This started all of the new wave, alternative rock and pure Rock and Roll. Roxy Music deserves their place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
Brian Eno on Synth …. 1971 and I was 13 - Roxy Music kick started my lifelong love of music - there had been NOTHING like this before Roxy. Their early albums were cool as f*ck
Circa 79, Jerry Hall. Cocktail dresses at the ready. Tiger tails. Thin ties and dance. Synthesiser and bass. Along with zep at thier finest, Roxy were pure joy Every chat up line and film noir together. X
My sis was a huge Roxy fan I woke up to this song every morning from the little record player she had by the side of her bed in our shared bedroom for months until she could afford another.
The blond guy who played the synth was Brian Eno who went on to do solo work ("Here Come the Warm Jets" great album) and worked with David Byrne and The Talking Heads. This song is from a movie called "Velvet Goldmine" which deals with the Glam Era and the story behind David Bowie and Iggy Pop working together.
@@vambo13257 The song was in the movie which dealt with music and personalities of the 1970s. I did not say that the song came out at the same time as the movie. It was used in the soundtrack.
I'm lucky enough to have followed Roxy from day 1..there were loads of us that use to dress 'ROXY' no matter What style they used..we use to get pushed around when we were out cos we were different..but we just cracked on.ive seen Roxy and Bryan at almost every gig they've done..They are playing Glastonbury in 2023.. I'll be there with all my old Roxy mates, living it large! 😂😂
Roxy Music really evolved over time. This was in their Glam Rock days. On that note, I think you guys would like Ballroom Blitz by The Sweet. Do check it out
Roxy music had some amazing talent. Singer Bryan Ferry had a great career, in and out of Roxy Music. I remember when Let's Stick Together lp came out, followed by In Your Mind. Guitarist, Phil Manzenara played some tracks for Godley and Creme, he then put an amazing line up together under the name of Phil Manzenana's 801. Listen Now was the stand out album in my opinion. Meanwhile, there was another Roxy Music resurgence, followed by more solo albums by Bryan Ferry. This era included the hauntingly beautiful Trak, Avalon.
Awesome band, part of the British glam rock scene of the early 70s,along with Sweet,Slade,Bowie,T.Rex, Suzi Quatro,The Glitter Band,Wizzard,Elton John,Alvin Stardust,Mud,Rubettes, and that list could go on and on - more 70s glam rock guys, and if you really want sparkle - you cannot go past The Glitter Band.
Top of the pops was a go to show for all chart loving people from 60’s right through to 20’s Bryan Ferry was huge back in the day great reaction as usual 👍👍
In my elderly opinion thinking that Roxy Music deserve recognition because they helped to create S + The Banshees is a bit like thinking that The Solar System is significant because it created a tiny asteroid. [I rate Roxy third amongst all bands]. Then again I do not know many songs by the Hong Kong Gardeners.
Absolute gold for every DJ in the country at the time, if people were being slow to fill the dance floor the answer was to slap on Roxy Music and stand back.
This is my favorite vintage of Roxy. I saw them on the Siren tour, and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. Yes, that green and black suit is awesome.
This was early Roxy Music when they were more pop punk.( not real punk). They went more soft rock when MTV started. Real punk bands were Suzi and the Banshees, Rocket From The Tombs, Sid Vicious, The Ramones, The Buzzcocks and The Damned.
That was their breakthru single not on thier first album. React to any song off of thier first 3 albums Roxy Music, For Your Pleasure, Stranded it will blow your mind
Fantastic memories for me back in 72. Roxy Music gods. Let me point you in the direction of another band from that era, Be Bop Deluxe led by Bill Nelson. Check them out.
I am old enough to remember this,Ferry had the air of cavalier certainty unique to the priveliged aristocrat, maybe he is? Too cool for the common man to ever be.The later work doubled down on this.Who else does that style?Maybe an English thing.
Bryan Ferry has an aristocratic air, but his father was a "farm labourer," poor really. Art school was free at that time in England, and he met most of his other bandmates at that art school. I imagine his accent is very different from the accent he grew up with.
Bryan Ferry and ROXY MUSIC . They are still around after 50 years These guys were different . Bryan Ferry went on a solo career for awhile . But like i say they r still touring .
This guy just wants to be the artist. She has a more open view. He'd have stuck out like bad breath watching Roxy in the mid 70s to mid 80s. She would have graced a cocktail dress and tiger tail circa Jerry Hall.
There is nothing about this that I like. Two minutes hawking ugly merch and then two people listening to a song I like from 50 years ago. Are people supposed to marvel at them hearing something for the first time? I guess I'm missing the entertainment value here. Pointless and boring.
Roxy music - in every dream home a heartache...!!!!
That song is so great
Absolutely!..my mum use to tell me to turn off that creepy song, when I played this track! 😂😂

