my favorite backhand. when he learns when *not* to cream it, he'll start winning slams. years ago, we thought the one-handers would be gone, but now we have Shapovalov, Thiem, Tsitsipas, Warinka, Dmitrrov, Gasquet, and of course Roger. i think we're in good shape.
Yeah doing not to bad with the guys on your side. Agree with Denis great backhand. Wawrinka has the best at the moment. Wee Richard has weapon of 1 also.
It's so funny looking at this now when we used to play together in Richmond Hill back when we both were around 10 - 12 yrs and were considered a fair match for one another
Lmfao no. I used to play in the Ontario Top 100 U12 and U14 boys back when my parents could afford it, but I ended up quitting after not carring for the sport much.
Is it me or does this shapo guy have like perfect form. I mean besically perfect technical tennis strokes. I d k why more people dont comment about itbecause to me it seems just outstanding. I hope he is no 1 in world for a while. Hes got major talent. Edit:Yes, i see others do notice his amazingly smooth strokes. Perfect technique. Best in the world backhand .With game like that hes not far from beating top 3.
Denis has been playing well on the Davis Cup Finals. He is like unstoppable for the grand final. I believe that he has learned well the biggest lesson he had on Davis Cup from the early year he joined Team Canada.
I want to see Dennis beat either Novak or Rafa, time to step it up, sorry but until he does that, he will not do himself justice, when ever he has the chance he chokes, I just hope he doesn't end up like Medvedev- haven't seen him in a while, hope that Nadal match didn't send him deep in a coma.
Paul Johnson I only read it on the biggest portuguese tennis page, it was after the ATP Finals he said that and also pointed that losing in the 2nd in Paris to Chardy took a hit on his confidence
You can tell he is slowly adjusting to the pro circuit. His forehand used to have such a huge backswing! Like the height of his hand used to be almost past his head. Now it’s more about shoulder height. Hopefully 2021 will be an even better year for this talent🔥
He is playing better and better now! His stokes and body postures look so relaxed and will keep him away from the injury, I believe! A very good model to be copied!
perfect technique. When you have such technique, the 1 hand backhand is more powerful than 2 handed. But to even make this technique viable you need unreal talent level. Making shapovalov 10/10 in the power department and visually pleasing category. More interresting than delpo IMHO
But it doesn't translate well in winning matches- hardly made any against Djokovic in the Paris finals, his game fell apart, and his shots were either missing completely, or too conservative, giving Djokovic a chance to attack and put them away.
@@pauljohnson6019 Its not about winning anymore, its about trying hard, making a nice living off tennis, looking good on TV, making nice sonic booms for the fans. Fuck winning, like the ATP finals Thiem + Tsitsipas match was garbage, this is not good entertainment... Good entertainment is seeing Shapo Lose to Thiem at the Laver cup, with sonic boom winners every 2-3 points. Shapo always brings the sonic booms every match I love the guy.
His mechanics and athleticism are already the best in today's game. I think he needs a coach who can bring some tricks to his game. Someone like McEnroe who could encourage him to be more difficult for his opponent.
I think he has the potential to be top 5 for sure, he’s 20 years old and already ranking 15. The most solid next gen player with Medvedev and Tsitsipas. Time will tell, but his one handed backhand is beautiful
Yet he crumbled like a sack of potatoes against Djokovic in Paris! Playing practice sessions well means nothing, if you can't translate it into winning finals, against top players.
@Paul Johnson practice makes perfect. Sure he crumbled at djokovic at in Paris but let’s take a step back and see what he really accomplished in that tournament. He’s 20 y/o that made it to an ATP 1000 event finals with a tough bracket. Best two former top 10s, Monfils and Fognini. Beat a current top 10 player, Zverev. You are belittling a very successful run at one of the most highly competitive tournaments on the calendar tour. Did I mention also he lost to who is arguably one of the all time greats?
He’s 20..playing against one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. Also, no one has been able to topple the big 3. In any age group. They’re all that good. The only way for any of them to break through is for the big 3 to retire.
True. The player who won the most grand slams for now in men's tennis happens to be the one who is most relaxed in practice and doesn't care if he wins or loses. Coincident, you think??
That one handed backhand and lefty serve is a beauty to be hold !
As a lefty and one hander I agree and this is exactly how I picture my one hander in my mind

Yup great backhand no doubt but he use to much he’s arm, he needs more buddy turn like wawrinka does
What does "cream it" mean?
@@kampchin36 cream it means to hit it as hard as you can like absolutely smash the ball.

Paul Johnson Medvedev had personal issues that were affecting his tennis, he talked about it on a press conference

Nice snap :) this shows the perfect loose feel on solid groundstrokes.
Incredible clean hitting
agree with the previous post on which he's got to learn that sometimes creaming a difficult return doesn't work in top atp matches

It seems to be semi-western on both forehand and backhand sides.
Silas Viveiros Toledo --- Semi western forehand and eastern backhand.
it depends if the ball is low or not.
Why did his hat chang colour at 2:08? lol
