I’ve started to collect leaves. I mow the lawn where leaves fall & get a grasscatcher full of leaves & grass chopped up together. This easy-to-handle material is spread over my beds as a blanket. There is no depth that smothers the ground, put on as much as you can. In spring, the ground underneath is soft as foam & the top can be incorporated in as nutrient.

You have grown so much Jessie I know lots of things have failed but even more hasn’t. It’s ok to just “be” in your garden relaxing. You don’t have to be doing loads. A lot of our toms were very sharp to taste that’s lack of warmth. But with others I roast to make my sauce. It’s delish. Loved your trip out into the city. See you next time👋🏻

Lovely vlog & you have such a warming relationship with your Mum. The cooking clips give me inspiration too. I wish we could order the same mulch here in Norwich. I have heavy clay soil, been adding rotted manure (prob not enough) and mushroom compost as I can get those free or cheap. But the bags you use look such good quality. As for Lil, LOVE HER….precious little floof 🎉

The plot is looking fab, also great to see the plots around you are also getting tidied. Let's all hope tomatoes are better next year ! I have ordered lots from Baker Creek, so plenty of different varieties to try. Please keep vigilant as the site my plot is on has had most of the sheds ransacked even if there was nothing to steal ( we have learned to not keep anything power tool wise or expensive tools like wolf garten on our plots and mostly to leave doors unlocked ) Take care. x

I’ve just had the last of my runner beans and courgettes still producing very slowly.

I too was so excited yesterday like you my seedlings struggled through late winter/ spring but yesterday I harvested one beautiful size cauliflower and multicolour carrots, so not all failed. My later planted our greens slow to take off are now doing extremely well so like you all is not lost. Now will my tomato seedlings grow, the cucumbers have shot up whilst indoors so now outdoors in a little seedling house hoping the snails stay away

    @AnyKeyLady 2 дні тому

Hey Jessie hope you are doing well?
Tomatoes look fab Jessie and reminds me of those fruit platters you get on that table! Ours are taking ages to ripen from green. We just need to keep checking to see if we have any blighty ones that can affect the rest. I ended up making little newspaper cups for them so if they got soggy bottoms they didn't ruin the rest in the boxes. I then lightly place a newspaper on top of them all and concertina the boxes so they get airflow.
Nice one of the plots has been cleared now by the council. Should help with the pest pressure a bit.
We picked our one and only chilli and now they are up in the bathroom, with the peppers and the other chilli plants to overwinter.
Better the Kids saying Harry Kane rather than meming on Harry Maguire for a change!
Bet you are glad the poly is all sorted now. Hopefully you can sort out the rat situation.
I am literally lost without my to do list and I get easily distracted as it is! lol
I feel the same about this year. So many projects I wanted to do but with the lack of decent weather, it was mainly just doing the essentials when we had good weather and time to do them in those good weather days.
Also really gutted having to take down the tomatoes early and hardly anything germinating for autumn. Our tomatoes out front are still going but are also getting snailed! Waiting to get out and get some more compost to finish off the front bed. Waiting for the last of the cucumbers to ripen too.
We applied the nematodes for fungus gnats indoors and so far we have seen a reduction. I am hoping that it is working and not just a seasonal thing of die back. We got a 10% discount from signing up to the website, which was cool. Have you got some for the slugs, etc before?
We are still getting yellow beans and green beans but have some ear marked for seed saving.
We also planted out the first 3 of tundra cabbage in the tomato bed. You might think we are crazy but we put up garden mesh all over the tomato trellis and started on the runner bean side. This will be for next year too and I want to make a "doorway" to get in and not bend over/ crouch. Hopefully, it will keep out the blackfly/ aphids and shield bugs as well as birds. Finger crossed the foxes and rats don't destroy it! Nothing in this big bed split in two sections, don't require pollinators and I want to make a "lid" for the bed with poly plastic like a brolly. Something lightweight to attach to the existing frames, in case we have another spring summer like this year. If we have the budget, we might get some shade cloth too, just to cover all bases (pardon the pun!). At least we didn't have to deal with sunburnt plants this year!
Will look up those links thanks Jessie! Don't make the same mistake we did many years ago with citronella oil and getting one that you use in an oil burner! Great for garden parties but not for pest control!
Hope you find your list soon! I sometimes photograph it, if I need to take it somewhere out of the house. Take care x

My plot is going through the similar season related things as yours, as usual. Unfortunately I have a lot of infrastructure issues now. Beds are rotting, paths have sunk, holes have opened, those kind of things. There are also tons of building materials littered around every where to fix all those things but darkness has fallen. Every chore now is a direct challenge to King Winter. Nasty opponent that one.

Has there been any change in the rules for burning on your allotment? It’s not autumn without a fire. :( A little rocket-stove could heat up water, make some ashes, and put sticks to good use. You collected a nice bag of mulberry sticks! My garden is done for the year - Zone 5. Lots of pumpkin and squash, a few green tomatoes. Time to burn dead vines.

I'm so very glad you managed to get a lovely harvest after such a struggle this year and slow start. Mine have long gone as well blighted (outside) but I'm thinking about trying a little experiment next year - have you heard of LABs? I'm going to try and make some up (Rice water mixed with whey) as it's supposed to work wonders on powdery mildew, but I'm going to try spraying my tomato plants with it also as I reckon it could help protect from blight. I came across it as I was looking up if there were Allium leaf miner traps or nematodes - I came across an article on a site starting that some growers have had good success spraying their crops with whey. Quite interesting.
Anyway, I may have already put in two orders for more tomato varieties to try next year haha!! (It's an addiction I swear)
So here goes, I'm going to try:
PAUL ROBESON (Many people raving about this one)
    MOLTEN LAVA
DR WYCHE'S YELLOW (Robin Gardens said this one was brilliant)
JAPANESE BLACK TRIFELE (On your recommendation)
    BLACK MOUNTAIN PINK
    VELVET RED
    CHEROKEE CHOCOLATE
    MARCHENENGEL
    GLORIA's TREAT (DWARF)
    TIGER PAW
    GERANIUM KISS (MULTIFLORA)
    THORNBURN'S TERRA-COTTA
    IVA'S SWEET WHITE CHERRY
    SANTORINI PASTE
    PURPLE DOG CREEK BEEFSTEAK
    SHIMOFURI (CASCADING)
    AMISH GOLD (SLICER)
    CAFE BULE
    DELTA DWARF
    EMERALD PEAR
    GREEN KRIM (CHERRY)
    GRINCH (DWARF CHERRY)
