Granu-plucks is awesome. I wish Roli would make a regular style keyboard with all the same functions. I was really hoping to have an option that would allow you to save the sounds on board with an analog out. To have sound onboard, we would need to run the engine on the device, which would be a lot more expensive. We have made several improvements to RISE 2 and Equator2 and will be releasing ROLI Dashboard with Expression curve presets. More details on roli.com.
I personally feel that seaboard design is brilliant overall, but one downside I do have with my blocks setup is replicating something once I've worked out what I want to do. Not sure if it's possible to lock more perameters down in the software, but it definitly feels like there's always variation in every playback - with my only remedy being to render in place the minute I find something that works, but then that bakes everything in too. Still, Roli's gear and software are a solid playground to get motivated and discover some really cool sounds! Edit - more to the point though, even with the new board, how easy it to replicate a performance and lock it down?
Thanks for your comments! All 5D parameters can be adjusted in Dashboard to help you find the right balance for your playing style for each expressive dimension. For RISE 2 we have actually changed the keywave. The shape of the new Keywave2 surface was perfected after years of rigorous testing and feedback from both Seaboard and piano players.
I noticed there was no portamento in the acid bass demo, because the dang old waves just get in the way of that. It's like trying to water-ski at the mouth of the inlet of the bay. Like trying to play billiards on Wavy Gravy's gravy table.

holly shit that looks and sounds amazing(holy shit and amazing are an understatement to be honest). but ig it will take a lot of time to master it as it is quite different from piano?also is this the maxium size available?
🙏🙏🙏 Glad you like it. Yep, definitely different than than piano, it has entirely different capabilities with 5 different ways (strike speed, depth of pressure, x axis movement, y xis movement, and lift speed) each finger shapes a sound. However, the fact that it has the form factor of a keyboard makes all of those gestures natural and intuitive, so you come to it quickly. Exploring and mastering it is the fun part. Yep, a 49 key is the maximum and only size available.
You can take a deep dive into the design changes and our philosophy behind them here: roli.com/stories/seaboard-rise-2-the-seaboard-id-always-dreamed-of-making
This keyboard is such a great Idea but I have been trying to buy a full size version for about three years now. I thought they went bankrupt because I can't find them in any music store and on their site it always read out-of-Stock. we will see if Roli can get off the ground with production. I hope the new keyboard is more than vapor ware.
the notes on the seaboard keyboard are really just a guide for people familiar with piano, its sensitive to touch even in between the 'keys'. if the synth you are using supports MPE, then you have full control of pitch with your fingers. for example you can make a sound vibrato by wiggling your finger, bend to notes by sliding from one horizontal position to another, or play microtonal notes by not hitting the center of the keys on the keyboard. sliding up or down on a key doesnt necesarially control velocity/volume. it controls an arbitrary MIDI value that you can then assign to control literally any parameter of your synth.
Yep, lots of keyboards have aftertouch. A critical difference here is that aftertouch is polyphonic and controlled independently per note. Beyond aftertouch, there are also 4 other controllable expressions: strike speed, pitch bend, y axis movement, and lift speed. Each of those parameters is polyhponic as well. What you are able to achieve here is fundamentally different than what a keyboard can accomplish.
I am watching this guy play, and just about every time he does something to change a synth setting all his fingers go the same direction on the key bed. There are a few places that one note is bent alone, suggesting one channel of polyphonic touch. I have always loved polyphonic touch and after touch, and very few companies offer it. Does this fully support polyphonic touch and poly after touch? And if it does support it, which version of it does it use midi wise? (7 bit? 14 bit midi 2, is it programmable, etc) Can it be used to fully control a poly after touch hardware synth such as the ASM Hydrasynth? Both playing it and assigning each the 5d channels to individual cc commands to modify parameters, etc? The vast majority of your demos appear to be specifically geared for people that are already familiar with the product(s). Which ironically leaves more questions than answers for someone that is not familiar with the product. Sorry for all the questions that may seem silly to someone that knows a lot about it...
Hi David, yes the Seaboard RISE 2 does fully support polyphonic touch and aftertouch. In the included ROLI Dashboard software you can customize 5D parameters to control hardware synths - I'm not 100% sure about the ASM Hydrasynth in particular, but certainly other MPE synths such as the Endorphin Shuttle Modular Synth.

after the LUMI disaster FRAUD, please tell me... there is someone in his life will ever PRE-ORDER something from ROLI?
I have some ROLI SEABORD BLOCKs. Even if i have a amatorial USE , the silicon surface detach in many points, dynamics not respond well and where i can repair it? send it back? (it will cost more than by new! and will it return to me?) warranty? (ROLI do not take seriously commitment with CUSTOMERS wich PAY in ADVANCE a keyboards and they do not send). Really... amazing innovative products.. but drammatically not seriuos company..
trying to explain sound with words is stupid and impossible. u gotta have a feel for it. so when you guys talk al this tech stuff. us normies are just looking at yall sideways. i am amazed in the range of sound this thing can produce but. to explaine a creation???
If only I had €1300 lying around 🥲
Just lovely, I can't wait to get my hands on the waves... I would really like to see (hear) more of the near-realistic sound setups and the fast playing capabilities of the seaboard!
Thanks Shareef, look out for more RISE 2 videos in the coming months
Pre-ordered mine! Owning a seaboard has always been a dream of mine since the first release so I can't wait. I'm curious to see what the learning curve is like as someone who plays a typical keyboard.
I returned mine because it was so one-lined and only works with apple and abelton pretty much. As a keyboard player it was pretty much just a more difficult to use keyboard that costs 10x as much
@Target yes.
Thanks for the support. We are trying to make it as easy as possible to transition to Seaboard. You can read more about the changes on roli.com.
No true, it works with all MIDI compatible hardware and software and also all MPE compatible hardware and software. Including LIVE 11, Logic Pro, Bigwig and Cubase.
@@WeAreROLI why is it only compatible with Apple devices then?
I just want to know who else noticed the accordion sound included the sound of the analog accordion key presses 🤯
Me
is gorgeous...so futuristic! You guys should show more the ARTIST playing this. Is a new way of performing and requires a lot of new skills. Amazing!
Guys, you've made one of the most awesome instruments i've ever laid my hands on, and there's been a lot of instruments. Really excited seeing you alive and kickin and looking forward to get one.
Dear Roli brand ; please do the same marvel but dawless like an op1 ; a keyboard you can bring everywhere battery operated ; with synth engine in it and the possibility to add more sounds with a computer
Thanks for the feedback 🙏
That would be great - the Seaboard GRAND did have the synth engine built in to allow DAWless use but that was a limited run and much more expensive than the Rise.
♥️♥️♥️♥️
This is so ASMR I just want to listen to some one strumming away atmospheric ambiance on it for ten hours straight
This might hit the spot for you, then 😂: ua-cam.com/video/lx3QfNQhAkQ/v-deo.html
When i was a kid (i still am) i envisioned something like this would take form in the future. Seeing it pop up in my recommendations was like revisiting my childish imaginations.
When will be the new Announcement with new Piano L be released? I want to buy it
A phenomenal new instrument for my most inspired piano 🎹 students to learn from very early ages! Thanks Roli!
I wonder how all the rubber in the keybed endures overtime.
I had so many bad experiences with controllers that uses plastic and rubber in their panels starting to peel off and stick to everything.
Really nasty!
I would get this if it wouldn't put a crater in my wallet.
Is Equator2 sold separately, without the need to purchase a Roli keyboard? And, does it work with other midi keyboards? Thank you.
