  • In this video, I introduce an incredible strawberry that I believe will be sure to amaze. This strawberry is smaller, softer, and more flavorful than regular strawberries. It has a melt-in-your-mouth texture and tastes better than any other strawberry I've tried. The unique thing about this variety is its resistance to critters, with low slug pressure and consistent fruit production throughout the season.
I've harvested my first crop of these strawberries and they are the earliest fruits in my yard. They surpass other fruits like raspberries, blackberries, and currants in terms of taste and texture. I share my experiences of growing and dividing the plants, explaining how they clump and spread over time. I also started new plants from seeds and transplanted them into a raised bed. Through this video, I encourage viewers to grow these amazing strawberries themselves and provide updates on my own planting efforts. If you want to learn more and join me on my gardening journey, I invite you to subscribe to my channel.
Strawberry Introduction (00:00): Today, I want to talk to you about a strawberry that will blow your mind. This strawberry is so incredible that it will make you want to grow it. My goal is for this message to resonate with you and inspire you to grow this amazing fruit.
Unique Features of the Strawberry (00:32): Let me share with you the exceptional qualities of this strawberry. It tastes better than any other strawberry you've ever had. It's incredibly soft and melts in your mouth, offering an amazing texture. Plus, it's not bothered by critters in your yard, and the slug pressure on it is minimal. This strawberry even produces fruits throughout the entire season.
Season-Long Production (01:15): I've already harvested my first crop of strawberries from this variety in the past few days. It's the earliest fruit in my yard, and I grow a wide range of fruits. From strawberries to raspberries, blackberries, honeyberries, aronia berries, gooseberries, currants, and many more. But this strawberry stands out because it keeps producing fruit.
Introduction of Alpine Strawberries (02:36): What strawberry am I talking about? It's called an Alpine strawberry, and it's not your typical store-bought strawberry. It's smaller, softer, and bursts with way more flavor and fragrance.
Describing the Taste and Texture (03:09): Trust me, when you taste these Alpine strawberries, you'll be amazed. They melt in your mouth like a piece of chocolate. Their texture is so delicate, and the flavor is out of this world. I shared them with my brother and his girlfriend, and they couldn't believe how good they were.
Growing and Dividing the Plants (04:39): Over time, I've learned how to grow and divide these Alpine strawberry plants. They clump instead of running like other strawberry plants. I recently spread out a bed of them after separating a clump I had been growing for a few years. I ended up with a lot of plants, thanks to the seeds that fall to the ground and germinate.
Planting New Seeds (05:15): To further prove my love for these strawberries, I started a tray of Alpine strawberry seeds. They can be a bit tricky to germinate, but with the right conditions, they sprout within a few weeks. Today, I transplanted them into a raised bed, and I'm excited to watch them grow.
Updates on Planting and Colonization (06:21): Take a look at these newly transplanted seedlings. I've filled the raised bed, allowing the plants to colonize and spread. While the recommended spacing is about four inches, I've learned that as they clump and spread, they require more room. So, I'm not only encouraging you to grow these strawberries, but I'm also expanding my own strawberry garden.

Thank you for your inspirational video. I ate my first white Alpine strawberries 30 years ago in the Blue Mountains of NSW Australia. I was part of a land care group learning amongst other things to grow food organically. I experienced exactly your description of Alpine strawberries, sweetest melt in the mouth. And they certainly aren't bothered by any insects or even birds I guess because the berries are pretty small with lots of leaf coverage. I look forward to your videos 👏❤

I remember Mike Wellik talking about selling the strawberry store. If anyone were to do so, you seem to be a good candidate. Can’t let varieties such as these become extinct.

I love Michael s work. Bought from him many seeds. Always germinate well and the berries are always fantastic.

I had probably 20 growing in large pots and ate the berries for a few weeks but it got really hot and they all died. My whole yard is full sun. Do I need some way to plant them in partial sun and just water often?

What temperatures are good for them and what humidity levels? Acidic soil, sand helps to start the seeds like others say?

I ordered a unique variety of woodland strawberry from edible landscaping called Christina White and got my first fruit this year. Same thing that nothing bothers it but the fruit are so small and the ripeness is so hard to judge I wouldn't say they were worth growing. I've had a few good ones that taste like watermelon candy and others that are just pure acidity like a store-bought strawberry. I ordered a bunch of seeds from the strawberry store to give some of these Alpine white strawberries a try. The one good thing about the woodland strawberries are they grow well in the shade and I have them as a foundation planting on the northwest side of my house

I'm growing some red alpine Strawberries, because i won't stop reproducing via runners (even though they are no suppsed to do that) i'v got loads of plants and generating new ones. I havn't tried one yet, but they are getting close to turning red

I just planted 4 white alpine strawberry plants myself. Still figuring out when to pick these for peak ripeness, given that they don't turn red like normal ones.

Once they go from white to a slightly yellow hue and when the seeds go from slightly green tinged to yellow theyre ready. They should fall off the plant with essentially 0 pressure.

I just got down if these seeds from Baker seeds. Did you cold stratify yours first? I know the red Alpine Strawberries need to be cold stratified first but I was not sure if these do too ?

My Baker Creek White Alpine seeds were not cold stratified but they germinated quite well. I let mine soak in diluted hydrogen peroxide overnight and all of my seeds germinated in about ten days. I made the mistake of planting too many in one cup thinking they wouldn't germinate well so I became overwhelmed quickly with all my plants lol. I wish you the best with your strawberries.

@@Artelu thank you for the tips. Do I use half water and half hydrogen peroxide that is very interesting I have never used that technique before.

    • @Artelu
      @Artelu 2 місяці тому +1

@@ambermahaffy2422 I used a ratio of one cup of water and one teaspoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide. I put a generous amount the solution in a labeled plastic ziplock bag with the seeds.
Usually people use hydrogen peroxide if the seeds are old but in my case I wanted them to germinate faster because the solution forces air and water into the seeds.
I soaked beet seeds overnight the same way and for me I saw sprouts in just two days. Some seeds like my frosted salmon flowers sprouted at the expected time about two weeks later. So the hydrogen peroxide solution didn’t make all my seeds sprout faster but but for my first attempt at sprouting seeds I had a high germination rate.
      I hope this helps. 😊

You should try growing Virginia strawberries there aslo very sweet there American wild species there is to species of them to. Also there is Chilean evergreen strawberries native from South America to Alaska which I want personally want to get I think there also sweet. Virginia strawberries are superior then alpine strawberries in my opinion but make smaller berries.
