    I’ve sold to Fashionphile and they labeled the item I sold to them as “new” and “giftable” because I included the box, receipt, tags, etc. i fully disclosed that the item had been used. I think “new” means no serious signs of wear. It doesn’t mean unused. It’s why I won’t buy anything from Fashionphile labeled as “new” if it’s within $500 of what I can buy new from the boutique.

    • @simply_her_perspective

      Totally agree - if it’s close to retail pricing, I’d rather buy brand new vs “new”.

      That's deceiving, they should at least label it as "like new"

      Curious - what did they give you and what price did they list at? I tried to sell 4 bags and their quotes were a complete joke.

    • @ea1420
      @ea1420 2 роки тому +3

      @@totesgene It depends on the brand. LV most offers are at least 70-75% of retail. Gucci is terrible. One offer was 30% of retail the other was 40% of retail. Selling to FP only makes sense to me if you are selling them LV, Chanel, or Hermes.

    I cant believe the could describe a bag that has "cracks" or corner wear as excellent. I've seen that. I would never buy any bag that has cracks or rubbed out corners for more than $50 bucks. I never understand how people will buy a Chanel that looks like it's been through a war for $2500. I rather not have it.

    • @simply_her_perspective
      @simply_her_perspective  2 роки тому +4

      I’m the same way; however, I know some people will purchase a piece in order to fix it up/refurb it (some have saved hundreds/thousands of dollars going that route). To each their own!

  • @camiscloset2369

    I think they mean new is NEVER WORN, not whether or not the style is still being sold in the boutiques. It might have a faint scratch here and there from being tossed around etc...

    • @simply_her_perspective
      @simply_her_perspective  2 роки тому +4

      In my mind “New” means brand new/current, but I could see them meaning “never worn”. Clarification AND consistency on their part would help 😜

  • @gloryahb117
    @gloryahb117 2 роки тому +19

    Because fashionphile specifies the items are pre-loved, it was never a question in my mind to think that “new” condition, meant it was a brand new current item from the fashion house. It would be like expecting to get “new” items at a thrift store. The item may be in a like new condition, but some one somewhere bought it somewhere else and then you are buying it 2nd hand.

    • @simply_her_perspective
      @simply_her_perspective  2 роки тому +4

      Fair point - that’s where adding “Like” before “New” would be more transparent, but that’s just my opinion 😀

    Great job on this video (been enjoying your channel) and great topic that I don't hear much about on this platform. Everything you have mentioned, I have experienced. I actually just experienced your #5 with trying to sell a classic chanel flap this past month. I was offered 40% of what their selling value is..so it seems there mark-up is around 60% from what they pay their sellers.

      Wow, only 40%?! (Did you end up taking it?) That’s a high mark-up, especially for an e-commerce site. Ohhh, Fashionphile…such a love/hate relationship 🤦🏻‍♀️

    I mean, it can be new and un used but from past seasons. The disco has been around a while. Like the Antigona for example. It use to have a short non removable strap. Someone could buy it, not use it and sell to FP. It would look diff than the newer style but still be deemed new.
    They are off lately with their labeling though. Like, they have some that are very good ht look brand new

    While I was searching for a LV bag on Fashionphile, since I have been looking for a while, I am familiar with the price new. I noticed that many Fashionphile's prices are $30-$250 price difference. I would pay for a new item rather than a pre-loved if I dont get a good discount and the bag is in excellent condition. Because as pointed out, excellent on Fashionphile, does not mean "excellent" for the consumer. Do your due diligence.

    I am very skeptical about buying pre loved anything. I only buy from boutiques or Neiman Marcus is a fav of mine. I did sell 4 bags to Fashionphile. I brought the bags to their Manhattan site because I dont trust mailing my bags. Obviously I have trust issues, LOL. They obviously dont give anywhere near what you paid even if your bag is in pristine condition. My concern is how do they guarantee the bag is authentic? They have "experts" inspecting the bags. They are only human and they can make mistakes so how do we know for sure? I really want an LV I saw on there. It's "new" condition. But I'm so scared of buying it then finding out down the road that it's fake.
    Their conditons make NO SENSE. A brand new with box and cards will sometimes be less money that a used "excellent" condition. Like you said, new with faint scratches. Maybe got scratched in the warehouse. Great video, by the way.

    I had a good buy lv with fashionphile. I was sold a very smelly lv from the realreal. The realreal didn't disclose the smell. Now I'm busy trying 2 get odor out. I have noticed they are higher than lv store on some bags. You have 2 do your checking. Thanks for get tips.

    • @simply_her_perspective
      @simply_her_perspective  Рік тому +1

      That’s the primary reason I don’t buy pre-loved - you’re taking SUCH a chance with their listing descriptions and hoping they’re disclosing everything about an item (and it’s not always the case). Regarding odor, you have to be really careful with how long you do it, but I’ve put items outside in direct sunlight and it’s helped tremendously (the heat from the sunlight plus fresh air helped to remove old, musty smell in a vintage leather piece). Good luck in removing the odor 🍀

Personally, I don't/ can't buy from Fashionphile, because shipping to Europe (and eventually shipping back, if I don't want to keep the item) with taxes and fees would be wayyy too expensive, but nevertheless a very interesting topic! I think that their "giftable" rating is the real new as you would be able to gift it to someone without them necessarily knowing it's second hand. Whereas new seems to mean it's still a fresh from the store yet had use of maybe 1 month. I've sold bags after one month of use cause their white white and so I don't Wana taint them and even after only going out with me 3 times the bag will still have the tiniest mark on the interior or the faintest mark on the hardware. It's still New. I think for people buying second hand they have to let go of certian standards and embrace the concept of second hand. When it comes to Fashionphole my sister owns several products that are rated Very Good from them and she's shown me them and I say with certainty that they over list the marks. When the bags arrive even the "very good" ones are truly in excellent condition. The marks may seem a lot in the photos cause we are looking at a photo of it being singled out but when you have the bag in your hand and it is in great shape overall.

