Okinawa, ‘75-78, 13 to 15 years old. All this anime was so amazing to me and my friends. Throw in Kamen Rider, all the giant robot stuff. The animation looks rough compared to today’s standards but the wonder it in inspired.....

Casshern might be my favourite Tatsunoko show. I also feel like Casshan got the best 90s OVA of all of the Tatsunoko reboots.
Fun fact: the guy who sang the opening to Casshern is also the same guy who sang the opening to Himitsu Sentai Gorenger

Casshern was Isao Sasaki's anisong debut and also his first song made by Shunsuke Kikuchi.
Casshern live action and Casshern Sins are the darker incarnations.
But man is the live action a beautiful movie.
if you think about it casshern sins is a sequel of a bad ending if you remember casshern forget his memories and never thought that he was once a human from the beginning till the end
I miss old 2d anime. I love companies like discotek and sentai filmworks that keep my love alive.
I was quite sad when Sins didn't connect to the original. It could work with a few changes and I still view them as one continuity in my head.
Breaking Boss was basically the same character in the original series and Sins.

i remember discovering Cashshan through tatsunoko vs capcom. I later watched Casshan Sins, but i obviously knew this wasnt the original casshan but never got around to seeing the original show. Really enjoyed Sins but idk how it compares to the original in terms of reception from a fan standpoint. Both are drastically different with Sins being alot darker narrative wise. Hopefully ill see a casshan sins video from you as well cuz i learned alot from this one.
My take is casshan sins is a complete reboot and has nothing to do with the original~ unfortunately~
always knew Casshern had his own show, i've just never seen it. Casshern Sins was pretty good too! i love the fact that he was a playable character in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, that was my first time seeing him
I was trying to see why there were so many comments on the depth of Friender's name. Holy moly! That's changed my perspective on him.
Just watched the anime through for the second time. 8 or 9 out of 10. I think a lot of confusion/frustration can be alleviated if you accept that each episode has a long time skip you don't see and stuff happening off screen. Also, the fact that you are thrust into the world AFTER everything has already gone down.

As a long-time Megaman fan I really owe it to myself to look into this show someday.

Love this show, I loved the bond Casshern had with Luna as well as Buraiking Boss's menacing presence
It's on Prime now, with a ton of other classic anime! At least here in Italy anyway. I watched a few episodes not long ago, thinking I was gonna watch Tekkaman, although I quickly realized it wasn't. I hope they will keep all these old gems on their catalogue, with all the junk Prime has it would be a smart move imo.

Kenny and John are some of my favorite channels. Love a nice deep dive on anime before the 90’s. For how much influence they have had on the industry it’s sad that they get no recognition in the US.
The funny thing is even though Casshan is called an android, he's more of a cyborg since he has a human consciousness. And also, Casshan shares his family name with 8-Man, who goes by "Hachiro Azuma". In fact, 8-Man and Casshan are both quite similar in many ways. They're both cyborg superheroes who had their essences transferred from their human bodies into robotic ones, and they both fight evil forces. Though, 8-Man debuted a decade before Casshan. So its likely Casshan also drew inspiration from 8-Man.

5:26 if you think that name is ridiculous, when the original Casshern anime got dubbed into Spanish in the 90s, the show was called Superboy Galactico (Galactic Superboy), while Casshern was named Teseo
Luckily this year a Mexican anime distributor finally gave Casshern Sins an Spanish dub and it's pretty well done

I always preferred Freinder over the Fleinder subtitle. Where do you get your production info? Italian translations? Your videos are always informative about obscure details. Looking back there is a surprising amount of sci-fi heroes with mangakas of those days. Even Devilman had roots with science.
Italian sources are great for tatsunoko stuff but I mostly search for production information in Japanese using high quality translators (fiverr) to get info from Japanese web pages.
There was a lot of info regarding Casshan production in a commentary track only included on the Japanese blu-ray which was helpful in making this video.
The info about dog manga actually came from a Japanese blog post by a Japanese man in his 60’s who said now that he had money he was investing in all the comics he couldn’t afford as a kid.
@@MercuryFalcon Thank you for the clarification. I remember browsing on Wikipedia for Karas & the footnotes/workcited mentions that it was suppossed to be a darker Casshan at one point.

Though the Casshern topic is much larger, I wish you'd included the new series, Casshern sins and the live-action movie as well, I'm very curious what stories they had behind the scenes. It seems to me that it's hard to find info about these, maybe there are more in Japanese, I wish I could read that...
I might cover those in the future, I left them out here since I actually haven't seen the live action movie and Casshern Sins wasn't created by Tatsunoko but by a team at Studio Madhouse (still a good series though).
@@MercuryFalcon Yes, Casshern sins is awesome, I'm glad Madhouse made it, they make good stuff, I'm curious especially how this whole remake idea got to their studio and how and why did they change it into a more philosophical and slow paced story, though looking it up I see that the Casshern OVA was already made for a more mature audience. What is it about?
The story is, there is scientist who invested a suit that allot the hero to fly, going through walls. And the ending is a hero wear this special suit and flying out and explore other planets and never come back.