This group is an influence on a COUNTLESS number of bands.
This band influenced Bowie, Kiss, Chic, every punk/post punk, new wave, new romantic band - i could keep going.
I think it might be the other way around as regards Bowie :)
@@NigelThompson-hb5jg Look up interviews with Bowie from 1974-75 - he clearly mentions them as an influence.
@@TweedSuitabsolutely
Er...no to Bowie - he pre-dated them.
Just for clarity - I bought this when it came out
Brian Eno on Synth ….

This songs is actually from 1972.
Roxy Music influenced far far more bands than any other band ever did
Err the beatles
@@edwardsadler3348 definitely
With Beatles.. fersure!
I bet the ghosts of Velvet Underground probably disagree, but they're in no position to complain.
@@edwardsadler3348He doesn't know the Beatles.
The other woodwind instrument is an Oboe btw.

Sparkly, glittery, smooth, cool, fashion, heady days. Yep that was my seventies as a teen
My sis was a huge Roxy fan I woke up to this song every morning from the little record player she had by the side of her bed in our shared bedroom for months until she could afford another.

This song came out many years before Velvet Goldmine, what are you talking about?
@@vambo13257 The song was in the movie which dealt with music and personalities of the 1970s. I did not say that the song came out at the same time as the movie. It was used in the soundtrack.
Talking Heads, not The Talking Heads. They even have an album titled "The Name of this band is Talking Heads"
"Velvet Goldmine" came out in 1998. "Virginia Plain" was a hit single in 1972.
The influence you can hear is a certain Mr Eno, who went on to co-operate with Bowie on the Berlin trilogy.

Wow a great band this record should be on the radio every day.....
Id almost forgotten how good this song actually is . Great reaction 💚👍
Early 70s.. Greatest band on Planet Earth.. Period!

I was 14, on the Waltzers, at Torkington fair. They played this and other 70s glam-rock. It just.. doesn't... get ... more...exciting.
The sax player also plays the oboe.
Amazing track for 72
Antony Price did quite a job designing the band's outfits back then.

Among the many unique things in Roxy Music, Andy Mackay's woodwind work added a little something special to their sound.
Roxy Music was atonal and had mysterious lyrics.
ALL Roxy is GREAT! The first releases are my favorite, but their entire catalogue is genius.
On silver gloves and synth was co founder and legend, Brian Eno.
Single biggest influence of Duran Duran...followed by Bowie..2,nd biggest.

You CANNOT place Roxy alongside those acts. Different planet!
@@SKYSAW59Absolutely spot on, with the exception of Bowie.
The Glitter Band is a downright insult!

50th anniversary of roxy music still on tour lets have some respect
Yes I loved the 70s with the glam rock.
Mother of Pearl
You're seeing Brian Ferry in his Glam Rock days. He later evolved into a singer in his own right, put a suit on, and became very 'cool'
Glam glam glam
Roxy music, T Rex, David Bowie, this 1972, glam was King.
ENO!!
Try Roxy Music ‘Editions of You’ killer track!
Brian Eno on keyboard. Wonder if he went on to do anything...
Amazing music try The Sparks.. This town aint big enough for the both of us… You ‘all be in shock ( released in 1974!)

This is progressive music, there is more freedom in progressive music than in regular rock, so I like it a lot.
Out of the blue, pyjamarama and both ends burning, and for your pleasure (live track) blow your socks off ✌️🌬️📴
