How to Tie an Inshore Tandem Rig for Artificials

  • Here is an in depth tutorial on how to tie an inshore tandem rig for artificals. This particular rig is great when targeting inshore species such as snook, trout, redfish, pompano and mackerel. I start off by cutting approximately three feet of leader material, the idea is to have your first lure hang about a foot from you main line, and the second lure should hang a foot below the first. I then create a loop in the leader, run my braid through the loop tieing an Alberto knot. The Alberto knot has been around for a long time and is a proven knot when conjoining braid to mono. I then create a loop knot for both of my Mishin Fishin jig heads, the loop knot is a great know for artificals because it does not restrict movement and allows for optimal action. I typically use twenty to thirty pound leader material for this rig.
    I typically don’t like utilizing a swivel because it is just another piece of hardware that can fail and it gives the toothy critters such as mackerel and blue fish a target to bite, and then you end up losing the whole rig. You can use feather jigs, and assortment of soft plastics such as little John’s, DOA shrimp etc… They all work great. The ideal dept for this tandem rig is three to five feet, unless you are using a heavier jig such as Doc’s goofy jigs around structure for pompano. I prefer a nice medium fast rod for good jigging action, plus it’s easy in the arm and wrist when jigging for longer periods of time. If you enjoyed this fishing rig tutorial, please give a thumbs up, subscribe and leave a comment. Thank you!

    Thank you for sharing this. Your instructions were easy to follow. This rig has given me a couple of ideas. As shown here will work for surf Perch too I believe and will try this using flukes for bass as well. :)

    Great tutorial Josh, gonna give this rig a try. That Alberto knot looks like a good knot, think I'm gonna start using it exclusively in place of swivels.

    Good tutorial. Wondering if I can drop 2 speed jigs as I am jigging deep with this. Probably not, but hmm. Tight Lines.

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  7 років тому +1

      Thank you, honestly it wouldn't hurt to try. Maybe give a little larger gap in between the jigs for better results.

    • @KayakFrank
      @KayakFrank 7 років тому +1

      Yep. Why not. The extra length on the gap sounds like a plan. I guess so long as they are the speed jig type, it should work. Also no trebles on the bottom. Now we got two times the trouble. ✌️

    3' cut mono : Tie 1 jig with a surgeon's loop-- come up 8" -10" tie another plain surgeon's loop---go down 20 inches are so, and tie the last jig with a surgeon's loop also... done. You can attach the whole thing to your braid line with a small Duo Snap connected to the surgeon's loop.

      Joshua Taylor , how would you uni to uni knot this rig? Ever since i learned the Uni knot its pretty much the only knot i use, i even use it to snell hooks. Still curious on how you could Uni knot this rig. I love your channel & also a subscriber. Keep up the awesome work.

    I'm very new to fishing so, this may be a dumb question. How would one retrieve this set up? If you answer this please remember I am very new to this

    • @HolyPlague1
      @HolyPlague1 7 років тому +1

      Also do have a tutorial on the different types of retrieves?

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  7 років тому +1

      Hey C.P the only dumb question is the one never asked. I like to allow it to sink and jig it back to me using different speeds. Try jerking it a few times and allowing it to fall to the bottom with a short pause. If the fish are pursuing aggressively, try and rapid steady jerk all the way back to the boat.

    Capt Josh ..Your intension is honorable but the results are disasterous . Think like a photographer..Light against dark, dark against light . The background is much too busy. We cannot appreciate your effort ..Use yellow /black ,,blue/orange ..It’s difficult to visualize your work
