They weren't called "poppin' Johnnies" because they were in synch! Amazing work on getting all the different stuff to work together, with a little voodoo on the injectors! 👍👍
Thank you Sir! Love the pulling tractor talk and especially love the pulling videos from back in the day! This is back when real mechanics got BIG HP out of engines without the benefits of "off the shelf performance parts".
Thanks for sharing the video Bill. Neat tractor you have in Hazardous Material. Neat tractors you were pulling with back then. I never pulled anything but stock antiques Farmall and John Deere and the same with the modern ones too. Never had any money growing up like most farm boys. But we all had fun.
Always enjoy you sharing your knowledge. Take something away every time. What an undertaking it will be when you sell out and move. Hope you are having a good week Bill . TAKE CARE !!!
Great video Bill! I’d always heard that turbos wouldn’t work on a JD 2 cylinder because the intake and exhaust pulses were too far apart to be able to build any boost (or something to that effect). You obviously cracked the code!
The cylinders don't fire in unison, not even at 180 degrees rotation of the crank shaft, similar to a Harley engine. Looking good Bill ! I like the Viking spar pump for about anything with oil , hot oil , fuel oil , hydraulics , it's available in 5 and 8 gallons per minute delivery. It is also used on N14 Cummins as a oil pump mounted on the outside of the engine,Detroit Diesel as a fuel lift pump, hydraulic pump for dump bed trucks and semis.
Man I like your style! You remind me of a slightly older version of myself 😂. I can make things happen with not much, and don't worry, I did freeze frame and look up what was there... It makes sense for an uneven running 2 cylinder.😅 Thanks for sharing, keep up the story telling. Much appreciated, J.F🇨🇦
I wonder how hazmat would run against the modern big bore 2 cylinders we’re running nowadays. Been running my 7.75x9.75 Murphy’s block 70 against a couple Oliver’s running turbo 5.9’s at 4000rpms…. And my 70 has been at the top of the pile 3 of the 4 times we’ve squared off, with the other being a 2nd place finish.
Hey Brian! It would be no contest, Hazard wouldn't come close. Our 6.25"X 8.25" aspirated 720 diesel would almost always beat it. At the time it was built, it was just a cheap way to be competitive and have some fun! I'm sure I didn't have over $2,500 in it, just built it out of stuff I had laying around. Keep on Pullin'!
Always interesting to see the power that can be achieved in these old beasts whatever the color. Makes me wonder about the longevity before they morph into "self-destruct" mode. Ahh...the beauty of scrap pile engineering.
How did you start that beast with no pony motor? The more I watch your videos the more I’m amazed by your mechanical knowledge. Hurry up and get to Tennessee so l can just meet you.
Great video. What pistons did you have running that high of RPMS. Whoops maybe you don't want to say. I'm always looking for something to sup up the old jd 60. Go John Deere. Again I loved the video!!
I have a trencher with a wisconsin motor and it is a TJD. It fires like a 2 cyl john deere. They also made a motor I think its a THD that was also 2 cyl but it fired evenly but it had huge counter weights to offset both pistons being up at the same time. Guys make new cranks for these 2 cyl tractors but I assume there is not enough room in there for counter weights that big but could you install the counter weights on the outside?
@@so.md.dirtfarmer2226 not sure if I told you but I made a crank for our 4010. It has 5.400 stroke. It has big counterweights but not near as big as the ones you would need
I would guess the small tube in the exhaust is a pipe coming from the reserve air tank and there appears to be a valve in this line so when the boost gets too high, it relieves the excess into the exhaust to help drive the charger.
@@so.md.dirtfarmer2226I heard of old guys doing that years ago on 6 cyl tractors probably because the turbos they were using were not the right for the motor. One guy I heard that from was Dave Haley that used to pull an AC D21. He also pulled the tractor Haleys Comet. You may know the name.

Thanks for another look into the past! I can't wait to see the 70 live again.
Really injoyed the story about your turboed 70 thanks Bill

Wow!! Thanks for the ride
.Antique tractor pulling at its best
Those cats following you around waiting for a handout... those are called 'democats'😅
That's an awesome running tractor
Very much enjoy you listing the different engine components specifically, especially where they were originally sourced from!

It don’t have to be pretty to make a statement awesome pull

Thanks for sharing. I'd like to see that thing in person someday. Hopefully you'll get her back out here soon.
Ya know Bill, I really miss those days! It's a shame that they passed so fast! I figure that is what our folks said to. May God bless you my friend!
Awesome cool history lesson and video Bill, God Bless
Been waiting on this one!! That thing is amazing!! Love the setup, looks like you were out front most of the time! Thank you sir!!
Great video! Enjoyed the old footage too!
We had a a70 and a 730. 730 was 5 3/4 mph and 70 6 1/2 of is remember right. Awesome job with that old girl!

Great video. I loved it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
That girl flagging got her workout that day

You sir have a museum of tractor pullin history... Can I have your autograph?
you need to bring it if you ever get to come down here and pull

I made a bracket and put a small 24 volt starter from a 4020 on it.

Hey, I talked about that in the first video, check it out.
Great videos with a lot of knowledge as always. That flag girl wasn't scared, was she! Ha
Did you ever pull at the Buck back in the 70s and 80s ?
I can't remember their name but someone from Lothian ran there all the time.
I pulled at the Buck in the late 80s, but that probably wasn't me.
Good old days when you didn’t have to spend a lot of money just like garden tractor pulling ,every thing gets expensive.
Say what you will the John Deere 70 is one marvelous machine, from any way you want to view it from

I think you could fit them inside, I've always wanted to try to do a crank like that but never took the time.

That tractor made alot of hay i wish i new where dad got them
It's very cool to know you guys were farming with that tractor!
Did you have any rules?
Hey Glenn! There was safety rules, and some limitations but not many.
👍👍🇺🇸
are these ideas just yours or you see these somewere?
I look, listen, and read a lot, use many ideas that others have done that work, and come up with a couple ideas myself.
Flag girl, hooks runs, records distance,flags,unhooks..aint noone else there to help ??
That pull they must have been short-handed.
...just hit with the clay bar.. on paint
I know what that tank is. A nuclear fission chamber. Just like on your other tractor. Lol.
I am scared to death if that thing is going to blow in 40 million pieces right in your face. I hope not
