I love Nick and June so much, I've seen comments from people blaming Nick but he's doing all these things to keep her alive.
True dear, everytime she gets into trouble, he finds a way to " save her life." He didn't intend to fall in love with her. Risky as it is, he is in. He can't help it. Eden was one of the most beautiful girl any man could ask for, yet her looks and innocence didn't change a thing. He couldn't pretend.

Ummm....no. He’s doing these things to keep her close is what he’s doing. He didn’t know what they would do to her once they had her for interrogation. She could have died!
@@cwayzums I think his logic was if I can find her so can they. So he beat them to the punch in hopes of helping her stay alive. But I don’t think he wants to keep her close. I think as much as he loves her he knows she needed to make it to Canada to survive.
@@cwayzums Have we even watched the same series lol. He knew she wouldn’t get killed through the interrogation because Gilead were in need of more handmaids. He had to capture her so to not risk his own position and credibility, which he needs to keep breaking Gilead down from the inside. Making June and the other handmaids his responsibility he would also have more control over what happens to her, and is what made it possible for him to send them on their way to the colony with low security (and possibly timing it with the train passing).
I would really like to see a little bit more of Nicks side and perspective...at least an episode!!!
These 2 are one of the most complex, intrincate yet lovable couples that has ever been written for a tv series. Any time I see them on screen my heart flutters and breaks at the same time. The chemistry between Max and Elisabeth is on another level, and the way they are able to portray their characters and emotions is pure art and talent. Whoever cast them... Thank you.

Nick helped in making Gilead what it is now
His love for June supercedes all that. He is risking everything, compromising everything Gilead is.
June trust Nick, totally. He humbles her. That's love right there. Well ,he cant tame her, he seems to understand her fight.

He really understands her fight and helps her with it. for example he kept the letters and gave them to Luke only for her, for her fight. Not his. I used to think he did it for his fight too but now I understand he’s not fighting. He’s adjusting and surviving, hating Gilead and being a part of it 💔

Glad you're still vidding them and you're still a fan. I know a lot of people have turned on him after he brought her in. The way I see it he went to get her in the first place because he knew they had found her and with his presence he could at least prevent them from killing her like they did that guardian she was with. He couldn't stop them from torturing her because they wanted to know where the handmaids were and only June could help them with that. I'm glad that in the end June seems to understand his position in all of this and told him that she loved him anyways. This isn't the last we've seen of them because we know from the trailer he was asking some Marthas for her and when he does see her he told her that freedom agrees with her. I don't care, if shipping them is wrong I don't want to be right 😂
What ? It’s just so obvious that he helped her and it’s better he was there and could warn her and be there instead of someone else who doesn’t care. It’s obvious he did everything he could to stop torturing and keep her alive. Even manipulated Lawrence. So I agree with you, there’s nothing to be mad at Nick at this point
Yes there’s nothing to be mad at him. I absolutely agree with you. Even at 1st I got angry for them killing that guy. But it was all setup from Nick side for them to believe him. As you said it wasn’t for him someone else would have been there and tortured her on the way to that basement. He was there for he throughout her journey in there. He was her light and only thing kept her sane in that dark world.

She let go of the gun because Nick was the one asking her to do it. He was there for that, to make sure she would not loose her life like this.
I don't get why some people missed that part...
My heart warming moment is when Nick was about to remove restraints at the back of June' a neck inside that van. When he brought his face closer to her, it was magical, love tension was high. I don't know how to explain his look at June. You can see that his world start and end with June. I have repeated that scene so many times than I can count. I was literally in tears.
What am I saying, I am talking about a guy whose wife was kissing another man in front of his eyes and he didn't give a damn. A guy who was forced to sleep with his wife because his girlfriend asked him to.
Yeah , that guy who exposed Gilead to Canada by giving letters to Luke. Waterford' a deal with Canada failed because of him.

