The makers are constrained by the specs so there is no race for bigger and more powerful and they have to work within the design constraints, just like an F1 car designer.
If I could go to ANY car show in Japan it would be this one. AMAZING old Kei-cars extremely nostalgic and kawaii for a former resident of Tokyo. Love the pickup trucks especially, like the one full of Shiba Inu. What make was that? Thank you Daniel, one of my favorite episodes of Wasabi Cars yet! 😁
One of your absolute best videos to date, Dan. Having the 40 series Crown and the Laurel (?) in this video made it absolutely awesome. Personally, I'm a huge fan of Japanese land yachts (I own a neatish MS112 Royal Saloon, soon to be 1uz powered), so any Crowns, Cedrics etc are right up my alley. The Kei cars in this video were heaps cool too.
@@wasabicars there's something amazing about the Crown. Mechanically basic, but a very sophisticated car at the same time. They also have an amazing purity about them as well. Kind of Cadillac like in concept, only built with precision, and ultimate reliability in mind. Personally, I'm glad they have a "nana car" reputation in Australia, as it makes them a very affordable classic car to own.

I tend to have a ho-hum response to the fan-boy Japanese cars, but will admit that white Silva was ultra clean with perfect understated mods. I did notice a 80-81 Subaru GL like the one I owned briefly and a glancing shot of a bro-dozer lifted truck, quite the mix.

The t360 Honda truck (1st generation blue with all the doggies), had the highest hp for that year per cc beating Ferrari . 9000rpm and dohc engine, Honda made this instead of the n360 to make the cut off for kei car manufacture status. Next generation TN360 was sohc and 32hp for mass production.

@@gaijincoolgoods9955 as much as I'd like a kei car (where I live is rife with imported kei trucks and vans) the engines are pretty lacking when it comes to ascending steep-ish roads. For the city roads though, they do pretty well.

I live in Japan and have driven my kei car all around the country and never have felt the need for more power since on most highways speed limits are 80 or 100 kph. But yes, I can see in the USA where you might not be able to keep up, especially since everyone seems to accelerate so hard.
I love these cars lol oddly I actually know many of the names even if they didn't come here or maybe they did I know hem more from collecting diecast cars lol the Autozam is kind of special to me because I got to actually sit in one the car was like really cool lol I think they look like a mini Ferrari lol these cars all look cool but the way people drive these days I am not sure I would feel save in these cute little cars But years a Autozam AZ1 was in a little specialty shop that imports the Kei cars or I guess just anything maybe but the guys there let nme sit in it I guess the car belonged the family People have gone crazy at times

What surprise me the most is although many countries had already put attention to global environmental problems, turns out in US & in my own country there's a regulation that banned this type of low cc car, although it's much more compact for single ownership & for save space & fuel consumption, funny ha
I don't know for certain, but I suspect car manufactures want to stop imports, and block such cars because they would have to develop new cars to compete

@@gaijincoolgoods9955 as much as I'd like a kei car (where I live is rife with imported kei trucks and vans) the engines are pretty lacking when it comes to ascending steep-ish roads. For the city roads though, they do pretty well.
@@possibly8180 they are built for Japanese driving conditions. I live in Japan and have driven my kei car all around the country and never have felt the need for more power since on most highways speed limits are 80 or 100 kph. But yes, I can see in the USA where you might not be able to keep up, especially since everyone seems to accelerate so hard.
