@@ZabbezOriginal I looked for a Knittax machine online but I think they are pretty rare. I just ordered a Brother KH588 instead. The fair isle is done in a similar way to the Knittax (I think) but there is a push button mechanism to select the needles. I have used punchcard machines, but I think I prefer doing things a little more manually. Otherwise, it is a little boring to me to just just the carriage back and forth as for plain stocking stitch while the machine does all the technical stuff. The push-button machine seems like a good compromise.
@@KarlSmith-p5r Push button machines are great. I don't own one (yet), but they seem a lot of fun to me too. I am sure it is going to be a lot of fun knitting on your new machine! 😀
Your videos are very explicit, didactic and seem to be made them with so much love. I have tried to make my socks in a LK150. Thank you for your time.❤
You are such a master instructor Bas. I love your tutorials so much I now have a passap and a Knitax. I have knit on Japanese machines for many years but this is so much fun 🤩
I'm from Korea. I've knitted for a long time, but I got to know the knitting machine these days, and I got to know Zabbez while I was looking for UA-cam. Thank you for your easy explanation of knitting socks. I look forward to your many works in the future. But it's a shame that the Knittax knitting machine is not available in Korea.
Thank you, happy you like them! And a checkered pattern is very doable on this machine. I have a lot of other video's planned for my channel, but I will definitely keep it in mind, thank you! 😀
I love this video! I have a passap goldy that I’m gonna get back out and give this a try. I subscribed, and I’m gonna look for a video making a hat on this machine. If I can’t find one…… Good idea for a new video! Thank you.
Thank you so much! The Passap Goldy is very suitable to knit this kind of socks on. It will be a lot of fun. And for a hat video, check out the playlist on my channel 👍🏻
Very good instructional video. You are an excellent presenter and your camera work is really good. Your English is so good - I wish I could speak Dutch as well as you speak English. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge. 🇨🇦
I'm totally a beginner, I had an idea how it works, but since I don't know the vocabulary of those knitting I didn't know what you were saying, but If I learn the vocabulary about the knitting machine , probably it would more clear to me. and easy to understand what you were saying
I enjoy watching your tutorials, I guess you can apply what you did in this video to any manually operated knitting machine, I only have a bond knitting machine which I enjoy using. Thank you for sharing your video. Cheers from Tasmania!
Thank you so much, and yes, you can apply these techniques to most manually operated knitting machines. The bond machine is a great machine too and you can knit almost everything on it 😀
@@ZabbezOriginal thank you for a reply, I have knitted socks on it, the pattern came with the bond, it didn't turn out as nice as yours though, but I'll revisit the pattern again, however, I'll try your way also. Cheers from Tasmania!
Hoyy Bas. I really like your video, and I learn all the time about 'our' knitting machine ;-) I don¨t have a ribber, so I have to use the 'fake' ribbing, but what size do you use? my guess is about a 46.....
Fake ribbing also yields a beautiful result 👍🏻 And yes, I am knitting size 46/47 in the video. I am a tall guy with big feet so a lot of rows to knit 🤣
Hi Zabbez. Thanks for the great video! Is there a reason why you did not take the right and left side stitches off to waste yarn after the ribbing? This would allow you to knit the back of the leg and seam as you go exactly like you did the bottom of the foot. ************** Another question is whether you have ever tried to make a left sock and a right sock. My feet are not very symmetric!
It all comes down to personal preference. You could totally do it that way by taking it off on waste yarn right after the ribbing. I know many people who do it that way too. Personally I have not made asymmetrical socks, as I find the stretch in the fabric is enough to accommodate any shaping. But again, this is personal preference and you could totally do that. The great thing about knitting machines is that you can completely customize it to your liking. A lot of fun!
Ein schönes Video. Socken lassen sich sehr gut nachstricken. Leider ist das Zusammennähen am Ende etwas kurz und dadurch schlecht zu sehen, um schöne Nähte für Anfänger hinzubekommen.
Thank you so much! Socks are a lot of fun to knit on a knitting machine. Sewing socks together can be done on several different ways. Maybe I will make an extra video about it in the future if I have the time 👍🏻😀
Thank you so much, I am happy to hear that. Yes, this technique also works on other machines as well. That is the great thing about knitting on a simple machine, you get the basics you can use on most other machines too. This technique will work on Brother/Singer/Superba/Bosch/Phildar/White etc. Will not work on the Passap however as that machine uses pushers for short rowing, but I have a different video for knitting socks on that machine 😀
A very interesting video and machine. I found an mid-80s Knit King on Freecycle and love learning about flat bed knitting. Unfortunately, mine has no ribber but that's ok. I would like to see the "sinker" mechanism. How does it work?
Without the ribber you can still knit almost everything. Great machines. I talk about this machine and the sinker mechanism in this video: ua-cam.com/video/UnWodotw75A/v-deo.htmlsi=33JouQPpN0jm9h68
Sadly I do not have a double bed machine. I only have a brother 891 .. otherwise I would try your instruction for sure =D really good video, thanks anyways!!
I have two of these machines, actually slightly older I think as they are the Knitking 4500 series, not the M1, and 1 ribber. they are great in that they don't need clamps or weights so a lot more portable that the newer machines. only thing that worries me about using them is if I break a needle or sinker as replacement parts are impossible to find (unless you find and buy a whole new machine of course) is there a link to the pattern you used. I think I already have one but..... can we have too many patterns? LOL
You are right. The only thing to do is buy another machine for spare parts. But when you use your machine with love, they hardly ever break. I hope it all works out for your! 😀
Thank you so much! The sweater I am wearing is based on the famous Norwegian Marius sweater. But I tweaked the design to make it easier to knit on a knitting machine. It was a lot of fun to knit 😀
I have a Brother machine from the mid-80s but haven't used it in years. i had no idea you could seam as you go. The seams looks very good. What kind of seam do you use to close up the back? This looks way faster than knitting socks by hand, although it isn't as portable. :)
Haha true, it is not as portable as hand knitting 🤣 But a lot of fun! For the back seam I use the common mattress stitch, nothing special. The seam has a little bulk, but is hardly noticeable when done in the ribbing. Time to start using your mid-80s brother again maybe??? 😀
True but there are lots of videos around about how to hand manipulate ribbing and it wasn't necessary for this video. It really would be better as a video all its own
Good tutorial! I didn't know the wrap wasn't needed when short rowing back out. The only sock tutorial I had previously found for this machine was ua-cam.com/video/9P4hc4oKWHk/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ViviCrafts
Thank you very much. There are many ways to knit socks on this machine. This is just my preferred method. You can also wrap short rowing out. Or not wrap short rowing in, but only wrap short rowing out. Or don't wrap at all. All yield different results 😀
I don’t know why I enjoy your videos so much when I don’t have a knitting machine and can barely even knit with needles
I am really glad you enjoy watching my video's, and somehow this makes me even more happy 🤣
