How to Tie an Inshore Tandem Rig for Artificials

- Here is an in depth tutorial on how to tie an inshore tandem rig for artificals. This particular rig is great when targeting inshore species such as snook, trout, redfish, pompano and mackerel. I start off by cutting approximately three feet of leader material, the idea is to have your first lure hang about a foot from you main line, and the second lure should hang a foot below the first. I then create a loop in the leader, run my braid through the loop tieing an Alberto knot. The Alberto knot has been around for a long time and is a proven knot when conjoining braid to mono. I then create a loop knot for both of my Mishin Fishin jig heads, the loop knot is a great know for artificals because it does not restrict movement and allows for optimal action. I typically use twenty to thirty pound leader material for this rig.
I typically don’t like utilizing a swivel because it is just another piece of hardware that can fail and it gives the toothy critters such as mackerel and blue fish a target to bite, and then you end up losing the whole rig. You can use feather jigs, and assortment of soft plastics such as little John’s, DOA shrimp etc… They all work great. The ideal dept for this tandem rig is three to five feet, unless you are using a heavier jig such as Doc’s goofy jigs around structure for pompano. I prefer a nice medium fast rod for good jigging action, plus it’s easy in the arm and wrist when jigging for longer periods of time. Best fishing tutorials on UA-cam hands down!
Thank you sir, glad you liked it!
Thank you for sharing this. Your instructions were easy to follow. This rig has given me a couple of ideas. As shown here will work for surf Perch too I believe and will try this using flukes for bass as well. :)
Great tutorial Josh, gonna give this rig a try. That Alberto knot looks like a good knot, think I'm gonna start using it exclusively in place of swivels.
+steve norman It's a great knot that has a proven track record.
Awesome Joshua !!
I will have to definitely give this a try !!! Looks like it would make a great rig for flounder !!!
Great rig for flounder and I use it a lot for Pompano.
Great video work ,and simple. Thanks hope to see more
Nice rig. I'd love to see a knot show. That Alberto knot looks sweet im going to try it. You made that other one look easy also!!
Thanks for the suggestion Big O, they are simple with a little practice.
A little old of a comment but that looks like it would be good for Fluke as well. I'll have to try it.Good video!
Great video! Trying this out this weekend!
Thank you Gloria, good luck out there!
Nice guide man.
Glad it helped
Thanks for the tips keep on coming.
Will do
Thank you for the video, it looks pretty easy!
+Stephanie Taylor You're welcome, thanks for watching.
Very well explained.", great video
Thanks Marco!
Very nice option; when would you add a weight & where, do you do a retrieve or jig up & down with this set up?
very hard to see what exactly u were doing cause of the sunlight...maybe use oversized string for informational purposes...
Thanks for the feedback Brad
great video man!
Great Video, Josh! 💯💯
Thanks Chris!
very good tutorial👍
Thank you bud!
Good tutorial. Wondering if I can drop 2 speed jigs as I am jigging deep with this. Probably not, but hmm. Tight Lines.
Thank you, honestly it wouldn't hurt to try. Maybe give a little larger gap in between the jigs for better results.
Yep. Why not. The extra length on the gap sounds like a plan. I guess so long as they are the speed jig type, it should work. Also no trebles on the bottom. Now we got two times the trouble. ✌️
Great video. Very easy to follow along. Question...I plan to use this setup for Spanish Mackerel. Would you recommend an egg sinker? Thanks!
Sweet!!! Thanks!!!
3' cut mono : Tie 1 jig with a surgeon's loop-- come up 8" -10" tie another plain surgeon's loop---go down 20 inches are so, and tie the last jig with a surgeon's loop also... done. You can attach the whole thing to your braid line with a small Duo Snap connected to the surgeon's loop.
Can you use an Alberto knot with floro leader to mono main line?
Do you recommend this rig for double fluke rigging Stripers? Also what pliers were you using bro, are they crimping / split ring pliers?
cool vid
+Fishing Channel Thank you
Nice video, do you like the Alberto over the uni to uni?
I would choose the Uni over the Alberto personally.
Joshua Taylor , how would you uni to uni knot this rig? Ever since i learned the Uni knot its pretty much the only knot i use, i even use it to snell hooks. Still curious on how you could Uni knot this rig. I love your channel & also a subscriber. Keep up the awesome work.
Ok thanks I'll give it a look

I'm very new to fishing so, this may be a dumb question. How would one retrieve this set up? If you answer this please remember I am very new to this
Also do have a tutorial on the different types of retrieves?
Hey C.P the only dumb question is the one never asked. I like to allow it to sink and jig it back to me using different speeds. Try jerking it a few times and allowing it to fall to the bottom with a short pause. If the fish are pursuing aggressively, try and rapid steady jerk all the way back to the boat.
Not currently but I will take note of your suggestion for a possible future tutorial. Keep watching and please hit that subscribe button. ;)
Already subscribe. Love the videos. Keep it up.
I like
is it good for any fresh water fish?
DJ FISHING maybe 2 senkos like this with just hooks for bass.....maybe crappie too
Absolutely, especially effective with two flukes.
I am new to saltwater fishing what do you think is a good and affordable rod and reel for jack and snook
Hello Baylor, what kind of budget are we talking about?
You can get a penn spinfisher 4000 combo pretty cheap and they're very versatile. Do a 7' or 8'
This is like, the most difficult way of doing something that is really easy.
I never said everyone was equally capable. ;)
$100 to $200 range
I would go with a Penn battle and St. Croix Mojo rod for about $200.00.
They tangle that way.
All tandem rigs tangle at some point or another.
Joshua Taylor
Not if you use a swivel.
Capt Josh ..Your intension is honorable but the results are disasterous . Think like a photographer..Light against dark, dark against light . The background is much too busy. We cannot appreciate your effort ..Use yellow /black ,,blue/orange ..It’s difficult to visualize your work
Appreciate the feedback but you can't speak for everyone, most actually appreciated and enjoyed the tutorial. Hence the great like ratio. 👍
