    Turns out I'm not a Hardbraker and brake pads on e-bikes rarely last more than 2000 km. Too bad I did not know about this before. My front brake pads have worn down to the metal and scored the brake rotor. So, time for new pads and discs for my bicycle.
    No big deal, bike parts are cheap compared to car parts. I paid just over CHF 100 for new pads and rotors (front and rear) for the Magura MT5 4-piston-brakes fitted to my bike. Replacement is easy enough that even I can do it. The bedding procedure takes longer than the brake swap itself since you're supposed to stop 30 times from 30 km/h per single brake. That makes 60 braking manoeuvres!
    Also, since this is a boring bicycle video there is Pizza at the end.

    Hey Mario! Probably stating the obvious but e-bikes go through brakes much quicker due to the extra weight and speed over a standard bike. You can buy heavy duty metallic pads better suited to e-bikes but like metallic pads in cars they chew up your rotors faster. I have changed many sets of bike pads over the years (former bike & car mechanic) but for some reason I didn't find this boring at all 😊

      Thanks for the technical insight. I don't have an e-bike but the brakes still need service and I'm debating bringing it to a shop so they can do it because I'm really not motivated to do it myself.

      @@imnotusingmyrealname4566 it’s not too hard and there are plenty of resources to help online, but it’s your time and your choice. The fine adjustments (centering the caliper and trueing the rotor if needed) are often what noobs find most challenging. Once you master those it is pretty straightforward. Give it a go I would say 👍.

      @@slasher9883 Thank you. I can at least try before paying someone else to do it.

      Yeah, as a car guy I literally had no idea. I thought they would do something like 10'000km. 😅
      Also, I often take it round the two small passes behind my village, which might be a bit harder on brakes than just riding around in the flat. Although most mechanical work on my cars is done by professionals I refuse to bring my bicycle to a shop. On the one hand the last remaining bit of manliness in me demands I at least do this myself and on the other hand the logistics of getting the bike to and from a repair shop would take about the same time as me just doing it.

    so I'm sitting in NZ watching a guy in Switzerland changing rotors and pads when I should be mowing the lawn. Partner wants to know the temp and cooking time for the sauce😄

    • @swisscarguy
      @swisscarguy  2 роки тому +1

      My basics foe every tomato sauce: as low and as long as possible without it completely drying out. Cooking the sauce for a prolonged time takes out the acidity and makes it velvety. I usually have it 2-3h on the lowest setting. Just stir it every 30min and a bit more frequently towards the end as it can burn once a large part of the liquid has evaporated. You can even add water to prolong the cooking time further.
      Leftover sauce can be frozen and then just thawed and used for the next Pizza.