Yeah and he’s the same guy now. Helping June as much as he can. Being the one to arrest her in order to protect her and be there for her and to warn her how she can be saved from torturing. The one who wipes her tears and gives her strength to continue the fight by comforting her and loving her. Saaaame guy. I don’t even know why people don’t see it. It’s so fucking obvious! Even the way they direct their scenes and the music they use during their scenes etc , it’s epic ! Oh my gosh help this fandom to open their eyes 😂

This was so well said. The examples you gave just support the fact of his love so much more, I need to rewatch the series because I love it and their relationship so so much. I'm currently reading the books rn lol so I will after. Overall, it's so clear that Nick loves June so much and vice versa, I really hope they have a happy ending together but Idk 😅
I’m like sooo emotional that can’t really put my every thought in words but let’s try. Every scene with them is just so perfect! Their first meeting after so much time apart! I just love their body language and emotional looks the give each other. So much pain and love.
I always thought what it would be like when they finally meet each other. Will she be mad? Or did she stop loving him because of the truth he didn’t tell. And here it is. “There are good men everywhere. Even here. It’s just complicated, you know?” Like no explanation needed!!! She knows in her heart that he is a good man. She doesn’t even doubt it a second and doesn’t want to waste any time arguing or whatever.
Like when he said “im sorry I did what I had to..” and she immediately stopped him because she knows he has no choice and does what’s best to keep her alive.
I’m like was a little bit shocked to see this softness of Nick like everywhere. Even when he’s manipulating Lawrence he is still so soft lmao. Did you see? Like he does it but doesn’t like it and it shows so much.
“She is never coming back to you. - I know. I just want her to stay alive” this just broke my heart so much. he didn’t even think she would ever say a good word to him after she had found out the truth.
And finally the scene on the bridge! Oh wow! Camera spinning is symbolising they don’t give a fuck at this moment if someone will see them together because they missed each other so much , it’s just their moment and all those feeling are so overwhelming you know like the movement of the camera. Idk I can’t even put it into words!!! At first I thought oh my god ??? What are they doing? Someone will see them! And then I read this beautiful Max’s interview “I think sometimes the heart triumphs over the brain”😍😍😍😍
I thought using this song will compliment this beautiful moment. “What if this storm ends and I don’t see you as you are now ever again?” and so they kissed thinking what if this is our last moment ever ??? You never know in Gilead

Here were my initial thoughts on their very complex bond:
I find it frustrating that we still have no more detail on how Nick became a commander last season, and if he doesn't actually believe in Gilead is he remaining in the system as a spy or what? Trying to make things happen from the inside??? otherwise, surely he could go underground and help the resistance? I found it strange that June was not questioning him on any of this, and then that she should be running to him and telling him she loves him at this stage, so openly as well, I mean, wouldn't that threaten to blow his cover? I really thought she would need some explanations from him ..... But now I see that their love really is a rare unconditional thing, and her trust in him does not waiver.
I just think that the writers are making a bit of a mess of his story and character at times, June might not need more clarity but WE do! more insight is required, and sooner rather than later, because I feel like they are stretching out his ambiguity beyond belief at this point!
But on reading your thoughts on them, I am in total agreement in fact! You have good insights into them! And as usual... Your video is flawless! 👍☺
@@Pinkfigleaf these are good questions you are asking. I don’t think he’s in resistance, I don’t see him as someone taking that much risk. At least for his sake, only for June’s. I think he sees no future for himself as he is a war criminal outside Gilead so he does what he has to do to survive carrying a lot of guilt as Max pointed out in his interview. “I think he sees protecting June to the best of his ability as his road to redemption.”- he said. So as I see it June is the only purpose in his life. Yeah I agree, we need clarity but what I love about Nick is that he is always so soft and respective we can’t even imagine him being violent or abusive. So if they wanted to make him some ambiguous man probably dark and seeking for power they totally failed 😂 pff not a chance he is like that. Thank you so much for your comment!
Yes I agree with your views on where Nick sees himself at this point. Obviously in his past he did a lot of things he is ashamed of in the wars.. But I really hope there is redemption for him, and that he doesn't have to give his life to find it! I hope there will be some hope of Nick and June finding a way to be together ... And him surviving! The bond between them is so much more than she ever had with Luke.
Ps: another complex pair I have been loving at the moment (although clearly very very different to the Nick and June relationship!) Is the Darkling and Alina from Shadow and Bone in Netflix! A very contentious ship with A lot of mixed views! Have you seen it?