    • @simply_her_perspective
      @simply_her_perspective  2 роки тому +1

      Fair point (and I know they’re trying to be more transparent with their listings and their descriptions); however, that hasn’t been my experience. I recently purchased an “excellent” item and they did not disclose a major flaw with the bag…seems like purchases from FP tend to be all over the place 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • @nadiafox777
      @nadiafox777 2 роки тому +2

      @@simply_her_perspective I do agree they are all over the place cause I've noticed stuff is listed as very good and one will have only two things listed and another will still qualify as very good yet have like a dozen signs of wear listed and it's like OK these can't both qualify for the same category. I'm a Canadian too so after exchange rate often it's NOT a deal at all I am very strict though I only look for stuff that's under a thousand or else it's like night as well just get a thousand dollar Giftcard to the real store and wait til I can buy new.

    • @simply_her_perspective
      @simply_her_perspective  2 роки тому

    Yes Fashionphile use to be much better a few years ago in terms of the quality of their items and their prices. I found that as more people began to shop the pre loved market, Fashionphile changed. The description of the quality of their items has gotten bad. Their “new” means it is a new bag, but not created that year. Pre loved sellers do sometimes price out higher than the Fashion house website. I always check my prices with other pre loved sellers and the Fashion house. Several years ago, I found some great deals, but that has changed. I do still like their free shipping and free return policy. However, you have to be careful with that. Your 30 day return starts when you purchase the bag no matter how long it take them to ship it. I think they have employee change over because I have had to call them several times regarding an item I was looking at on line and they had to make corrections in their description.

    • @simply_her_perspective

    I’ve a lot of great experiences with them, but have noticed their condition labels have become more lenient. Excellent really used to mean excellent. True; however, they don’t always disclose every angle (on one bag I purchased from them, they did not disclose a stain on the inside…the photo was conveniently cut off to not show a quarter sized stain). Plus, they sometimes use generic photos in their image carousels, (I’m watching an item right now that’s an electric blue color, yet there’s an angle where the bag is powder blue/it’s clearly not the same bag). We have to be detectives and examine every angle when we can (💯 with you on that), but FP also has to ensure the accuracy of the photos they’re using for their items.

    Fashionphile does discloses the year of the item was made or out of the market. So no doubt that "new" does not mean to be the lastest model of the products in the market. Plus if the newest products are sold cheaper than the official brand website, that actually is a red flag for me. And good thing of Fashionphile is that they allow you to return the item in 30 days, that is a big guarantee if you misread or are not satisfied with the quality of the item. So I don't get panic shopping at Fashionphile at all.

  • @StephsAdventuresAndFabFinds

    I am a long time ebay top seller & I sell contemp. for the majority & have taken my studies in the high end market recently to heart. I have purchased two pieces from Fashionphile in "giftable" condition a Chanel Make Up Pouch & a Hermes charm that was my first & btw I just did pay the same price as Hermes WITH the item being on sale but as my first piece I didn't even think to look @ Hermes. That being said here's how it goes on ebay. When listing an item high or low end I look at what the items are selling for. Not have sold for, but are listed @ bc that sold for price means nothing it is always much less than the truth idk but ya so I go just a notch higher than the lowball screwball who is trying to outprice the rest of us sellers in that market bc well, I'm worth it as a long time dependable seller. And I get it. I have a fantastic sale through rate for it. It cost an average of 10% - 20% even 30% in some cases to sell a high end piece bc they are so high maintenance I don't lk to fool with it. I purchased a Chanel new with tags still affixed & ebay authenticators contacted me by phone & email nay they tracked me down even lol lk my house was on fire to let me know the bag was new as in had the tags affixed but it was completely trashed I mean damaged beyond repair kinda thing lk chunks of leather missing cracked off & was wooh lk ran over by a mac truck several times & then some it was truly a bad piece photographed in a way as to be deceiving. The auth. crew from ebay were so cool they even took cell phone shots of the damage & emailed them to me in their shop with it on the exam table. They sent it back for me when they got my go ahead & refunded me instantly. I've also noted ppl are starting to photo their bags in the shop @ purchase so make sure to get a recent photo from the seller on that costly a purchase. If a bag is that expensive they won't mind taking a fresh photo for you so ask. I sell on ebay bc it cost less than the other platforms. Therefore, the items can be obtained much less & even if a best offer is not available I can message the seller & ask them could they take less & work with them on what I have to spend & what they can take (remember cost % $ to sell). But always on all of these platforms beware you are taking the chance a "new" item may not be this season (check listings or ask) & may not be a "fresh" piece unused ask the seller if it is the "new condition" as to what you consider to be new that is important. Please let me note it is my pet peeve I suspect both pieces on Fahsionphile were used even if slightly & lightly but ya. Little crinkles in leather, etc. A trained eye would most often know. Ebay is strict in that New With Tags (retail tags AFFIXED) NWT & NIB New In Box are fresh items w/o consideration of release date. That doesn't mean ppl always follow that rule. It's made me & a few other sellers go ten rounds.
