- Meat wrapped in a tortilla has been part of Mexican food culture since Aztec times. Despite Mexico being its neighbor to the south, tacos and other Mexican delicacies weren't part of the diets of people in the U.S. until the 20th century.
Given how prevalent and popular Mexican eateries are in the United States now, it's kind of hard to believe, isn't it? Mexican, Tex-Mex and Mexican-inspired food is just about everywhere you look. Fast-food and fast-casual Mexican fare has been particularly popular in the last few decades. It's cheap, fast and delicious! But you shouldn't just go anywhere to get it. Some places are way better than the rest. Here are the biggest fast food Mexican chains, ranked from worst to best.

I don’t go to Taco Bell for Mexican food, I go there for Taco Bell food 😁
Anyone who says Chipotle is mexican are the same people who say "Hola me latinx amigx"
My parents were born and raised in Mexico and I can tell you that chipotle is way better than most Mexican food.
@@samuelplacensia9979 I lived in Mexico, and Chipotle isn't good.
@@samuelplacensia9979 you havent had real good mexican food then
@@jacquelinevenancio5917 Like what??
I used to work with a guy from Mexico. He would eat at Taco Bell regularly. I asked him about it and his reply was," It is good,. It is not Mexican, but it is good.."
Like Jack In The Box Taco, not Mexican but awesome!
Pollo loco is so underrated they are so good.
Back in my college days, my roommate and I would raid Del Taco in Huntsville TX at least 3-4 times a week...late night. Soooo much better than Taco Bell. Alas, they disappeared from Texas in the mid-80s. I now live in Maryland, and wish DT would go national again.
My friend is American and he prefers del Taco. He said Taco bell puts sugar even in the salsas.
Yea, moved to Austin from SoCal. 4yrs ago and couldn't believe no Del Taco.......best bud reminds me of this once a week with pics of him at Del Taco enjoying life......bastard.......
Del taco is 👍 great!
Great burritos
They have Del Tacos in Florida so if you can make it down there you could try it again.
I'm a fan of Taco John's, meat & potaato burrito, they always hit the spot on my dining experience.
I worked at Chipotles. Don’t eat there!! Ever!!
Del Taco all the way !!!
I know it wasn't authentic, but I miss Chi-Chi's
i think it was the most authentic chain of the mexican food ones though i could be wrong
Oooh, you struck a nerve 🤧, I loved the skillet meal, none better.
@@robjackson4050Semi-authentic because the founders wife is from Mexico.
I can't think of any other brand that has tanked their own reputation as badly as Chipotle.
I won't eat at Chipolte's any longer.
Bring back the Enchirito!
They really do need to bring to back.
You ranked Chipotle at the bottom!!!! You guys finally got something right! And for that reason and only that reason I’m giving this video an up vote!
This isn't reddit this is youtube
yea but then they put taco bell, and dell taco on top is sad
@@notfounder285 both are better than Chipotle.
@@jamesboswell530 Ehh, i would argue against it, both are bad, but as a mexican i can say Chiptle is better than taco bell
@@notfounder285 I strongly disagree. 🌮 🔔 is cheap and good Chipotle on the other hand is expensive and bad. But that’s just my opinion.
Taco Bell is #1 bc Atleast they’re in every state. Open late and food is hot. Not perfect but can’t argue much when you get a bag full of food for a few bucks
Taco john better
Rating Moe's on top is a joke. The last time I went there, about 4-5 years ago, I stepped up to order, and I quickly learned they were out of beans. Are you bleeping kidding me? A Mexican restaurant that is so poorly managed that they run out of beans? I never went back, and that Moe's location closed shortly thereafter.
So you're basing your opinion of an entire restaurant chain on one bad experience you had? That's dumb. Moe's is awesome
Yeah, even though I like Moe's ok, I still can't believe they ranked it on top.
Um, I worked at Taco Cabana and I can tell you that at least when I worked there, every morning super early these sweet ole Mexican ladies would come in and make all the tortilla's and salsa's fresh by hand! Those were the BEST tortillas and salsa! My boyfriend also worked there and we practically lived on those bacon egg and cheese breakfast tacos! I'm from Ohio but was staying with family in Texas when I got a job there. It didn't last long since they kept putting me on drive through and I don't speak Spanish lol I had NO idea what they were saying. Those taco's and salsa bar though I will NEVER forget! YUM!
I literally had del taco 3 nights straight. The crunchtada with guac really satisfied my Mexican pizza craving. It’s surprisingly good, filling and cheap
So much diarrhea to be had
Try the 2 for 5$ 8 layer burrito
I lived off Top Ramen during college (would up losing 50lbs my last six months). Was lucky to get a great job right after graduating. With my first check I hit Taco Bell. Got a chalupa box, quesarito, potato griller, chicken quesadilla, and and two extra soft tacos. The friend that went with me was speechless as my skinny 125lb self demolished it in like 10 minutes lmao
This is such a cute story 🫶
Del Taco, all day, every day.
