It sure looks like your CGO3+ camera is out of focus. If it came from the factory that way I would ask for a replacement from Yuneec. The camera on my Typhoon H produces very sharp 4K video, especially when viewed on a 4K monitor. Also, to get the best results, you should be locking white balance while pointed at a white card and manually setting exposure once airborne.
This is a great side by side comparison. I'm going with the Typhoon H and will later get the Phantom 4. I believe the majority of the manual settings on the Typhoon more than compensates for the poorer auto settings. My main reason for getting the Typhoon H first is simply customer support. I need a working drone, not one out for service for months at a time.
Also, check your data on the Yuneec Typhoon H lens. The manufacturer lists the field of view for the 14mm lens as 98 degrees, not the 115 that you cite in your comparison. That is only 4 degrees wider than the Phantom, if accurate.
Please advice how to set up or increase the distance over 500 meters of DJI Phantom 4. The limit set up is max only 500 meter and when I fly away about 500 meters, it announces to over the distance. What should I do? Thanks a lot for yours advice and I'm very appreciated that.
Good video and yes the CGO3 camera leaves a lot to be desired. You didn't mention that it will go to 120fps -- other than that -- really accurate and having the color and focus issues on my H. Hopefully Yuneec will begin offering camera upgrades as the camera is designed to be swapped out. Just have to wait and see what better cameras they come out with.
I'm really interested in the Autel X-Star Premium Drone. Have you had a chance to use it or do you plan on reviewing it? It honestly looks like a straight up DJI killer for the price and build. It also comes with an awesome carry-on case that's the best I've seen for free anyways. Thanks!
I've seen several reviewers say to use "none" or "art" over dlog. They say that those modes give you better detail and that on the phantom's camera you loose detail with dlog that can't be recovered in post. Here's a good discussion on Phantompilots that discusses it. www.phantompilots.com/threads/art-vs-dlog-comparison-video.79636/
True. Best color grader we know (Yuri Palma) mentioned same concept in his interview, he has used footages in his amazing Rome by bike and Motion 4K Vol. 3 and you see grading is at same level than in the other footages
While I agree with most of your findings - and the differing bitrates with the H is very interesting, indeed - I will say that in at least one case with the church being fuzzy, most of that on the H is that it is also overexposed, which contributes to objects looking fuzzy. As for auto exposure, I've found the best results with all drone cameras when setting my exposure to manual and then shooting a scene at a time and changing the exposure as needed. In the example of the ground footage revealing more detail in the shadow, as opposed to the sky, the Yuneec got the sky right and better. In any scene where you have this much contrast you need to manually expose, manually set white balance, and then open shadows in post production, as needed. This is really not much different from shooting video on the ground with conventional video cameras, SLR's, or mirrorless. Digital has historically had issues with holding tonal range much past 1:8. Having said this, I still agree with most of your findings and with my H I'm looking forward to firmware upgrades to solve some minor issues, and lens upgrades, or eventually a camera replacement to provide the rest. I also have an Autel X-Star Premium and the camera is far better than on my H. Ideally, I'd love to see the X-Star camera on the H, as the creative control over panning and tilting with it offer many advantages not realized by simple tilt gimbals. Keep up the great vids and reviews!
Just some advice: When you make multiple videos at a time, release them one day at a time. It will get you more exposure and entice more viewers to subscribe. Keep up the good work!
MfG B.K.
Please purchase your new drone via my link to support my work for free! DJI Phantom 4: goo.gl/jbt2Y3 Yuneec Typhoon H: goo.gl/zqTKXj Cheap alternative: goo.gl/weXjEh Thanks all together!
A friend of mine got a DJI Phantom 4 and I am very impressed with it's video and build. I have a Blade Chroma with CGO2 camera and I absolutely hate it. The build quality of both the camera and gimbal are very cheap and fragile. The white balance frequently shifts with extreme changes for no apparent reason. The lens flares are just ugly. I like most everything I've seen about the Yuneec Typhoon H except the CGO camera.
...............great comparison!!!!!!!!! THANKS!!!! ....how stupid are the managers of thyphoon? It would be a great copter if they would have build in a great camera!!!!!!!!! Is there a way to connect a other camera????? And if, which one would you buy so that it is an advantage over the Phantom4 4k Cam????? .....what stupid people give you 43 dislikes??? I cant understand!

How ever much coffee you're drinking in the morning, you need to cut it by half!

lol, please show me pictures taken at 4 or 8 seconds with either drone (while in the air of course)
to be fair, no professional filmmaker would use either of these for work... these are ment for amature drone ethusiasts
I can tell you, that u are wrong. :)
12golgaa if I turned up to a client with these, I would be laughed at and told to go away
They are very often used for documantary or for TV productions, where no RED or ARRI is needed.
You should tell that to all the folks who fly Phantoms for shots in the programs you watch on TV (netflix, HBO and others) almost daily......
+Drone Flyers Multirotor & Quadcopter info no they don't, they use big rigs, free fly altas Dji s1000s, m600s etc

Great comparison and tests, Tom. Thanks! I learn more about my P4 from you than the manual from DJI!
Any possibility of doing an in-depth guide for the Litchi app?

Hey Tom! Is the Yunnec offer a direct-save via Wifi to smartphone?
hast Du schonmal die Tornado CG04 von Yuneec getestet, ist zwar teuer dafür ist da die GH4 eingebaut... geil
Hey Tom, which backpack would you recommend for the P4? The one by DJI or a third party one?
Please compare cameras of Autel X-Star Premium and DJI Phnatom 4 or add Autel X-Star Premium footage/specs to this video. Thanks.

I have the X-Star.. It is really nice, I think better than the H.. I also have a Q500...camera is not as bad as presented here. Happy Flying.
when i use dlog i get a very mushy image but when i use art i get high dr and still much better detail? could you maybe help me with dlog
