If I don't and it's important enough to me, I'll say so and why. That's how the concept of free speech works. We acknowledge a person's right to say something stupid and then use our own free speech to expose it as something stupid.
That’s a theocracy. We have examples of that around the world. They’re not great places. Just because some person thinks their superstition is the correct one doesn’t make any difference.
Saying you find something weird is a form of respect. Of course depending on the way you do it. Don't need to attack or insult, but if someone is insulted by a question or non-threatening remark, they don't truly believe and it's not your fault that happens.

Lol! This is one of my favorite bits. Funnily enough, the raising of the hand was a two fold thing. Of course, it's a public acknowledgement of honesty. But, also another reason was when branding was in use. When convicted of a crime (thievery, adultery, piracy, etc.), you would be branded on your arm. In essence, it was your criminal record. Raising your hand would show any priors you have.
7:35 Yeah, I've got no problem with people using religious text for literary reference and metaphor...it's when they try to control people as George said, and that comes from blind faith, which is something we do need to get past...There's a saying that goes something like this, "Faith without logic is blind, but logic without faith has no direction." (As you said, be that faith in the self, faith in humanity, faith in the future, ect. those are the kind of faiths we need)
It’s much easier to keep the masses at peace with the promise of a heavenly afterlife like the song says, “and far far away beyond the fields, the tolling of the iron bell, to draw the faithful to their knees and hear the softly spoken magic spell.”

If I don't and it's important enough to me, I'll say so and why. That's how the concept of free speech works. We acknowledge a person's right to say something stupid and then use our own free speech to expose it as something stupid.
George Carlin is one of my favorites.
one of my favorite comedians all time
Uncle George - profound as usual. R.I.P.
i would love to see what he would have to say about the world we live in today...most of his stuff he talks about still holds true today.
I think its also not in good practice to put your religion into the government; which is what Carlin is talking about.
That’s a theocracy. We have examples of that around the world. They’re not great places. Just because some person thinks their superstition is the correct one doesn’t make any difference.
@@christhornycroft3686 Yes. That is what I said.
Good stuff, excellent commentary on your part as well
"Religion is a crutch for people not strong enough to stand up to the unknown without help." - Robert A Heinlein
George was The Goat👑💯👑
Right on. Thanks for sharing.
This is George Carlin! He speak truth!
"I'm a comic, Jim. Not a politician"
Saying you find something weird is a form of respect. Of course depending on the way you do it. Don't need to attack or insult, but if someone is insulted by a question or non-threatening remark, they don't truly believe and it's not your fault that happens.
My grandma graduated high school in a camp. My grandpa drove tofu trucks to feed the families. He fought in korea and got shot for america after pretty much being a slave.
His sories weren't great, he was a bad soldier, but he is legend in my book.
He is very direct
George was the “Socrates “ of my age. The older I get the more he makes sense.
Everyone has the right to believe whatever they want, but no one should be immune from having those beliefs challenged or ridiculed. good ideas do not need protection bad ideas do.
Thank you.
We've never needed George more than now.
I actually liked the fact that George poked fun at religion. I’ve tired of people telling me what to think, that I’m wrong, I’m going to hell, I’m crazy for not believing in Christianity or Jesus (or any other religion). It’s offensive to me! So why must I tipy toe around THEM, so as not to offend THEM? They’ve offended ME all the time when they’re pushy! Like George once said in a bit, ‘keep thy religion to thy self!’
Love me some George!
he was a diamond!
You know... everybody loves Carlin when he got old, cynical, and bitter. This dude has a decades long career. Only his last 20 years did he sound like this. His first 40 were much... happier.
I agree. When he got his start, he was squeaky clean, and hilarious! To me it just shows you don't have to be mean to make people laugh.
My man, @MrLboyd... Love your video. I really like your perspective on these topics by JC and align with your thoughts and reaction to his ideas and comedy. He just kind of makes you think. And when you think, it makes sense and you start to ask questions. IMO 😏
Raising your hand would show any priors you have.
your talk about religion pretty much sums up how I feel as an agnostic
There is a fine line to where George is being serious and when he's joking around. Hopefully folks can tell the difference.
Everyone needs something to believe in. I believe I'll have another beer.
Im on your side.. Ie know this or many years. You are on the right track. Keep watching george.
This was his last routine. He went out with a bang.
The only rights you have are the one's you give yaself...... "Starship Troopers 1959"
"I was catholic untill i reached the age of reason". Is one of Carlins comments that has allways stuck with me.
i understand in 2023 its not easy ,,,to get George and his wisdom,,,but thanx as always for reaction
It’s much easier to keep the masses at peace with the promise of a heavenly afterlife like the song says,
“and far far away beyond the fields, the tolling of the iron bell, to draw the faithful to their knees and hear the softly spoken magic spell.”
Most people are not qualified to hold the opinions they have. Qualified doesn't mean "have a degree" it means being informed enough to have a reasoned intelligent position based on facts.
My mom saw him in a small Club in San Francisco once, this was in the 70s. She asked him if she could get an interview with him, so he did. I think she did it for an article when she was going to San Jose State
congrats for being the one reactor on UA-cam that already knew what he was talking about with internment camps
George Carlin was a philosophically exhausted curmudgeon. I don't blame him. He was a good guy who saw an unjust world and threw sh*t in your face until you saw what was happening. RIP GC while the rest of us try to sort out this sh*t.
U are easily my favorite reactor. I watch a bunch but u are funny, informative, and ur voice is amazing. I think u could make the phone bock sound nice with that voice
You should definitely hear Carlin's "Modern Man."
Here is something that I wrote 1 month ago that encapsulates your sentiment sir:
"I believe that you Believe in it. I have faith that you have Faith in it.
My Belief and Faith are the same notions, we both hold true.
We must therefore believe in the faith we both to have."
Word salad
@@Krawnbundungle Enjoy the appetiser.
3:10 but what if both people are also attacking each other? 😂
Make fun of anything and everything you can, that is true freedom of speech.
@11:00: I got "lucky enough" (I wasn't trying to do this, I just like history and the events happened to line up) to swing by the Japanese American museum in Los Angeles where they have _excellent_ sections about this including a reconstructed internment building and lots of documents; then later drive past (and stay a night near) a camp up near Lone Pine where some of those stories came from. Haunting stuff. If anyone's passing through either of those places and is a history nerd, consider a stop
George was one of the black pill godfathers, my favorite comedian of all time!
Loved your statements of getting over the BS
Carlin, Chapelle and Burr the only 3 to actually teach and be funny at the same time.
They’re not the only 3. Though they are 3 of the best at it.
This is always a tough conversation because I've been through the Christian process and I'll leave it that and I think I have a better chance at 48 years old is to live to be 200....BUT dealing so much with people with very simple lives.... Even as an agnostic at my best I still pray and wish 99% of America was/is religious. I'm sorry sheeple need to be herded. They need a goal a purpose a hope and Lotto ain't enough. jMO. Thx so much my guy as always
fun fact, when sworn into any position to uphold the constitution and the rights of this country it is not REQUIRED that you be sworn in by putting your hand on a christian bible. you literally could put your hand on any book you want
