are having a tight fit at first. But they'll loosen up after a couple of installs. Mine were a little tight but nothing to cause any concern. They loosened up after 4/5 uses
@6:16 is it fair to say that the Filter Frame being so close to the glass and "pushing on the top" is more likely to get finger prints on the glass compared to the filters from STARTRC which has a big ring around the filter or even K&F Concept which has the protruding handles top/bottom just like the original design? (Based on price and info they all seem very similar in materials/built quality)
I got fingerprints on the first couple times I fitted them then I just got used to it and my technique improved and no more fingerprints. it,s just another design to be honest. The handles are probably the best for avoiding finger prints, but at the end of the day I normally give the filter/lens a quick wipe before I start flying anyway so its not something that I'm concerned about. Interesting point though! 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT thanks, yeah i figured easy enough to wipe afterwards but the more reason to get the K&F Concept one to avoid that and hopefully have a little less hassle. I just need also a UV filter asap instead of risking damaging the original lens (like a screen protector that most people put on their expensive new mobile). =D
I'm using the exact same card, Sandisk Extreme Pro 128gb. Is it definitely a genuine card? There are a lot of fakes out there. I always make sure to buy SD cards from a reputable dealer, so I know they're genuine
Actually I like it better without the motion blur (and foreground in focus) in your example flying forwards. I mainly am concerned about jitter when panning or flying sideways and I think that is where I need to use ND filters, but you didn't cover that. (Although I guess FPV doesn't much fly sideways like my camera drones. But it does panning.). I got the A2 for indoors mostly, and manual mode would not be as good as automatic for the changing lighting. Interesting that you suggest the polarizing filter (which I got) for glaring surfaces. I got the ND pack, but I could probably live without it.
That's fair enough, some people like it, some people don't. Yeah jitter another byproduct of lower frame rates and high shutter speeds, but it's not something we tend to come across too much in FPV as we tend to record in a higher frame rate or use a dedicated action camera with ND's on it. Yeah a polarising filter works wonders indoors.
They will but it is a bit of a push to get it on, I just take them off personally. The whole gimbal assembly is mounted on rubber mounts so you're just pushing the rubbers back but I would just take them off. 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Isn't it annoying to attach and detach the filters before and after every flight? Especially with cleaning the lenses due to fingerprints
Just have a good hold on the camera and pull from the top tab, and it should come off. Some people are finding them a bit tight for the first few uses, but they get easier to remove after 4/5 uses.
Damn, these Freewell filters are a nightmare to get off the camera. It seems the only way to break them in is to eventually wear out either the nubs that hold them onto the camera or the edges of the camera lens itself which is not ideal. They're also difficult to keep clean with the glass recessed under the plastic edges. If I'd known this I definitely would've gone with the DJI filters.
Hey! They can be a little tight to begin with but after 4/5 fits they settle in and are fine. It sounds like some people are struggling a little more than others. I've been using them for a month now and they've been fine. Still secure and easy to remove and fit. Looking back at the filters it appears that the DJI ones are easier to fit/remove but they fall off much easier in a crash and they can sometimes give a blue colour tint. Whereas the Freewill fit much more securely with no colour tint. Hopefully, for you they'll be easier to remove after a few uses. As for cleaning, I haven't had any issues, most filters are recessed into a frame. In other news, I still have trouble removing ND filters from the original Avata camera/O3 air unit. Those are a real pain in the ass! 😂
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Yeah I reckon the DJI filters are out of stock for the next couple months because they're redesigning them, everyone was moaning about the blue tint. I'll keep trying with the Freewell ones, I'm just paranoid about damaging the gimbal 😮💨
@@SirCatflap Yeah it's annoying when filters give you a colour shift. You should be okay with them, like I say they become much easier to remove after a few uses and your gimbal should be fine. The single axis FPV gimbals are much tougher than the 3 axis gimbals we see on the likes of the mavic series. Just fit and remove them a few times and you'll get the hang of it 😃
Hey! It's so things look more natural to the human eye. If you were in the position of the drone you would naturally see motion blur as you fly along. High shutter speeds erase motion blur which is useful in some situations, but for things to look cinematic we want motion blur. At the end of the day it also comes down to personal preference. Personally I love motion blur and it think it seperates great footage from good footage. However, others don't like it and that's fine. It's your footage so make it how you like it 😃
Hey, no, I'm not shooting 2 stops over. It shows EV 2 because that's what it's reading my exposure at with those settings, when I stuck the ND on it then shows closer to 0. I know what you mean but we still aim for EV 0 on this camera, maybe a touch over to get better shadow detail 😃
Haha, some people do. Personally, I do love having motion blur 😅 Not sure about flying in 30fps, though 😅 it always feels weird through the goggles. 60 is so much nicer to fly
In Avata and Avata 2 there is a somethign called "Focus Mode". The Focus mode kicks in when there is bad connection between the pilot and the drone. So the feature basically puts all its focus in the center of the video clean, crisp and sharp while the edges blurs out or what looks like lower resolution feeling. The irony is I find the ND filters doing exactly that! Imagine a world where all drone were born with ND filters and suddenly a technology breakthrough makes close to the ground flying with ALL THE DETAILS without bluring them out! I bet we all want to move to that technology! And with ND filters I feel like we are going backwards technology wise. Of course if you want that "fast pace" feeling of motion blur ND filters are cool, but if you wanna capture details why would you put on a ND filter? I never understand this part! Its going backwards resolution/detail quality wise.
