    I am a bow freak. Literally owned and tried all bows this past 2 years. The Elite Remedy is my main bow and will be for a long time coming. Being 6'8" and having a 31" draw, it literally is the perfect bow for me. The ATA, the way it holds, the way it shoots and the way it feels, well has made me not even interested in anything new or different. Sure I still own other bows ( Mathews Atlas and Xpedition DLX), but my Remy is the one I always reach for. Just an all around great bow!

    SET is amazingly simple and effective. I used it on my Kure this year and got bare shaft bullet holes in 2-3 shots. My bare, broadheads, and field point arrows are grouping better than I can shoot. Also, I fell in love with the Remedy when I shot it. I’ll get one unless the release something better next week.

    Love the adjustability and tune ability of my new Bowtech Solution. It’s even literally labeled with the actual draw length right on the cam. No press needed with the deadlock technology either.

      I just sold my remedy about a month ago and bought the Solution. The deadlock tech is a little better for tuning that the set technology. I’ll definitely be buying whatever bow tech comes out with at the ATA show!

    Same kind of set up on my bow tech solution,big reason I bought it. Easy adjustability. I like being able to find what is most comfortable for me. Not what a bow shop says I have to shoot,and finding that 1 setting where everything comes together and I can great arrow flight,comfort etc.

    It's nice that with all the technology of these times that some of these manufacturers make sure to take care of the consumer. With lockdowns & supply chain problems it's nice when u invest the $ into something & u can custom fit it for yourself. Not always the case when something needs an expensive tool to make a minor adjustment.

    The EKO cams on my Bear Divergent have the same type of adjustments. I've toyed with it a bunch and found the perfect combo (28.5" draw, 71# and 80% let-off). Couldn't have tinkered nearly as much if it required a trip to a shop to do.

    I agree some people get crazy complicated when it comes to bow tuning. In reality, it isn’t that hard. It is physics. You are putting the energy of the bow directly behind the arrow. It makes the arrows fly straight and the bow much quieter.

  • @TheWVgoodguy22
    @TheWVgoodguy22 2 роки тому

    Looks pretty easy to do. I for one don’t have a bow press either nor have I messed with anything outside of the sight and a little bit with the rest.
    I was actually going to wait until either late winter or spring to get a new bow 🏹 to take over for my old 2006 PSE Fire 🔥 Flight 33. From recommendation on some of your videos and Nate’s from Average Jack Archery 🏹 I was going to drive an hour and a half to the closest Elite dealer. That ease of adjustability and shoot ability was a solid selling point.
    But I decided to check out a new archery 🏹 shop that is more local and the owner is someone who my cousin knows. I had no intention of buying a bow, but they had a PRIME Black 3 there for $600 down from $1000. I called my wife and brought her home this past August.
    Heading into this off-season I need to get some arrows for her. At 29.5 in draw and 65 lbs (up from 60 in my old bow) I am looking at the Sirius SuperNova test kit for 300/350. I previously bought the RF field point test kit, just haven’t used them yet. I believe I have up to 200 grain points. Definitely looking forward to going through the process this spring and summer.

    I sniffed fairy dust a little shooting a heavier arrow this year than last year hoping to make the full jump to 600 grains this summer. Got some new arrows with better spine to try. Thoughts on a hybrid broadhead? I shot one this year with a cut on contact tip and flapper back, shot and killed a the biggest buck of my life that's not the point here. When I shot I got full pass through flapper deployed somewhere in the middle of the deer flappers got bent but cut on contact tip kept going. Broke ribs on both sides. Thoughts ? Shot was quarter away 10 yards 12feet up in tree.

    Brand new bow and brand new strings, I would do a quick and dirty tune. Then shoot it 200 or 300 times, get the strings broke in, get the cams back in time because they will be out of time and then do a serious tune.

    • @WM-jy9dz

      you heard him - he won't touch a bow press so cam timing will be out and no SET technology will fix it. For me a bow press is just another kind of vice that allows me to fix things in a couple of minutes instead of wasting time with fixing things that are not broken.