Around Cincinnati the only ones I'm aware of are Taco Bell and Chipotle.
Fast Food-
Taco Bueno & Taco Casa both beat the hell out of Bell, Del, & Cabana!
Fuzzy's is lightyears better than Torchy's!
Freebirds & Bad Azz Burrito make Chipotle look like McDonald's!
"I'm hungry. Let's get a taco." -MR. WHITE (Pulp Fiction (1994).
Taco hell used to be good back in the day, especially when it was REAL ground beef....
We have most of those chains here in San Diego. It's a natural fit for the market. But I don't usually go there. For me, it's either Cotija's, or El Pollo Grill.
No Taco Bueno? Can't beat their party tacos and party burritos.
Taco Bell has limited their menu so much.
I miss Meximelts to death :(
Id imagine they had to. Too many choices is calling for too much waste and lower the profits needed to have a business.
@@merrittascott4408 no the CEO is just an idiot
I was devastated when the Colorado Taco Buenos closed up shop. By the the best of the traditional fast food Mexican joints.
We used to love Taco Tico way back in the day when we would go visit our family out west. Then a few weeks ago me and my friend were driving back from Pigeon Forge, TN and we drove through Lexington, KY and they had a Taco Tico so we had to check it out. We thought it was great! I wish they would come to Columbus, OH. Del Taco is starting to move into Ohio so I can't wait to try them out sometime.
5:44 hey it's my car!
I loved Baja Fresh. I used to eat there food a lot when I was a kid
I've only ever heard of Chipotle and Taco Bell. Are these other restaurants nationwide or more regional?
I love el pollo loco. They have awesome coupons and 9 times out of 10 the food i order tastes good.
Health scare didn’t scare me away from Chipotle’s, I just never wanted to pay sit down prices for fast food,
Taco Bell is to Mexican food what bridge is to sports, however I like Taco Bell food
You want good Mexican food? Don’t go to a chain
Love taco bells for years. I never been to moes or never heard of other mexican chains
Taco Bell is WORSE than Chipotle. I love Chipotle. Like my dad says, "Taco Bell is the McDonald's of Mexican." Plus we like Chipotle better than Moe's.
I hate chipotle. I don’t understand why people like that crappy place.
Del Taco, Chipotle, and El Pollo Loco are my favorites!!! I’ve never heard of Torchi’s but want to try them now.
Qdoba is 100x better than Chipotle! The breakfast is also fire! I am SO sad they closed all the stores accessible to me. What are people thinking?! Also, El Pollo Loco did terrible here (Houston, TX).
Qdoba was my go-to Tex-Mex place until all the stores in my area closed.
Except that only Chipotle and Taco Bell are near everyone. The only Moe's I've ever seen was in Atlanta many years ago.
You're right. They are everywhere in Atlanta (metro - several counties), but they are only in Atlanta.
I love the basic Taco Supreme at Taco Bell...and also their basic Bean Burrito and Beef Burrito. The rest of the menu is Frankenstein-ish.
Taco Bell used to have an incredible menu item called the Bellbeefer. It was a soft, cheap hamburger bun with their border sauce, taco beef and classic grated cheddar. To this day its greatly missed and a cult favorite.
What about Rubio's Coastal Grill, there are approx. 160 locations? Not big enough?
They are in Northern LA County (1/2 mile from my house) and other western states. They also make great bowls and other types of tacos/burritos too.
After further research, the Rubios chain is approx. the same size as Baja Fresh (160 units each).
I love Rubios fish tacos.
My favorite will always be Taco Tico. Greatest fast food Mexican chain ever...even if it is basically dead.
My nearest Del Taco is almost 2 hours away. I still find reason to be near it at least 2x a month.
taco johns taco pizza? MY CHILDHOOD
The only item on the menu I've ever liked is the potato oles.
Perhaps Taco Bell for the rest of the US and tacos/Mexican food, here in South Texas tacos have been popular since they were invented.
You are missing Taco Tote. You sure try it. It will jump straight to the top of your list
None of those got me hungry, even with that sweet Texas twang from the narrator... um yeah. For cheap, drive through Tex-Mex, Taco Bueno is better than most, and weren't even mentioned.
I will only eat Del Taco, El Pollo Loco (though the chicken spells funny), and Taco Bell (if desperate). But, the others get a hard pass.
I ate at Del Taco once. Food tasted awful, and made me sick. I missed a week of work. If they're the only place in town, I'll go hungry.
how are you going to rank freaking TACO BELL above chipotle?! Get outta here
I much rather go to taco bell than Chipotle. They got skimmy with their stuff and my taco bell packs the tacos pretty well
Taco 🌮 Bell 🔔 is way better than Chipotle it’s not even a close call.