It's just a preference thing. Some people like motion blur, and some don't. The resolution is the same, but you just get blurred footage at the edges. I definitely see the time and place for not using ND Filters, but personally, I just think the footage looks much nicer with them. 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Hi Justin, now that you have played a bit with Avata 2, do you know what the white arrow in the translucent box located at the mid bottom of your goggle is for? Some sayits a compass, but it doesnt point North. And others say its HOME, but HOME is "H" and not an arrow. Have you seen this on your goggle?
Love the avatar 2, love freewell filters BUT they are insanely difficult to install they talk nonsense saying easy fit etc. they are maddening ha. Between DJI and freewell they couldn’t have made it any more difficult..
@edgodsall3740 Hey! Yeah, they can be a little tight for the first few uses, but after a couple of installs, they become much easier to install/remove 😃
Is this video sponsored? You don't say one way or the other and it would be good to know if what you say is your own genuine unbiased opinion. There are too many biased/paid for promotions and thus need to be treated with suspicion. I enjoy your videos but would like to know - just a quick mention at the beginning of each video woud be good. Just so we all know.
Hey, I have not done any sponsored videos as of yet, I did put a disclaimer up when I started to talk about the filters that said "I was sent these for free, I have not been paid for this video". But yep, I love freewell filters. Like I said in the video, I paid for all the filters for my mini 4 pro, my phone, and my O3 air units. I reached out to them because I genuinely liked their products. I'm pretty sure that if a video is sponsored. By law, I have to say it is. So if I don't say it is sponsored, it isn't. I dont think channels as small as mine get sponsorships anyway 😅 Check my video for the mini 4 pro ND filters, I say very similar things because they're great products. I will always be transparent and honest in my opinions of what I'm talking about. The links aren't affiliate links either, so I don't get anything from it. It's just to make it easier for my audience to get them if they want them 😃
"Freewell filters are great which is why I keep buying them" ... but you didn't buy them? And if I got filters for free, I'd think they were great too!
Hey! This is the first thing I have ever accepted on the channel as a gifted product. I bought all the freewell filters mentioned apart from these ones, which I would've bought had they not decided to be so kind as to send them to me. Also, my wording was different to this, I said I wouldn't have kept buying them, relating to my past filter purchases. I would never accept anything I would not buy myself or honestly recommend. I have turned down a lot of free products in the past because of this very reason. For me, it was a pretty epic moment to reach out and get something like this, but hey, you can't please everyone. 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT fair enough, as a new viewer that wasn't immediately clear. And it's not about pleasing everyone; its about transparency and accuracy. You gave no reason as to why those particular filters are great as opposed to any other brand etc, save only to mention you got them for free.
