So I went to art school for 4 years and loved drawing and painting growing up, after I graduated I kinda just dropped art in general due to work and having important responsibilities. I picked up art again about a year ago and it’s been great, I’ve been doing the thing I loved doing as a kid and it feels amazing. The only down side is that I’m not as good as I used to be and it’s made me self conscious about my art, I’ve found myself comparing what I’ve done to other artists work and it’s taken a small toll on my art. In this video you said one of your P’s is Preserve. I wanted to thank you for this video because it opened my eyes to a small part of why I painted as a kid, and it was to paint for my own joy and happiness and not care what others think. Hi Sarah. I know it's been a while since you posted this and I'm assuming that A LOT MORE than 500 people have clicked the link above (since this video is getting close to 1 million views - WOW) but I just wanted to make sure. I also wanted to tell you how motivating this video was for me after I finished watching it 5 or 10 minutes ago. I've been an artist for a pretty long time and have been in a major slump for a while. Your tips are basic but very helpful. I'm currently on Winter break from college and have been watching LOTS of doodling, zentangle, etc videos and this 1 has very helpful. I have my standard patterns that I draw and have been looking to learn more bc I think it will make me more motivated to draw more, but my self-doubt and anxiety (among other things) have been making that difficult. 1 of the points that you made that especially resonated and I think is going to help me is about starting with shapes and lines. I've been told that before and have always thought I understood it but seeing how you created something amazing out of a handful of shapes and lines really opened my eyes. So thanks for your help

I like to use permanent or waterproof pens so I can use watercolors on my art. I enjoy your work and it is great for envelopes, like paying bills or sending friendly mail. My Grandsons are enjoying your art, too.

We all start at drawing stickmans. You'll get better at drawing if only you practice. In drawing, though, I believe you can't just apply Practice makes Perfect. What you can apply is Practice makes Better. That's what I experience.
