I always enjoyed how situations were personal for Raylan, but also not personal. He'd have a conversation, shake hands, and make amends with almost anyone. Yes, it's a TV show but I like this about his character.
Justified is my favorite TV series ever. Raylan was so cool and still human, to say nothing Boyd Crowder and the other characters. Really well-written and acted. I don't even watch TV anymore.
Raylan was man of his word. Think it was a first season episode maybe second. He's having a standoff with a couple of guys on a road. He tells one of them something like "You take one more steps towards me , I am going to shoot you." The guy says something takes a step forward Raylan shoots him. The guy had this look of a shock on his face.
This show, its characters, and its dialogue is some of the best in any tv series of all time. My wife and I are on our annual rewatch of it! Still holding out for a Justified feature film, or a spin-off centered around Jacob Pitts’ character of Tim Gutterson!
It's the other way around for some people here. Talking about those who read all his books, maybe 2 or 3 times, until he passed 9 years ago. Watching these clips is as close as we can get to new Leonard dialogue.
I think that I've read all of the novels with Raylan's character in them. Raylan, Riding The Rap, Pronto and Fire In The Hole. One of them is a short story. All great reads.
I know this guy was a boxer and could prolly beat any of thy characters, but in general i LOVE how raylan lost almost every fight he got in. That his temper was his biggest adversary. It made for so much suspense knowing he wasn't king shit everywhere he went and set actual stakes now and then.
He won most ACTUALLY, but these were definitely a few humbling scenes. Bar fight, this and a couple others.. but he easily scrapped and won (got the better hand). He did win most fights. It was fun to see him lose a handful though.
For sure. Remember the scene where he comes upon a convenience store robbery by two escapees? He got beat in that case. I love that he was not an infallible character. He was definitely not perfect and his anger and emotions surely got him more than once.
He was exceptionally good at two things, pistol and reading people. He was never good in a fist fight, most of the ones he won were quick or a close call.
Well if we were to look at some of the fistfights Raylan was in, he held his own in them fairly well. The guy in this video was a prize fighter so he was naturally a better fighter because of his experience, Raylan did ok in that bar fight against the two guys up until one of them hit him with a 2X4 and then they stomped him, and he lost a fight to Coover Bennett but Coover was a big strong ox type of a guy. Other than that I think Raylan was good in a fistfight generally and could handle himself but he wasn't always the better fighter basically.
I met Robert Baker at a bar in Memphis several years ago, I recognized him from this show. He talked about being in The Lone Ranger and G.I. Joe Retaliation. Nice dude
I love how Raylan smiles when Randall says "at the end of day when it's all done, she's still kinda worth it though, isn't she?" He knew they both got twisted up in a messy person.
4:24 The way the music kicks in with the acting and camera angle. It's hard to explain but this show has sooooooooooooo many moments like this that just give me chills.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

From the mind blown creators of The Equalizer, Sons Of Anarchy And Rambo comes for a shotgun on the scenery called “The Justified” starring Timothy Olyphant.
justified was good on so many levels the writing was tops , on technical issues the gun work realistic and fun to watch , but for the best all around pump shotgun work it always goes back to the steve McQueen classic " the getaway " the 870' Remington 12' gauge pump riot shotgun at work is still the best on film
Remington is garbage quality these days, keeps selling to different corporations trying to stay afloat and their QC is awful... It's been a while since your day lol
The 12 gauge McQeen used in The Getaway was a High Standard K-1200 Riot Standard shotgun....I agree though, you could tell by the way he handled it that he'd been around a shotgun or two before. He was generally good with firearms....there's a scene during the hotel shootout where he and Ali McGraw are going down the hallway and you see him lift the shotgun to point to the ceiling to avoid sweeping her with it as he moves......I highly doubt that was scripted....he just knew you don't sweep people with firearms of any kind.
They'd do more than that. You can kill someone with a bean bag round, depending on where you place it. In reality, that guy wouldn't of gotten up from that first shot, and if he did, he wouldn't be fighting anyone.
@@matthewriley7826 Yeah but it is drastically less likely. Professional fighters train to take hit and work to build up muscle mass that protects against things like been bag rounds, specifically the human fist.
I think it was S2 that had an episode with a quick draw guy that would set a gun on the table and dare his victim to go for it. Lead to scene involving a place mat on a table and Raylan. That'd be a great scene to post
McQueen retains his legendary cool throughout many of the scenes, especially in one scene where he's asked what his stun gun does. "It ruins their day", he deadpans.
@@No3Jacks I'd say the biggest difference is that Deadwood was cancelled before it was finished. The movie tried to wrap up as much as it could. I thought it was okay, but definitely not up to the peak of the TV show. Justified told its complete arc, so there is really no need to get a film to tie anything up. The story is done, so it can just be left alone to be remembered and revisited.
@@CosmicPhilosopher The big weakness with the movie is that they made it too late. Would have been much better if Powers Boothe was still alive and in it.
Raylan only won fights when he wasn’t the one attacking, every time he used his anger to engage in fights he would lose. Or he would go against more guys, he would always lose but his wit was what always made him win. Even in the final shootout with boon he knew he was in trouble so he didn’t bother aiming for the head instead the heart.
Raylan never aimed for the head-always the heart. They say that in the very first episode-only assholes aim for the head because they all think they’re Rambo
Is it just me, or was Randall actually kind of a decent guy? I mean he had plenty of opportunities to beat up Raylan, he didn't take any of them, even when Raylan was directly provoking him, he went out and fought random guys to earn money (then got harassed by other assholes and had to fight them too) and start his dream and make his girl happy, and even after everything was done, he gave Raylan friendly advice about getting into the chicken fighting himself. Lindsey was the one who played them both and took off, but other than beating up that random dude who just flirted with Lindsey, Randall was actually pretty fair towards people, and he ended up betrayed, shot, and taken to prison. It's almost certainly not going to happen, but I could easily imagine him making a comeback and even working together with Raylan and being a good guy in some future scenario or whatever.
One thing that I always liked about this series was how much Raylan sucked at fighting, he is a killing machine with a gun in his hand but can barely take thugs on, it's a refreshing change from other shows where the main character is untouchable.
At 20 feet beanbag rounds will knock you for a loop and you may have to go to the hospital. As in this scene, with a range of maybe 5 feet, they can kill you. But it's a great scene anyway.
Disappointing, that Raylan couldn't lick a stamp. From his' stance to his' delivery. Looks like great work from all his' zingers & 1 liners though. Really good writing, it seems.
I love this show, but it always bothered me how casually those bean bag rounds were used at such close range. You can definitely get a bruise so terrible it'll turn into a clot that breaks loose and kills you days later. Those things are no fucking joke.