@playsbyshady That's all good, I tried to make it clear, but it's my first time disclosing something like this, so I'll work on ways to make it more clear in the future, some people wouldnt even tell you they got them for free. Thanks for the feedback 😃 Yeah I personally have just had really good experience with them, and I know a lot of others have too. I remember buying my first set of ND filters some years ago and picking up some cheap ones, and they were just nowhere near the quality needed. Hence why I went for some higher quality Freewell ones and have used them since. Yeah, I didn't really feel like I needed to compare them to other brands because it's up to you what you buy at the end of the day. I'm just letting you know what I use and the reasons why. I have no financial incentives here 😃
Great video, Justin. I was on it right before you pulled it to make some tweaks. LOL. I have a question, since I know you know what you're talking about. I got the DJI 8/16/32 ND filter set. I've yet to fly my drone outside of my apartment because of work mostly, which is letting me get more sim time in because I want to go full manual when I take it outside. What I'm curious about, though, is a lot of these videos with people using the Avata 2 I see in the bottom part of the screen some weird distortions that I don't see in your videos. It looks really bad. Is that because they're not using ND filters and manually adjusting their shutter speed an ISO? It doesn't look good, and I don't want that when I start flying this video in the outdoors. Thanks for all the info, again, and keep the great videos coming. I'm learning a lot never flying FPV, and only getting into drone flying with my Mini 4 Pro about six months ago. Enjoy them.
Thank you! Yeah, there were some issues in the upload so I had to make re-do it haha. It' back now and better than ever! Okay nice, sim time will make the transition to manual 100x easier. Hmmm I'm not sure what you're talking about to be honest? Can you link a video with where you've see this so I can take a look and see what's going on? Potentially they're shooting in auto settings but I would be surprised if that was the case. Not a problem, I've got plenty more to get filmed and published so ther'll be no shortage of things to watch 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Thanks, Justin. And sure thing. I'll look for one and post it. I don't see it on every video, but a few I've seen have some really bad pixelation on the bottom of the screen I've never seen in your videos. Looks bad. Don't want it in mine.
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Found one. Took me a bit. I don't see it often. If you go to 3:36 on this video, you'll see the pixelation I'm talking about popping up a lot at the bottom of the screen and moving up. It's weird. ua-cam.com/video/L1NpA30xx6Q/v-deo.html I was thinking that was an ISO or shutter issue. Why I got the ND filters. Never seen this on your videos, though, but most of the guys just starting out like me. Honestly, looks bad, and moves up the screen at times. Edit: Watching it now on my computer, I don't see it. But on my 65 inch 4k TV, it's really noticeable. And, again, only some videos. It's mostly when flying really fast at near ground level. Maybe it's because my monitor sucks. But really noticeable on a high-end 4k screen.
@mjw420 Just had a look, and I see what you mean. I'm pretty sure this is a result of the image being too sharp. On the Avata 2, I have my camera sharpness set to -2 and the same with my noise reduction. I prefer to have the cleanest raw image to work with and then i can add more sharpness or noise reduction in post if I need to (which is not often). I think this is what you're seeing. Oversharpening plus high shutter speeds can make it even sharper, which will quickly start to degrade the video. It could also be due to improper export settings in the video editor but I think it's most likely due to oversharpening. I have a video planned on how to make the Avata 2 more cinematic, where I will be covering things like this. That video is probably still a couple of weeks out at the minute though. I still have some really cool locations to go fly at first before I have enough footage for that.
Thank you once again for a very informative video without getting boring. Keep them coming.
Your very welcome! Plenty more to come 😀
Thank you..This is the best video on youtube about Avata 2 and ND filter.
Thank you! 😃
Super helpful vid!! Can’t wait to try on my ND filters that just arrived 😊
You're welcome! I'm glad you found it useful. Enjoy getting that cinematic motion blur! 😃
Awesome video and great explanation of how to use the filters. Thanks again.
Thank you! I'm glad you found the video useful! You're more than welcome!
well done Justin! cheers from Brazil
Thank you! 😃Beautiful country! 🇧🇷
Another great vid Justin. 😎
Perfect timing because I ordered the Freewell 4 pack plus and extra ND4 filter last night.
I have never flown a drone before. LoL
Tomorrow or the following day will be my maiden flight.
The Video I needed! Thanks, this was very helpful!
@@papierkorbknackwurst Happy to help! Thank you for watching 😃
If any of you are here because you intend on using your footage for CGI, and specifically, tracking - you should go to manual camera mode and get some lenses for your drone. The auto mode is impossible to track because of the almost undetectable changes in color and light that it performs. Learned from experience. wish you the best
Great information as usual, thanks
Thank you! 😃
Good shit bro. Learning a lot from your content.
