  • Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh Arrives in Abuja for ECOWAS Summit
Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has arrived in Abuja, Nigeria, to participate in the 66th Extraordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State of ECOWAS.
He was received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by a delegation that included Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Julius F. Sandi, the outgoing Deputy High Commissioner Anna Moussa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Francess Piagie Alghali, and officials from Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The summit convenes ECOWAS Heads of State to deliberate on pressing political, economic, and security issues impacting the sub-region. The meeting is expected to foster strategies for advancing peace, stability, and development in West Africa.
Analysts believe this session will build upon topics discussed during a prior ECOWAS meeting in June, which focused on economic challenges, food security, and regional peace efforts.
West Africa continues to face significant challenges, including economic stagnation exacerbated by the war in Ukraine and lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, political instability remains a key concern, with four of the 15 ECOWAS member states currently under military rule.
