This was a very good video! Nature is highly important to Native Americans. They are guides thru the mysteries of life. They realize all animals are part of this world and consider them as brothers and sister.

I am 99% Indigenous from the Southwest United States. The depictions shown here are not necessarily accurate but I appreciate that you touched on the subject of sacred beings of the indigenous people in the US. Keep in mind that there are currently over 500 different tribes left in the US after the genocide of the Indigenous by the immigrant Europeans that colonized this land. Similar to the People of India, indigenous here had many different deities associated with the Creator. Creator is a duality for many tribes, male and female. Great Mother being very important as life giver, thus many tribes are Matrilineal. Unlike India, makeup does not connote beauty. Pigments /paints used by us are all natural from various plants, and ground earth elements that produce color. Coal is not used as a paint by my People. Maybe other tribes use it, i don’t know. Every tribe has their own religious and sacred beings. Many have lost their traditional teachings as a result of colonization and genocide.

There was a parody line called "Office Gods." We purchased a goddess "Caffiena" who held a stirrer in one hand and a coffee cup in the other. She got superglued to the lid of the coffee carafe. Amazing how many people worshipped her, or made some kind of joke obescence to her. Even Christians who can take a joke. We LOVE our coffee......(I am NOT Christian, myself, but I love this series of gods/goddess reactions!!!)

This video has some demonstrations of some beautiful concepts- that education brought to anyone can make such a difference. Babu has already remembered Loki from previous videos and has co related that coyote is a similar type of figure. What a world of difference exposure can make.
Additionally, his comment that everyone has their own beliefs demonstrates the difference between ignorance and small mindedness.
Really, such an admirable and enjoyable group of people on this channel. :)

I love Babu's intuitive reactions. His description of one God with many representatives is interesting and delightful. I liked the way he compared Coyote with Loki. So many belief systems have a Trickster entity. Anansi the Spider fulfills that role for the Ashanti people.

They mentioned in the name of Manitu. Same force of Universe but two different names. And The great spirit is not a god. The great spirit is the breath and the heartbeat of Universe itself. Wich we all are a physical manifestation of, from the smallest seed to the greatest of forests. From the smallest drop of water to the largest of oceans. From the smallest grain of sand to the highest of mountains. The sun, the moon, the stars, the planets are all the great spirit. No matter what you choose to call it. The great spirit is in all of us and we are all a part of the great spirit

With the Thunderbird this one went already in a direction of something I'd be wishing for - going over from gods to mythical creatures in a similar manner.
Although they could also simply react to videos that list and explain several legendary creatures from specific mythologies. There are plenty of those on UA-cam.
Maybe a list of Celtic mythical creatures first? :D
(Since Celtic _deities_ are - I think - quite complicated...)

White Buffalo Calf wasn't a goddess or a myth, she was a real person, a wandering Shaman or someone who experimented with various forms of plants used as drugs and medicine and new ways to use them, a botanist/chemist and inventor, who was going around sharing her hand-carved pipes & tobacco mixed with other hallucinogenic & psychoactive plants with tribal elders so they could find their spirit guides or just sit around and get high and trip out. They'd all be happy and thank her and she would say "Don't thank me, thank Mother Maka" It was like discovering that smoking a bowl of weed gets you higher faster than making it into a tea and drinking it. Maka was basically Mother Nature and represented by the colour green, you seem to have mixed them up.

No bad, but the Manitou one is supposed to he Gichi Manitou, or Kichi Manto. Manitou is just a general word for spiritual beings in Algonquian religion.
The other one, white Buffalo calf woman, is more formally identified with the name Wohpe & is a messenger spirit between the gods & humans, which is why she is depicted bringing them their sacred rites.

As an aside you can get a general feel for what cultures value by their Gods. The Norse are all very powerful and are all associated with combat and war in some form. Greek Gods are elements of nature and are both wise and unpredictable like nature. Native American Gods are all cunning and tricky, they’re smart, wise and hard to catch. They’re not particularly violent gods nor are they scary or fickle, they’re just tricksters.

Get them to watch the Westminster Toy Group Judging 2024. The little dogs are so cute and pretty. The Westminster Kennel Club has a dog show every year. The dogs are each judged by the standard of their breed. The dog who is the best of it's breed and the best of all breeds wins the entire show.

This doesn't represent any "gods", it's an AI concept where a person types in specific words and an AI gives you an image. The coyote-man is cool looking, something you would find in a comic book, but way off. The coyote was called a shapeshifter because they could disappear into tall grass or wooded areas, they assumed they turned into something else and possibly started out as a fairy tale to entertain children. They can't be compared to Old World concepts of religions or gods like Loki, it wasn't even considered anything like a religion, it was a human attempt to explain and sometimes manipulate the balance of nature and how it works believing the elements like wind and water had consciousness that spoke to animals who would in turn speak to humans in the forms of avatars or spirit guides.
If they watched a video of artwork depicting these entities by actual indigenous artists they would see that animals are represented as exactly that, animals. Each animal is connected to an element of nature, a living representation or extension of that element, a coyote looks like a coyote, a raven looks like a raven and a fish looks like a fish, no human/animal hybrids.

    • @ll7868
      @ll7868 Місяць тому +1

Holy cow, you used an actual comic book image. Other religions get good videos, indigenous North American beliefs are skewed beyond belief, it's no wonder nobody seems to understand us with so much misinformation being passed off as facts.
Manitou is Algonquin originating with the Shawnee people and spread to the Prairie Cree tribes like the Sioux, my people, my Province of Manitoba is named after it, Manitō has no physical representation, no human form with a head dress and bison horns, it's the environment, the water, land, air, trees, animals, people, everything. The sum of all the elements of nature, like a Scientific Theory is comprised of many Scientific Laws.
Also a Fun Fact for fun: "The Algonquin Assassin" Gino Odjick (RIP) of the Vancouver Canucks and pro wrestler "The Wounded Owl" Lu Fisto are Shawnee Algonquin.

The fact that a guy haves the nerve to say that a woman is incomplete in her beauty without makeup is messed up. If you feel we need makeup to look good than you're pretty much telling God that what he created is not perfect. A person's appearance shouldn't be the main focus, it should be the heart. appearances should be an extra. Who are we to judge others simply by looks and what they wear. Next time think of the words you say before you toss them out there..you never know who you might affect
