What I love about this one, and why I ordered one, is the colors, shiny chrome and the fact that its die cast make it closest in resemblance to the original Matchbox one. The cool articulation is like the icing on the cake.

@@KoolKollectibles One of several reasons I think this one reminds me of the OG matchbox the most is partially due to the size of the chest plate symbol. The one on the Toynami one is kinda small.

Fellow collector you do realize the abdomen in Voltron mode expands correct? Pull up to expand which helps with the proportions and also the lion arms expand pull down on each which provides 90 degree action.
+David Lenshyn Didn't know about the elbows extending so thanks for that tip! But the torso is not meant to extend in robot mode. It's only meant to be extended in lion mode and pushed in for robot mode.

Thats the best Voltron figure I've ever seen so far! He looks damn nice and thight! I really want this one, but the 300$ is a bit much for me right now :P It seems like that price is really worth it though. I meen... Its freakin' Voltron LOL! Great review, buddy! I need to see if there is something that I can do without and spend my money on this one instead :D
Definitely worth the money. I sold my Toynami last year in preparation for this, so that helped.
The problem is that I don't have anything that I really want to sell LOL! Unless someone wants to buy my MP-05, Apollyon and a couple of voyager class movie TF figures, but I don't think that anyone would want those, hahaha!

Hey Cool, I was wondering how has this held up over the years? I've heard people had issues with the Chrome hinges on the shoulders breaking!
I was changing mine up the other day. The hinges on mine seem ok.
Did you see the BLITZWAY STUDIOS Voltron? And the Three Zero Voltron? WOW! The BLITZWAY is definitely out of the question for me since it's like 900$ and the Three Zero is more affordable only problem is it's not much Different from the Gx Bandai
@@christisrisen6774 Yeah, the blitzway version looks fantastic, but I'll pass on that and the ThreeZero version. This SoC version will be enough for me in my collection.

You didn’t push the head down in your thumbnail. the neck isn’t supposed to be so visible and jarring like that.
Strange, all videos I've seen look the same. It might just be the angle of the photograph. I can't see any way to push the head lower.
Ah right, I just saw a video where they suggest you can push the entire head down slightly. Not sure it makes much of a difference. I think you're the first to point it out. Thanks for the tip though!
i was also thinking about getting the mmpr soc but damn these things are so expensive. Do you know by chance how many are produced? By the way you were talking about it, they seem to sell out fast. It would be my first soc, thanks for the vid. i look forward to your other reviews.
+John Sanchez Yeah these are expensive for sure but the quality is great. Not sure how many are made but the usual Japanese retailers all had their preorders sellout. So I got it from bbts which is a bit more expensive but at least I was able to get one. Thanks for watching! :)
How to take off the arms to bring it back to lion mode?
You just pull them out. The instruction manual indicates that the tail may come off the red/geen lion when pulling out, so you then just pull the tail out of the black lion if they do come off.
Hey just wanted to know if all the chrome legs from foot to the top are plastic or diecast or even on the black lion?
I think they're plastic not diecast. Most of the diecast is in the joints.

@@kkcc6716 Too hard to choose based on quality. They are both equally great figures quality wise. If I had to chose based on nostalgia, I'd pick the Lion Force version since I watched that cartoon more as a kid.
The original Toynami set was quite impressive, when they re released with electronics it was a disappointment.Yet this is the real deal, no matter what you follow beast king Golion or Voltron this is the best set EVER.
Yep, without a doubt the definitive Voltron, and likely to be that for many years to come! Hopefully they do a Vehicle Voltron / Dairugger one day!

@alienrefugee51, hopefully they do! These GX SoC releases seem only a small number each year, so it could be a while before they do one!
They did announce and release this GX-71 in a short window though. Took only 6 months to get to retailers, though I'm sure it was obviously already in the works upon the official announcement. Fingers crossed. I wasn't a huge Dairugger fan as a kid, but as a first time SOC buyer, if the quality is this good why not have a piece of history?
Exactly my thinking! If they released a Dairugger, I would want it just to have the definitive version in the collection lol!

2 years late but I’m interested in picking up this figure.. I guess it’s a great time to ask though: has the die cast on this rusted at all? I had the mp-05 masterpiece Megatron and in less than a year the die cast feet rusted. Perhaps it was how I stored him but I have a fairly climate controlled house.
I had a quick look at mine the other day. Still looks brand new to me, but I don't play around with it too much. It's just displayed in my cabinet.

I thought about it. But the price is too high, especially since I already have this SoC version. If I didn't have the SoC version I might have gone with the blitzway, but I'll just settle with the SoC I think.
@@KoolKollectibles since u know a lot about toys, do u think its going to be better than the SOC. I have the SOC too but am thinking about the blitzway. I think its supposed to be bigger and heavier
@@kkcc3916 The new Blitzway figure I think will definitely be better than the SoC. But it should be considering it's more than 3 times the retail price of the SoC! It's larger, has more electronic features, more articulation, more accessories, and better cartoon aesthetics. I would love to get it myself, but with the collection room pretty maxed out, I need to be pretty selective in what I add to the collection these days.

Bandai won't have a problem with vehicle Voltron if they they stick to the original Dairugger XV name.

The long spear thing is definitely called the Solar Spear. Not sure what the Electro Saber is. Unless they mean the Blazing Sword?

+Mark Kruger The Toynami EX is larger, but has a different style aesthetic. Not sure if it uses diecast either? I think if you're after the perfect 80s cartoon version, then this soul of chogokin is the one to get. Bandai SoC really are the masters of diecast robots.

You mean changing it back to the separate lions? I haven't bothered doing that because I display it in Voltron mode. I assume you just go in reverse lol

Figure seems nice but just something about his face seems off to me. Quite can't pinpoint what it is.

Actually I think its not the face that's the problem, its the part that's underneath his chin (the grey part) that isn't all filled in that seems a bit off putting to me.
Ah I see. It's not too noticeable in hand. That gap is needed for movement and for the lion mouth etc.
I find it odd that they called it the GX-71 Voltron and not the GX-71 GoLion...maybe it's an American Release thing? or maybe the folks in japan are W E I R D.
If you bought it in Japan, the box has the correct GoLion name in Japanese. If you bought it in the USA, the box comes with an outer slip cover that has the English Voltron name, so they covered the best of both.
Am I the only person that is mad that the bodies are all plastic I would have rather had plastic legs and diecast body this is a plastic action figure so dissapointing Idc if its bandai soc its 90% plastic
+Kenneth Moore I'm glad the bodies aren't diecast. Bandai design these for longevity, so with diecast and plastic in the right places this will last a very long time. Unlike the toynami that had diecast bodies and plastic joints and the whole thing was too heavy.
The POP vinyl one is better.

There is absolutely no way the Toynami 30th Anniversary one is better than this new SoC Voltron. This Bandai version beats that in every possible way. I had the 30th Anniversary version, and am definitely glad I sold that one to make room for this SoC one!
