  • This video has been archived. Comments are not moderated. I came across this ancient relic close to a year ago(as of upload date). The tape itself is long gone. This was captured directly from my VCR onto my video capture PC.
    IDK what resolution this will be, though it IS 60FPS when viewing the file properties on my computer. It may or may not show up as 60FPS, let alone HD, on UA-cam.
    This tape may be rare, it may be common, I don't know. Please feel free to explain how rare/common this tape is in the comments section.
    EDIT 4/11/2020: It turns out that the video that was recorded onto this tape around 22-23 years ago was originally recorded on Friday, August 29, 1997.
    EDIT 5/27/2024: 1080p60 reupload!
    • 1997 Dish Installation...
    EDIT 06/JUL/24: One of the background music tracks has been identified and located!

    I installed my DishTV antenna and receiver in this time frame. There was no Dish Factory Service at that time... it was Do-It-Yourself all the way. I bought my receiver Plus Dish as a package from a Ham Radio Retailer in Maine for my home in MD. Had no way to find nor view this video. I forget where the instructions came from to install and point the Dish - no meter in those days. I remember my wife holding a small TV out a window so that I could see and hear it as I pointed the Dish.
    Still a Dish Customer, and they are still using the RG-6 Coax I ran through out my home for the install. May be a Hopper and Joey in the future. lol

      Wait? You still have the 90’s equipment to this day or something from the early 2000’s? I think the equipment from the 90’s will still work to this day but the picture might be really bad, and the guide may not work at all but at least you could still watch tv

    I was one of the first to get Direct in Florida. I called a Sears Store in one of the first states allowed to sell it and had it shipped to my home. All of my neighbors came over to see it. I switched to Dish Network later

    I used to work for Dish Network and the equipment used in this video is called Legacy. After that Dish upgraded the equipment to DIsh Pro and Dish Pro Plus. Now they new equipment but i do not know what they call it.

      Legacy came out at the time this video was produced (96). Then in 2001, DishPro came out, with the first receivers being DP301, DP-PVR501/508, 721 (that was released in 2002), and 311. Then in 2003/04, DishPro Plus was introduced, bringing out the dual tuners like the 322 (dual-tuner version of the 301/311) 522, 625, 942 and more receivers to come.
      Nowadays, I think Dish is using DP Hybrid or DP X, something that I may need to do more research on.

    A rare dish on demand feature intro at 14:48 with the boxer instead of the microphone and film wheel.

    The Model used in this setup, I think is a Model 3000 based on the interface. In 2005-2012, they used a new logo with a "TV GUIDE" which oddly was very fuzzy. I assume there was a firmware update or something like that.

    I first got DirecTV in 2000. It was just amazing. The whole premium package. TV was great back then.

      Nowadays, it's hardly worth watching. I haven't watched TV on my own set in several months. Haven't regularly watched it in about a year.

    I think my parents used to have a copy of this video and the instruction manual contained with in it. It all seems vaguely familiar. Granted whenever we would move, the satellite system would be sat up similarly to this video. So, maybe I'm just confusing it with real life memories.

    • @TCGProductions03
      @TCGProductions03  3 роки тому +1

      Interesting. Was it left behind in a box with 2 spools of cable when you moved?

      @@TCGProductions03 Short Version: I honestly don't remember. We stopped using the equipment over 13 years ago.
      Long Version: My parents were mainly using the equipment for the SkyAngel service granted every now and then they would set up a second one for DISH Network. Back then SkyAngel used the same satellite equipment as DISH and my parents were one of the first subscribers, they subscribed back in 1997 or 98ish, so they were eligible for the "lifetime membership". When ever we would move, which was at least 6 times between 1998-2008, my parents would, eventually, set up the equipment. However, SkyAngel decided to switch to being an IPTV service provider and "flipped the switch" so to speak on their satellite service in April 2008. Around this time, they stopped using the equipment for good.
      As a side note, when SkyAngel decided to do the switch to being an IPTV service they also decided not to honor the "lifetime memberships" of early subscribers who paid for it when it was a satellite service. This obviously infuriated a lot of subscribers of that time period including my dad. Despite getting ad pamphlets in the mail warning of the switch over and after the switch over he refused to try out the new service for nearly a year or so. (Granted he eventually did cave in and tried it out. However, he wasn't satisfied with it enough to renew his new contract after it expired, or something along those lines.)
      So, if I remember right both sets of equipment sat in storage for a really long time. I believe that he left the IPTV box in a shed behind his old house, the old satellite equipment was most likely back there to, not sure if he disposed of it before doing our last move.

      @@prfo5554 Did you move in 2006-ish? That's when the house I'm in now became empty. We moved in here in 2007 and I digitized this videotape in 2016 or so. It was in a box in the garage on some shelves.

      @prfo5554 3 роки тому +1

      @@TCGProductions03We actually did do a move in mid-2006. At that time we were still using the equipment. Granted, if we did have a tape, I'm not sure if we took it with us. I was a little kid at the time and that was a minuet detail considering how big the move was. However, we moved out the house were we stopped using the equipment in mid-2012.
