some suggestions: try soaking it in buttermilk or non-flavored yogurt instead. considering the taste of wild meat, I'd suggest adding some sage, rosemary, cumin, turmeric, and crushed pine nuts to the milk/yogurt.
The only problem with soaking it in buttermilk is that buttermilk has so much acid that it breaks it down, so it’s almost impossible to handle! I do like your idea of some sage, rosemary and cumin, although rosemary can get a little powerful and soak in human soap, I would be judicious on my addition!
