    Chicken scene aside, that part where she wishes that she was a pretty white girl is so sad... Because nobody loved her, she couldn't love herself.

      I understand your anger, but please do not make this about skin colour :/ I am a white lady and I was disgusted by Chad K's comment and I think he is a terrible person. We only get rid of racism by combating it all together, not shifting the racist focus on another skin colour. Of course some white people's ancestors did such terrible things to people of colour, but as long as we promote love and equality now, I don't think we can to this day be held responsible for what happened in the past. Blame that on the people who did it, and now blame racism on the people who are openly racist (such as Chad K). Racism is an ignorant belief people form in their heads, its nothing to do with skin colour.

Sometimes people scoff at me for being religious, but when I think of all the people in the world who suffer, who struggle with their health, their self image, their value; I have to believe that we are all beautiful, that we are all wonderful no matter how we are "made".

    This movie came out when i was like, 15 or 16 and back then i found humor in the chicken scene, but a few years later and growing a little older, this scene legit disturbs me. Precious was starving and had not one cent to purchase food. She tells her mom she needs money and that she's hungry but instead making sure her child eats, her mother has her come in to perform a sex act on her. Dis-fucking-gusting. Both of her parents were sexually abusing her. BOTH. Then she has to resort to stealing food only to regurgitate after 1. Running while eating unhealthy greasy fried food and 2. Being pregnant. Pregnant but her father for the second time. This movie is dark as hell.

    The scene of her getting ready with the mirror really hit me hard, because I used to do that too. I loathed my appearance so much that I always imagined that I looked like someone else, someone who was skinnier and more fair skinned. This is why I love this movie so much. It portrays the deeper and darker side of reality like body image, incest, and sexual abuse

    • @lizsugrue5806

      For somebody that’s fair skinned, I’ve always wished I was born with a beautiful tan; bt I was sickly white and hated it. Bt it’s not really about skin color r weight; yur beautiful just as you are. I just wish the magazines stopped with the bitching and instead encourage the whole world to start accepting their own beautiful Instead of the ‘ideal’ beautiful.

      There's lots of reasons for obesity. If you go and watch my 600 lb life, not all but majority of the people on that show were SA as children and used food to cope. People with trauma use food to cope. ED's are a addiction unfortunately they're like drugs except instead of using drugs we use food.
      My parents force fed me as a kid, they were scared I was going to be assaulted because they thought I was a beautiful child . it was a way of them protecting me and I've grown up on both sides of the ED spectrum because whenever I'm stressed or going through a hard time I either eat or I restrict. Not always SA , but its common.

    Precious is a great movie. It is just sad that some people tend to criticize the movies and actors in a bad manner but tend not to receive the actual message that is being delivered throughout the movie. There are plenty of people in this world that hasn't lived the "normal" fairy tale life as the next person yet the outcome of it is that those people still strive to be great, want better for themselves and struggle to get to their achievement. I wish people can stop making fun of people that they do not know anything about nor what they go through in life as well. Those people that are always usually being bullied, picked on, mistreated and abused tend to be the most beautiful, loving precious people of all.

There will somehow be ignorant people who will attack your greatness; mostly due to their lack of ambition to seek their own, so they will rather seek to tarnish yours or try to cause more issues and problems for you to deal and struggle with because they are miserable. That's why it is wise to seek and search for what makes you happy and bring you joy; and stick to that. You're welcome.

      Easy to say if you have at least a halfway decent mom/parents who wouldn’t even fathom doing shit like that to you, but imagine if going through crap like that was all you knew, and/or you knew the only other option was the shitty foster care system, and/or you have a kid/kids as a teen, and/or you still feel some semblance of love for your abusers, and/or they had psychologically groomed you before/after the fact . Fortunately, my parents never abused me in *that* way, BUT my mom was very verbally and physically abusive to me growing up, still picking up the pieces of that and other crap today ...in my late 20s.....never occurred to me to call the cops or tell anyone because even though the way she treated me (in part) made me so depressed that I started thinking of suicide before I was even in my teens, she was still my mom and I still love her, and the way she would blame me for things, anything, everything, I honestly felt I was just a shitty kid/person and that I was the one with the problem and not her, not to mention I don’t think any kid in their right minds *wants* their parents to get in trouble with the police etc.

      @@twdjt6245 Thanks for saying this. People usually think it's easy to break out of abusive parents, but it isn't. As someone who grew up with a physically and verbally abusive mother, I couldn't bring myself to ask for help from others, I loved her too much. Abusive parents aren't monsters to you 100% of the time, they can be nice too, and that's how they control you and make you believe their actions are normal. Hell, I remember been disgusted with myself for thinking ill of my mother when she beated me up, 'cause I was so used to hear her saying I deserved that and it was all my fault, that I believed her.

    • @kumada84
      @kumada84 8 років тому +27

      +kawaiisrs07 People want what they can't have and covet things that are "unique". There are relatively few women that naturally have the combination of blond hair, light skin, and blue eyes, which is one of the reasons so many cultures hold women who look that way up as "standards of beauty" and then push that view onto their children. It's the same reason women who were overweight were considered to be the ideal back in the days when the majority of people (a.k.a. "poor people") were thin and starving because only rich people could afford fattening food, and extremely thin women are the "ideal" now that the majority of people (again, "poor people") tend to be overweight because fattening food is cheaper than non-fattening food.

      Ive never done that. Idk I dont think im the prettiest, I have a big nose but I didnt have the imagination to make believe I was someone else. Especially not a white woman....ohhh but I did imagine being adopted by white people, like them coning in my life and taking me away to live a happy life with them.

    When this movie first came out I was maybe 11 and my mom had the dvd. I saw it on the shelf one day and asked if I could watch it because it was a new dvd and I had already seen everything else on the shelf. My mom said I was too young for it and I could watch it when i was older and could understand it. Me being and 11 year old disregarded her and snuck and watched it anyway. I understood as a child that Precious’ home life was horrible and that she was being abused. I regretted watching it, it was depressing to me. The second time I watched it I was a junior in high school. The film that I used to find depressing was heart wrenching. Nothing went over my head I understood every painfully subtle sign of abuse like her mom telling her to take care of her even though precious herself was starving. The book and the movie are something I still think about today.