I’d like to see Luke just walk away. I’m reminded that after years of captivity, Nelson Mandela and his wife embarked on different paths. That scene where Luke learned about June and Nick was heart-wrenching. She told him who and what she had become and what he should do. When people tell you who and what they are, you should listen; no matter how painful.
I'm so much looking forward to their reunion in Canada and how their conversations about Hannah, Gilead, Nick etc. will play out...This will be a key moment for them.
Ugh, MY HEART!! I gotta say though, of all the couples I've ever seen in any of the movies and shows I've seen, Nick and June are probably the most complex and intricate couple I've witnessed yet! I don't know if people have noticed but they don't have a lot of dialogue between each other. Obviously, they have some but not a whole lot compared to that of most typical "couples" have in movies/shows, but yet, their emotions and feelings transcend verbal communication and create this bond together that is hard to deny. Most times, in a movie or show, you can already tell whether or not two people will become a couple and stay a couple in the end, despite whatever will come between then. But with Nick and June, it's hard to tell whether they will continue to stay together because they are on opposite sides, both with their own agendas and goals and in a world like Gilead, it's really difficult to hold onto the love you have for another person and make it work out. We all like to think that love conquers all and will win out in the end but Gilead being the cruel and harsh world that it is, makes that concept really hard to grasp as a possibility. I think that's why people root for June and Nick even more because of how ruthless and brutal the world of Gilead is. There are actual real consequences to their love and it does not come cheaply. I am really hoping for a happy ending for June and Nick though but you can never really tell in show like Handmaid's Tale whether or not they will stay together in the end and if their love for one another is enough.
I think their love its enough for them. They trust what they have. They know what they feel, Gilead might be taking their time together, but it is not taking their feelings for each other. Their lives may be danger but their love is safe, they know that. June could have left Gilead and Nick would have followed her, so that they can enjoy their love in a free country, but it didn't happen. Hannah might be the main reason June is still in Gilead, but what she has with Nick is known and felt by this two. She confessed to her husband, Luke that she found love. This two don't need words to tell their story, we can see it. That's what makes it so real, so unpredictable, so intense, so loveable. I can't get enough of them. Maybe they need this place to remain in each other's lives 🤷♂️
@@helgamoreme4640 I agree, I'm not questioning their love for one another because it's very obvious that there are intense and deep emotions there that they feel for one another that don't need words to convey them. Hannah is definitely the reason why June is still in Gilead but she also seems to have created another mission in addition to rescuing Hannah and that's to dismantle Gilead and free the women. At least, that's what I think. But, I guess what I meant by my earlier comment was if life or the events that will eventually unfold allow June and Nick to stay together till the end. It's obvious a lot of stuff is going to happen that's going to test whether or not June and Nick will be allowed to stay together, despite them having feelings for each other. Just because you love someone deeply doesn't mean that you'll end up together in the end, even if you want to be. Sometimes, situations in life makes staying together really difficult and maybe even impossible because of the situation you're in, the people around you, or you yourself. Kind of like Game of Thrones. Daenerys and John Snow kindled emotions between them and really started showing their feelings for one another but Daenerys's ambitions were more important to her than love. She chose to go after the throne over John and it did not go well for both of them in the end. I feel like something similar MIGHT happen here with June and Nick because June obviously has ambition and a strong determination to do something within Gilead. There's a good possibility that she gives up Nick to achieve her goals to rescue Hannah, destroy Gilead and free all of the women under servitude. And honestly, I see Nick accepting it if June were to let him go because he loves her that much. I think he'd still do whatever it takes to protect her if she were to choose the cause over him though.
But again, I really do hope that they do stay together in the end! I feel like they're going to be tested A LOT but I really hope that they will both make it through alive and together somehow!!

