- July 5, 1991 Chris Saunders and photojournalist Ron Johnson report from the very first Comic Convention at its current location, the San Diego Convention Center. Stick around for bonus video with illustrator Dave Dorman, after Chris disappears into the fifth dimension.
I went to San Diego Comic Con in 1992. There was maybe a thousand people there. Stan Lee was walking around giving random kids high-fives.
The good ole days of comic con before it became movie and cosplay influencer con.
1000000000000% correct, my dude. The good ol' days.
the movie and cosplayers at cons are great too
@@SneakyGreninja nope👎
It’s amazing that at the 2:38 mark you see a concept print of a Predator vs a Xenomorph 14 years before it actually happened!
Well I think Dark Horse comics already started the Alien v Predator comics at that point. Those were some pretty cool comics.
AvP issue #1 was released in 1989.
The first Alien vs. Predator story was published by Dark Horse Comics in Dark Horse Presents #34-36 (November 1989 - February 1990), leading to the popular The Machiko Noguchi Saga, following a woman who joins the hunt of the Predators. I still have that one.
@@stevemuzak8526 I have issues 2 through 4.
It's really cool to see the roots, some of the old footage of the old Comic-Cons.. I don't think they could have created something like that in this time.. it's cool that we still have the conventions, they have changed quite a bit but a leather still love for it
Him pronouncing Mxy's name took me off guard.
I was there !! when it was really just comic dealers and weird stuff .. long gone day s
The good old days!
Dave Dorman!
So quaint
and that was Dave Dorman at the end
holy shit that xeno killshot at the end *chefs kiss*
Awesome video
Wow a Comic-Con where the focus was on actual comics and not whatever dreck DC or Marvel has decided to "Grace" us with or something from the people over at Funko. Now that is a real throwback man.
Hold comics up that say "Amazing Adult Fantasy" on them, then says: "Great stuff to show the kids" 😂😂 just made me giggle
its crazy they had comic con in the 1900s
LOL, "the 1900s", we know old you are. Not everything in life was invented after 2000. One day this crap will happen to you, sooner than you think too, like when you are still under 30.
Casually pulling out a Hulk 180 in the back issue bins 2:07
this is so quaint. a time before exclusive collectables and scalpers. just dudes having a good time.
Fun fact: AvP issue #1 was released in 1989.
A time machine for me... Pleeeeeeease!
0:11 That's Sláine MacRoth ! Brilliant!
Remember when it was about comic books
yeah you wont find a hulk 180 in long boxes nowadays
❤

Carpet!
I went in 1999. Back then you could walk up to the ticket booth and buy a ticket the day of. I met the guy from the second, terrible Crow movie and had my first experience watching some smug neckbeard try to stump some actor about a continuity flaw in something he acted in. Good times.
So, what's the differemce now?
@@thatguynobodywants3716 you cant buy the tickets there anymore. everything is done basically through a lottery system. the rest what hes saying still applies to today though.

Thanks for ruining this event, Stephanie Meyers.
Man! They really killed the comic/nerd scene with left wing politics 😬
Back when liberals were actually good people!
Totally not like Conservatives are taking away women's and minorities rights
