This is a pretty good tutorial. A few things are missing, like how a Pokémon can use its ability (if it has one) and its attack on the same turn or that you can also win if your opponent's deck has no more cards in it. But all in all, it's a pretty good grasp of how cards work and how the game flows. I used to play the TCG casually by attending local meet-ups at game stores, where we'd come and battle, trade and shop for new cards. Now, I have switched to just collecting, but maybe one day, I'll return to battling again.
Im playing the videogames for 25 years now and started to go in the TCG world this year. Now I know where the quality is gone to 😄 that video is great!
I am a long time Magic player. And I only learned Pokemon about 2 years ago. Its very straightforward. It can be very unfair and one sided, theres little interaction (i.e instants), and theres some luck involved (it has coin flips in it) Overall its not a bad card game. Its hard to be as good as Magic after all lol. But its a good starter TCG for younger players to get into if Magic or YugiOh is too intimidating.

Starting with Pokemon Tcgl is so good if you want to experience the entire tcg game. It's very f2p friendly with the amount of starter decks they offer. I started during the Roaring moon season. While i didn't have any "meta" deck i played enough to climb through some ranks and earn some free season pass rewards. The rank rewards that i got at the end of the competitive season allowed me to make my first "meta" deck during that time and a fun Garchomp/Tyranitar ex decks.
TMW Worlds 2024 comes to your home state and you've never played a single Pokemon TCG tournament but wanting to learn for a shot at the Worlds Playmat in one of the side events lol Yes that scenario is me right now
fwiw, ptcg puts cards "out of rotation" once a year. this means older cards are no longer legal in the standard format. the last of the sword and shield era, for example, is "rotating out" in march/april of this upcoming year, meaning only cards from the scarlet and violet era will be legal. playing the game on tcg live is also entirely free (theres not even microtransactions), and if you want to build a deck irl, buying single cards online is actually pretty affordable (especially compared to other tcgs)!
@@monster3339 I can confirm this as someone who got into the tcg a couple months ago, with a meta deck (guardevoir EX) costing me $30-40, compared to other card games costing hundreds for a good deck.
I feel like the tutorial should've specified that you need the Pokémon you intend to evolve into, in your hand. At 3:03, when you start talking about evolving Pokémon, the Pawni being evolved into Pawno just sort of happens, with no mention of if you can evolve with only the cards you have in your hand or the deck. Unless you can evolve using cards from your deck, I'm not sure since I'm new to the TCG, but this part was a bit confusing to me and it could have been a little more clear.
You can only evolve a Pokémon if you have the evolution of that card in your hand. There are cases where some trainer cards, abilities, and a Pokémon’s attacking move effect can allow the player to search your deck for the evolution card and put it into your hand or evolve the basic Pokémon immediately.
You can make your own deck from the cards and packs that own, or you can use decks that other people have made and posted online. If you are just playing with friends, try making your own deck with your favorite pokemon!
You can pick and choose the specific cards you want in your deck. The restrictions for building a deck are as follows: exactly 60 cards, at least one basic Pokémon, and no more than 4 copies of a card with the same name. Basic energy cards are the one exception to the no more than 4 rule. Also, Pokémon ex are considered to have a different name than their normal non-ex counterparts. This means that you can run 4 Pikachu and 4 Pikachu ex if you wanted. The whole idea is that you want to build your deck around a specific strategy, and only use cards that contribute to that strategy.
If you go into stores like Target or Wal-Mart, you'll usually see Battle Decks on sale. If you don't own any cards or have a low amount to work with, then these can be great starter vehicles for beginners! If there are specific pokemon you want to play with, I'd suggest visiting your local card shop(if you have one) or order cards online from websites like CoreTCG or TCGplayer.
I have a lot of physical cards for Pokémon TCG but somehow out of all of them NOT A SINGLE ENERGY CARD and I can't find them anywhere i just need energy cards to be able to play
