I bought a Sony satellite system back in summer of 1996 and I loved it. I remember being able to program the remote with my favorite 5 channels, a feature that they got rid of and replaced with a "previous channel" for years...the nice part about the Sony's was they had a blinking light, blinking faster as you got closer to hitting the satellite feed. It wasn't easy finding the signal, though...I was pretty much ready to give up until my I heard my Dad outside screaming that he found it. I remember when I first started seeing home satellite ads, they made it look like you could actually put one of the dishes indoors, positioned out through the window...I was under the impression that you could just move it around. HAHA

messngretz for real dude. It was such a 90s 2000s thing to do. I especially love the guy in his flannel and ready to tackle it attitude.

Thank you for posting! Sony's system did not have the popularity that RCA's did, and the exposed cable wire coming off of the LNB made the dish itself different from what RCA, GE, Panasonic, etc. had produced. Their receivers, however, were faster and better than RCA's. Thank you for posting! Brings back memories. :^)

Ahh, I remember back in the day you bought the dish and receiver, got a installation kit of cable and odds and ends. Only thing you had to pay for was the programming, I had went with dish network. Oh, the days you owned the receiver and weren't charged monthly rental or hidden fees

Wow.. nostalgia! My dad had this system back in the day. he had a box and I had one.. up in my room. It was a great system back in the day. I rem the lesson I got when I discovered the hotnetwork or spice.. playboy ect.. he wasn’t happy when he got the bill, lol... I was a teen boy(nuff said)he made me pay it. Lol. But it got worse from there.. then I learned that the phone line was only needed for PPV, so I would disconnect it, watch all these movies for “free” or so I thought... months and months worth and then like 6mos later I plugged it back in and all of the PPVs that were bought got sent in and he got billed.. yea... lol, good times.. never did it again. The other thing I liked about it, was the music stations.. I actually listened to those a lot and then when Napster came around.. I used this to listen, if it was a good tune, I would then reference the song and DL it. I really liked this Sony system.. lots of cool memories, lol.

My parents started using Pay Per View when they got DIRECTV. They started using Pay Per View for a Program called "Mr. Holland's Opus (1995)."

I like how they used a Trinitron XBR television for the demo. I think it must weigh 999999 lbs.

I remember my dad getting a dish in the 90's but I don't remember the year. We moved from that house I believe in 98 so I say 96 or 97 to be likely dates. At some point I remember finding a VHS tape around the early 2000's that I assume came from it though I think we got another dish in our new house so could be from that as well. I know it was about this dish install but I don't remember if this video on UA-cam is the same or not. I just happened to think about the tape and tried to look it up on here.