Thanks Bro! I'm glad you're finding the content useful! 😃
Hey! Yeah chasing rc planes will be much more effective using the FPV controller in manual. Where abouts in WA are you based? 😃
I’m 300km from Perth , a town called Merredin , we have a small club there and I’ve always been interested in photography as well , love chasing planes 🤣🤣
I’m also just starting out on manual mode , a stiff learning curve , thank god for the pause button 🤣

THANKS BUDDY GREAT EXPLANATION
You're welcome buddy! I'm glad you found it useful 😃
I am buying the avata 2 nice for showing us these filters bro👌👌👌👍👍
That's awesome. You're going to love it! I went out flying my freestyle fpv quad again today, and part of me was missing the Avata 2. It's really growing on me, and I like how it flies. ND filters and motion blur is just 🤌
The best video explaining how nd filters are working so far. Do You really think that we need all of them? UV, CPL, 8, 16, 32, 64 ?
Nice! Ordered the 6 pack a few days ago. Good vid.
Good stuff, Hope you enjoy using them when they arrive! Glad you enjoyed the video 😃
Thanks for sharing this video. i’m definitely gonna try this and you got a new subscriber😊👌
You're very welcome! Let me know how it goes! Welcome to the community 😃
Great review of the Freewell, I ended ordering K&F Concept they seem be a reputable brand. I hope they do the job for what cinematic videos I am looking to capture!
Yeah you should be safe with K&F concept. Good luck! 😃
thx justin for this information
No problem Sam!
Amazing, thank you.
Well done bro thanks for telling US 👍👍👍
Thanks bro! You're very welcome!
Outstanding Video. This is confirmed by me writing a comment on UA-cam. never doing this. :D
That's what I want Videos to be like.
Thanks for the support and I sure will 😃
Wonderful content! I’m wondering on the 4K/60FPS video if you’re working in a 30FPS timeline or not.
Thank you for sharing!
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Thanks for the reply
Just bought a few Freewell ND filters after this and they are great, but how the hell do you remove them lol!! Any chance of doing a quick video of putting on and taking off please?
Putting on, easy…but is there a method/knack of removing them please?
Haha, they are a little tight the first few times you pop them on, but just hold the gimbal with 2 fingers, then pull them off using the top tab. After 4/5 fits, they come off much easier 😁
@@JustinBainbridgeYT thank you 🙏
@@JustinBainbridgeYT OK found trying to get top tab off wasn’t working, so held the camera lens firmly and kinda flicked the bottom corner with my thumbnail and that works 😂
Like you said, they will get easier after a few fits and because the Avata 2 is new, I was worried of breaking the camera.
@3:33 Worth mentioning UV filters also protect the lens in case of a crash (when no ND filters are used). ❤🔥
(They really should have a right/left card wheel indicator).
bought Freewell ND filters cus of ur VIDEO !
That's awesome. Enjoy! 😃
Thanks dude!!
No problem dude!
you absolutely have the most amazing guides bout A2 on youtube.
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Cool!
Hey, First of all thank you for your video. I have a question. Instead of using nd-filter, can't we simply increase/decrease ISO?
Hey! Sure thing, you can not reduce the iso to lower than 100, and with the correct shutter speed, it will still be over exposed. This is why we need the ND filters 😃
got it. thank you so much for your response.
Wow..dji avata 2 in bali 😍
@duck_fpv yes so beautiful! 😃
Thanks Bro.
You're welcome bro! 😃
Do you think the PolarPro nd filters are worth it? The shutter and vivid collections?
PolarPro do make very good filters also. I use them on my GoPro. I would go with the Shutter collection if you go with PolarPro 😃
great video thank you! and are ND filters good for stopping dust and scratches etc please?
Thank you! Yep absolutely, I generally fly with a UV filter on even if I'm not using an ND for the extra camera protection. Especially on my freestyle drone
@@JustinBainbridgeYT thank you for replying
Hello, i would like to ask if nd filters makes better picture when you look directly in goggles? Doest it make more pleasure to fly?☺️
Hey! The ND filters will give you the motion blur in the goggles too. Some people don't like that, but personally, I don't mind. It's still really nice to fly with. They don't have any effect on how the image looks other than motion blur and exposure 😃
Hey quick question, can one use this filter on the dji fpv (potatoe)?
