TOURÉ ROBERTS | The Power of NO

  • As a wife, mother, and entrepreneur, Dairy Reeves, like many of us, wears several hats that come with a mountain of competing priorities. In an effort to see through the values that were instilled in her from a very young age, Dairy’s caring nature and intentionality with meeting the needs of others eventually turned into people-pleasing, a hard time establishing boundaries, and sacrificing her own needs. Over time, she began finding value in being needed and feeling useful. Dairy’s biggest, daily challenge is saying no without guilt and deciphering between a good thing to do and the thing God needs her to do.
In this perspective-shifting conversation, Touré Roberts (author of Wholeness, Purpose Awakening, and Balance) and Dairy apply principles from BALANCE that explore the value of our Yes and show how self-prioritization, a healthy No to Yes Ratio, and being self-full ultimately position us for bringing our BEST self to everyone and everything!

So good I was a people pleaser all of my life. I cut that last year, I am at peace, my mental health is peaceful and I am thriving for me like I should have been doing A LONG time ago!

I love Gods timing. I was doing some reading today and the book talked about how we cannot define ourselves based of our fears. My greatest fear has always been losing the people that I care about. The book said “your fear ISNT you, it is something you have experienced.” That hit me because as a result of losing a lot of family early in my life, I have thought in order to feel whole again people are what I need. People are a blessing but they are not meant to be our everything. I told myself if people are what you are afraid to lose the most then maybe you need to lose them. I am currently in a transforming time in my life. I have recently let go of so many relationships that were not pointing me to Christ. I began to ask myself why do i NEED these people. It had more to do with filling a void within. There’s this song called “All I Have Is Christ”. I love this song and have been listening to it for years. when i sing it now hallelujah all i have is Christ, there is a new meaning. I am filled with the spirit, with peace, all because i finally decided to let go of people and let God. Trust in Him always. Even when you feel alone I promise you are not. I love you Jesus ❤️

The best version of "me". That does not always equate to the best version of what people want me to be.

The power of “NO”. People think you are mean when you say “no”. I learned that you can’t pour from an empty cup. Self care first.

I literally prayed an hour ago for God to help me set healthy boundaries for a specific situation. To be able to say no or not doing things and not feeling bad or guilty. And also to know when it's okay to say yes. And this videos came up. But God!

This is needed truly PT . Because if you go around saving everyone people will expect you to always save them. Then you become depleted and you become a financial idol to them. You become they're savior and we're only messengers not the messiah. Book for thought, "When Helping you is Killing me" Learning to say no holds power over keeping yourself sane. Cause people will make their EMERGENCY YOUR EMERGENCY.

No is necessary so we can focus on our mission. We can only truly be good at one or two things that we focus on.

Choosing to disappoint ourselves rather than others is not a good form of self care. We must be ok with telling people No, so that in the things and with the people we give our Yes to, we can give 100percent

This is me. I actually let go of this , this year; it drained me so much even though it was hard to say no. I would say yes and I still would do it and was so depressed and tired never motivated in life and I lost myself and forgot who I was because I focused my life to just saying yes to everyone and never no. But I'm happy to say I am free !! And I have so much hope in life and getting to find myself it's an amazing experience

Wow!!!!!!! I have been extremely depressed and even suicidal because of the poisonous of YES. Yes has caused me my peace, pain, suffering, self sabotaging and loathing. Thanks for this message. I just called the Suicide prevention hotline yesterday because I felt extremely numb from ALWAYS doing and never were being done for. If I even say no, I get attacked and questioned.

@@lj8708 We are in this fight together. I will pray for you too. It is unfortunate that people gravitate to us just to use and abuse us then enjoy seeing that they have stripped us naked, leaving us shivering, confused and feeling worthless. Thanks to God that even while naked, we are clothed my Gods Love, grace and mercy. He will continue to protect us even when we are on the battlefield with these narcissistic and nonchalant people that we are either in a family with, have to work with, and even praise with. But even that can be extremely hard to grasp when being in the darkness. Most people today are a big question. I say that either I am alien and they are human or they are an alien and I am human because I just don’t feel relatable to many people at all.