I really liked el Polo Loco when I lived in Atlanta. They have great grilled chicken if you don't feel like eating "tacos."
Taco Johns fan here. No trip to TJ's is complete without potato oles.
I touched the glass in Moe's and got yelled at.
But...Taco Bell won the fast food wars!
("Demolition Man" fans will get it!)
i swear after the dog food controversy on taco bell they're meat is very good.
Y’all left taco casa off the list???
I thought I was gonna see a bunch of "I hate Taco Bell, I'm better than you" snobs, but I'm glad to see Taco Bell getting some love. I gotta mention though... where's Zantigo's?
Moe's is like the only Mexican Food joint that went out of business here just because it was in the mall.
I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVEEE DEL TACOOOO!!!!!!!!!
What about the sports bars ranked from worst to best?
Maybe it’s because where I live it was there first, maybe it’s because it’s actually better, but I always preferred Qdoba to Chipotle. Ironically there’s a Del Taco right by Qdoba, and I never think to eat there. I gotta break down and try it.
So lucky to live in Southern Colorado. Chipotle is a Denver invention, those of us in parts south are blessed with a plethora of authentic Mexican joints.
You guys always forget about hot head burritos its like chipotle but it can be spicier
Chevy's TexMex rocks it!! Trust this native Houstonian.
Never heard of it. I usually try to stay away from that dump.
@@TV-zn7br Um. You’ve never heard of it, yet you call it a dump. How odd.
@@LyleFrancisDelp talking about Houston. Not the restaurant. I’m sure the food is great
@@TV-zn7br Great TexMex, though.
el pollo has the best fast food chicken PERIOD
love taco johns - had them in S dakota, Iowa and Illinois.
Any “Mexican food” list that includes Taco Bell and Del Taco you already know is BS.
Signed, A Mexican.
Where I live we had a real Mexican restaurant that opened almost a full decade before taco bell ever showed up in our town so it makes me cringe when I hear someone say that taco bell is real Mexican food cuz we now have 12 real Mexican restaurants 🌮😋🌯
Been waiting for Cinco Amigos to open up
Love Moe's pork nachos with queso blanco.
I wish we had Del Taco. We only have Taco Bell
Baja fresh has the best mango salsa I've ever had
Taco bell doesn't have real ground beef and got rid of my beloved enchoritos.
You know it's bad when South Park makes fun of you (hinting at chipotle)
I have to say DEl Taco >> Taco Bell. And I had Qdoba recently. Pretty good.
Yummy el pollo loco!!
I'm frequently a "John" at Taco John's.
Chipotle at the bottom... on a list with Baja Fresh on it? What a joke.
"Taco John" has the most accurate.
Because eating fast food tacos, makes me feel shameful, gross, and a little bit sleepy. Just like an actual "John"
I want Taco Bell so bad right now
No Roberto’s? That would be the most authentic chain fast food on the list if you included it
Taco Bell is actually Tex-Mex. I don’t like Taco Bell as my Mexican grandma taught me how to cook authentic Mexican food.
Where can you get taco in a bag?
If only I could get a real "Taco Truck" to deliver. As for Moe's, I wasn't impressed. The food and the staff looked like they were just putting time in.
Thank you. I love Taco Bell crunchy tacos.
I grew up having Chevy's but they are basically only known in California now
I love taco johns …potatoe Oles are awesome
Nobody mentions Velvet Taco and the other spot that has two goats on it but I think that's more so restaurant than fastfood
It's hilarious how not Mexican Taco Bell is LOL. I mean so much that crunchy shells are not a thing in Mexico🤣
Yes, it is "Mexican American" food. What's wrong with that ?
Bring back Zantigo and their Wednesday Night Specials. 🌮🌮
Taco Cabana is the BEST! Taco Bueno is great too.
How come there is no mention of the big chain Taco Time?
Best bean & cheese burrito: 1.Taco John's! 2. Del Taco (I don't like the taste of Tacobell's beans.
If chipotle made it a buffet they would double their profit
Barstow Del Taco is 🔥
What about Dos Toros or better yet DOS CAMINOS?
Thank you Mexico.😚
Naugles should make a comeback, it was far superior to Del Taco.
You must Live in SoCal My Brother worked at Naugles Back( Moreno Valley) in the early 80 so I got the hook up mmmmm
I Would Rather Take Taco Cabana, than a Taco bell.... Taco Cababa is more closer to Mexican Flavor. The Ratt in Texas. 🐭🐭🐭
W.O.W.
Taco Bueno!!! 🌮🌯🌶😛👍