@fyzobaba Hey! These filters are only for the Avata 2. However, Freewell does make filters for the DJI FPV also. It looks like they are available as single pieces on Amazon or some other stores sell a pack of 4 filters 😃
But what if I fly from outdoor to indoor? Real estate photography. Should I use nd filters then too?
Real estate shooting is a different beast. If you're going from indoor to outdoor, that normally comes with a pretty large change in lighting. You could try and balance the settings and have some manual but auto ISO to allow the camera to adjust brightness that way. Or just film without an ND filter or use a PL like I mentioned in the video 😃
That’s what I do but want cinematic look outdoors while having good low light sensitivity indoors without grain.
The avata 1 filters fit the avata 2 or no?
They won't fit no
What are your thoughts regarding the use of Gyroflow with stabilization turned off, versus Rocky Steady?
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Interesting, I’ll try that method. Thanks again for your insight!
Is there a color cast to these filters?
Nope, no colour cast on these filters
But yep I'll add it to my list of videos to make 😃
16 drones batteries! 😲

Just try to hold the camera as best you can whilst pulling the tab at the top. It appears some are having a tight fit at first. But they'll loosen up after a couple of installs. Mine were a little tight but nothing to cause any concern. They loosened up after 4/5 uses
@@JustinBainbridgeYT thank you
@6:16 is it fair to say that the Filter Frame being so close to the glass and "pushing on the top" is more likely to get finger prints on the glass compared to the filters from STARTRC which has a big ring around the filter or even K&F Concept which has the protruding handles top/bottom just like the original design?
If shoot 4:3 have vignetting when using nd filter?
Nope, no vignetting when shooting 4:3. I shoot some clips in 4:3 to use for both UA-cam and Instagram 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT ok done buy for same brand hehe thx
Which sd card do you use i use a sandisk 128 gb extreme pro and i get "writing speed to slow message" i also formatted the card too
I'm using the exact same card, Sandisk Extreme Pro 128gb. Is it definitely a genuine card? There are a lot of fakes out there. I always make sure to buy SD cards from a reputable dealer, so I know they're genuine
@JustinBainbridgeYT i mean i bought it off amazon.....i just ordered the only samsung one they recommended on the dji website....thanks for replying
@beams098 Yeah, even on amazon, there can be some fakes. That's a shame. Yeah, I also use the Samsung Pro plus cards, they're excellent cards 👌
@JustinBainbridgeYT update*...i switched to the samsung one and no issues...thanks again for the replies
Will these Freewell filters fit under the gimbal cover of the Avata2 Cam?
They will but it is a bit of a push to get it on, I just take them off personally. The whole gimbal assembly is mounted on rubber mounts so you're just pushing the rubbers back but I would just take them off. 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Isn't it annoying to attach and detach the filters before and after every flight? Especially with cleaning the lenses due to fingerprints
How to remove the ND filters easily? It is very difficult to detach them!
Just fit and remove them a few times and you'll get the hang of it 😃
so why do we want motion blur? i dont get it ? whats wrong with everything being clear and precise? why do i want the images blurred as i go by?
It's your footage so make it how you like it 😃
So are you purposely over exposing by 2 stops i saw it said ev 2 in your settings. I know when shooting log3 it’s like 1.7 over on Sony
Thanks for clarifying. I haven’t tried yet. I’ve been shooting in auto. Finally just got ND filters yesterday so now I can
I prefer no ND filters 😅, I like the clarity.
Now to find a good video on editing drone footage to a 9:16
Love the avatar 2, love freewell filters BUT they are insanely difficult to install they talk nonsense saying easy fit etc. they are maddening ha.
It's just to make it easier for my audience to get them if they want them 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Great! Understand completely. Keep up the good work!
He did state that he has always used freewell filters on his other drones , who knows maybe he really likes them that’s why he used them here 🤷♂️
@playsbyshady That's all good, I tried to make it clear, but it's my first time disclosing something like this, so I'll work on ways to make it more clear in the future, some people wouldnt even tell you they got them for free. I have no financial incentives here 😃
freewell is overpriced imo now
I still think they're well priced for the quality of the product.
Please, no more ND filters.
Some people love them, and some people don't. I love using them, but each to their own 😃
Great video, Justin.
It's weird.
ua-cam.com/video/L1NpA30xx6Q/v-deo.html
I was thinking that was an ISO or shutter issue.
Great question mjw 👍
I see this on some of the other channels avata 2 vids as well.
