  • My 2001 Isuzu Rodeo started making a high-pitched whining noise that was directly proportional to the engine speed. After doing some investigating, I realized that the noise was coming from the transmission fluid pump.
I was afraid that the transmission may be damaged, but I decided to try draining the transmission fluid, changing the filter, and putting in new transmission fluid. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the noise was completely gone after doing this, and the vehicle drove normally.
If you hear a similar whine from your vehicle, I would suggest that you change the transmission fluid and filter as soon as possible. It may not solve the problem, but ignoring it will definitely lead to damage if it has not already occurred.
FYI: This video replaces an earlier version of the same video in which the background music played through the clip of the transmission whine, making it difficult to hear. My previous Windows 7 PC that I used for video editing died, and I had to get a new Windows 10 PC, which does not include Windows Movie Maker, so when I made the previous version of this video, I had a difficult time editing it. I finally figured out how to separate the background music from the clip with the transmission whine. I apologize for the frustration that the previous version of this video caused. Hopefully this version is much more helpful.
