I think people talking about how it’s concerning for a new game to have bans kinda miss the modern card game landscape. This isn’t first set YGO, Classic Hearthstone, or Early MTG as players have gotten both better at finding the best decks as well as wanting more complexity out of their games in an increasingly competitive market. I also wonder how many of the people well, play the game when they complain about ban list size/frequency/prehits (You can print a card and then realize it needs a hit because it’s limiting design space, but that doesn’t mean it was printed to be banned or that it’s printing had no purpose in the first place). To me, it’s nice to see the devs care, communicate, and seem receptive to feedback as the goal for these bans is for players to have fun with a “health of the meta hits” rather than “No you must play the game OUR way” hits.
It's definitely something to be respected. Elestrals is attempting to compete with the other big games on the market, releasing sets at a similar pace. Even if the sets could be properly tested and adjusted before release, the pace makes that difficult with the production line. Being on top of things with a banlist is honestly respectable for the niche they're aiming for. They wanna keep the card pool growing, and the game healthy. At this fast pace, that's impossible without stuff slipping through the cracks. Heck, they've even adjusted their design ethos as the game develops! I'm a big fan of the "Flavor" bans as they tighten their design.

Exact opposite really. The devs had the benefit of watching other games and their history. The devs had plenty of time to play test. The first three sets should be the most balanced in the games history. It should get chaotic from there. Some of the hits are obvious to me and I've only started playing a month ago. There are inherent design philosophies in the game and they are going to start showing up more and more.
Put another way: Do you REALLY want to lose to Tron for umpteen years in a row or would you rather WOTC ban the fucking lands so they don't break every seven mana card that gets released until ~~the end of time~~ TOR gets printed?

But if a l̶e̶v̶e̶l̶ ̶1̶ ̶f̶i̶r̶e̶ deck sticks around for longer, things really get stale regardless. So a temp hit to make sure this format does rotate for the next two months will likely be very healthy for it's competitive playerbase.
I never realized how rough I had it as a YGO fan before seeing them give actual reasons for a ban and their priorities for the game and going, "wow, this is so nice."
A temporary limit happened in English One Piece, where they banned White Beard as a leader, and searcher Nami literally until the end of the next big tournament. The Nami unban pretty much had to happen cause the Worst Generation premium starter deck was coming out and had 4 of them in the deck.
I think it's a "Critical Mass" issue with Thunder. Pretty much all the consistency pieces and removal are focused in the color, meaning other decks need to hurt themselves to include them, and pure Thunder just gets to run around uneffected. They're fixing the issue progressively for sure, but the OGs are still pretty nuts, so limiting Thunder's inherent power to be more in line with the rest makes sense.
I will say that the one piece TCG did something like the temp hits. During set 4 bandai dropped a banlist that completely crippled most red decks, it also happened to ban cards that were getting reprints in the next starter deck. So people yelled at bandai over the list and not too much later did they announce that they would revoke the changes once the next set was released.
I think at the end of the day Base Set was the raw dog set where it had to be engaging with powerful cards and now that we're growing the base set's power is becoming more prevalent and I wouldn't be shocked if most of base set phases out entirely

Full Moon is a Counter that allows you to enchant 2 Lunar to any Elestral on your field. The strategy involves runing 3 Werepup to find Full Moon, and defensive cards like Astrabbit or otherwise to Full Moon them and Ascend into one of the 3 Pharogeist you drew into. Its a very turbo oriented strategy with minimal counter play that is more threatening with EQ and ROYL limited to 1. Pharogeist can still be a threat but its consistency will now be predicated on komalice searching it, opening for more counter play opps for the opponent
couldnt be more confused. My recommended took me from an ace attorney playthrough of mainblametarget to him playing some non yugioh card game and it seems to feature the screaming-clickbait-shinyhunting streamer.

I don't understand hitting cards two months in advance for the next set, wouldn't it make more sense to do it when the set drops? EDIT: yeah they literally did it for the divines (in reverse but still does it matter?), why not for geist too?
Pharogeist wasn't really played at all right now in the current landscape and I feel confident that limiting to 1 is the best choice of the game with the card pool we have (important to note that when we made and tested Pharogeist, EQ and Laurels were 3x.) Id rather just rip the bandaid off now and stay hands off until approx April 1st if needed. -aDrive
Hopefully A-Drive eventually bites the bullet and implements a rotating format a few years down the road. Ban lists are fantastic to fix problem cards but people will eventually wanna play full power and an Eternal format is best for that, without hitting Yu-Gi-Oh's problem of needing to power creep every year to let new cards see play.