    Very cool that it is in the Ranch Fairy arsenal.
    Elite should make a "Troy Fowler signature edition"

  • @bigald9560

    Great vid.
    In addition to set up before starting to bare shaft tune, make sure your rest and cams are square and in line first. I started tuning a bow that had lots of cam lean, and ended up moving my rest so that the arrow was way off center. The arrows shoot great out of the bow, but it's probably not the best way to get there. So make sure you have the cams and rest good before you start worrying about the arrows. Just trying to help limit some variables.

    • @WM-jy9dz
      @WM-jy9dz 2 роки тому +1

      for most bows at higher poundage the arrow IS out of center as the riser will flex due to the off-set of the cable guard (during draw the stress in the cable increase while the stress in string will decrease). Therefore the "Centre Shot" specified by the bow manufactures is actually not the geometrical center. When tuning a bow always start with the specified centre shot, especially if it is a new bow.

    I've learned that tinkering with the bow, or bow tuning, whatever you want to call it, is very important for Broadheads. I find it interesting so I "WANT" to learn it for my own gain. For me, it seems like a healthy tuned bow shoots whatever weight arrow I decide to shoot. 380, 420, 500, 650 730, It's rewarding when you take polar opposite arrows weights and shoot them one after another through paper and you get bullet holes. There's a lot of ways to tune things without a press and a million cheat sheets out there regarding yoke tuning. Keep tinkering, because the only thing you get is amazing Broadhead flight

    Hey Troy, I’ve been watching throughout bow season and I’m ready to get on the fairy dust after a disappointing hit on a buck when I hit the scapula and it stopped me from getting the kill. Should I go for a 650 gr arrow to have that Ashby bone splitting threshold or would a 550-575 gr do fine for bone on a whitetail? Also what spine would you recommend to for those weights? I’m going to order the Vulcan test kit and just wondering where to start. Also side note my wife is an RT and I pick her brain on lung and heart shots all the time. Good people to know, those RT’s.

And ill have some single, double, and three bladed heads to try out for a golf bag of destruction. Valkyie Jagerbomb 350's, Tuffhead Meatheads, Iron WIll Wide Solids, and Magnus Stinger 150's. varying insert weight to make them match weight wise and its off to the races

    If I can shoot an arrow bare shaft without vanes and field tip, and then shoot an arrow with a broadhead with vanes (because you have to) and the broadhead is going to direct the front of the arrow while the vanes control the back then what's the point of bare shaft tuning if broadhead and vanes are going to direct the arrow flight.

    • @RanchFairy
      @RanchFairy  Рік тому

      Consistent launch across the whole set of arrows. Everyone thinks because fletch masks poor launch that they are good to go and broadheads will fly
      Nothing could be further from the truth.
      Simply - if you cut the fletch off one of your arrows and it flies crazy…it’s launching exactly the same way with fletch. It’s just masked.
      If it flies “ pretty darn close” to perfect bare shaft - it’s launching the same and
      will be more accurate

      Ok, but what if the bow, and this happens very often, goes out of synch when one of the cables stretches more than the other, for example ? What if you have to give a twist to the string (for fixing peep orientation, for example, or for fine tuning draw lenght or let off) or to both cables when the bow looses some poundage due to the stretch of the cables ?
      I know you often can, with systems like the ones on the Elite or the Bowtech, get rid of a lateral tear without moving the rest from the true center shot and without using a press, but, still, you need a draw board to check everything on your bow and a press to make some important adjustments.

      3. you tune the bow for the particular arrow WITHOUT REQUIREMENT OF CHANGING THE POUNDAGE (or god forbit the DL - the DL depends solely on your form, never should be changed for bow tuning purposes)
      Every bow manufacturer specifies the centre shot for the particular bow - this is a measurement you have to check first after installing your rest - every other approach without checking the centre shot is malarkey and you starting to fix things that are not broken! It is acceptable to move your rest a little bit to get this perfect bullet hole (usually the manufacturer specifies also a tolerance), if you only get this perfect bullet hole when the rest is far out something is horrible wrong and you might have to change the cam position (which is easy to do with S.E.T from Elite, or even easier with the Bowtech system, others like Matthew (top-hats) and PSE will require some shimming).

    Troy, I'm starting to worry that your about done with the bowhunting stuff to take up fishing exclusively. Please don't, there is more work to do. I know you feel like a salmon swimming upstream at times but please stay the course.