@@eval7952 The short answer is, you can't decide who you're falling in love with. The long answer? Who knows for sure. What we've seen though is:
They subtly joke around each other from the beginning and Nick goes out of protocol (to make her more comfortable because he doesn't want her to commit suicide like the Offred he cut down from the ceiling), he's kind and caring towards her, which she hasn't experienced in a loooong time. And she's a strong woman who's taking action if she wants something (she goes to him to have sex with him). So both of them gradually become inspiring for each other, cause June's strength helps Nick to overcome his inevitability to actually do something and June finds comfort and support in him when she needs to. Add a baby in the mix and we're where we are now.
@@eval7952 I agree with Yunie 333. Sometimes, there aren't any particular reasons why someone falls in love with another. It's like trying to ask why you are friends with someone? Maybe it's because you have a lot in common, or you think a lot alike, or you've been through some struggle together. But in the end, it's because you like them is because you became friends with them. That's why emotions and feelings are so hard to manage and control because there is no rhyme or reason to them. They just are.
But I believe that June and Nick initially took an interest in each other because they were physically attracted to each other. But, as time went by, they started getting entangled in situations which put them both in a struggle they had to endure through together. Going through struggles together really bond people because you understand how the other feels because you went through it with them. I believe that enduring through struggles together cemented their feelings for each other. When you see someone you like go through something painful, you can't help but want to be there for them and try to ease their burden in any way you can.
I think, at first, Nick wanted to prevent another handmaid death in the Waterford house seeing as the last handmaid hung herself. So, he might have wanted to stop that from happening again when June came. But, as he interacted more with June on a daily basis his desire to prevent another handmaid death changed to wanting to protect June specifically because of the strength she showed, despite being a handmaid. Also, they did have a child together and men are often biologically inherent to protect their own, like their wife and child. So, if you mix in the emotions he has for June, the child they made together, and the struggles they've both gone through, makes for an incredibly strong bond and desire to protect and keep.

I was nervous when Nick first appeared at the farm. My mind went back to the Serena and June scene last season and thought "Oh God, June's gonna hate him and never trust him again." I'm so glad that the story isn't playing out like that. June's not questioning his loyality. and still loves him. I don't get the backlash over Nick. He's still the same guy, trying to help June stay alive. He's just a commander now which makes things more difficult.
This is a true definition of " a complicated relationship "

Max Minghella played once in a film Hypathia and his character then was also a servant of a brutal theocracy/fanatism who, out of love, helps a woman. it's interesting to show this impossible struggle between the state and the human. so he destroyed other people and their worlds to save her world, and also himself. such a complex character. my favourite part of Nick is - he doesn't speak much XD

Nick is a hard character. He helped Gilead to become what it is but his love for June is changing him. He is doing everything he can to help June even though he cant do much.
Gilead was helped by people like Nick. Frustrated people, desperate people, cheated people, people who felt rejected and ignored by this society.

All we know from the show is that he basically wanted a job and was manipulated into joining because it would bring him more fairness than the present US would. After, he was a "soldier", which means something greatly but no matter if he killed people or not, I think at some point it was impossible to escape what he got into. Even now with his status and the power he has, he would no doubt be hung on the wall if he were to openly betray Gilead. I think he realized this long before he met June, and went along with his duties to stay alive. And then June gave him a purpose to live for.
@@s3p71c-px3 Even with his current status as a "powerful commander", he really doesn't have that much power. He does everything he can for June, Nicole, and Hannah without getting caught. If he were caught betraying Gilead, he'd be executed and I think he knows that his number one priority now is staying alive to do all he can to help them. If he did something crazy like shoot Commanders openly he wouldn't get far. He's a smart guy, he knows this. The best he can do now is work to destroy Gilead from behind the scenes. I'm not sure there's much else he can do. If it were my ideal world though, I'd just have him get Hannah and take refuge to Canada to be with June, Nicole, and Hannah, and live happily ever after 😂 But Hannah is probably another reason he's staying. He can get info about her for June from inside Gilead. So we'll see what happens 💛

I won't lie, I don't like how the writers are making people hate or doubt Nick right now. I don't think it's consistent with what we already knew about his character. This wonderful video Irina I love this couple their story so much .. I followed you for a long time with our dear couple delena. But this one is unique .. The feelings are so much stronger than anything .. Despite the horrors around them nothing will ever be able to separate them or even her husband to June. Unfortunately she will never come back to him otherwise I will not understand anything. This couple is beautiful, their story is so deep
I really want to see Nick and June stay together, they are so alike and have a deep understanding of eachother, but I have a feeling they will kill off Nick's character. At least she will always have her child with him to remind her everyday.

He starts to search for her and they meet at some kind of factory(?) ...she's wearing a martha outfit and he's talking about how freedom agrees with her...I kinda hope they have enough time to have a serious talk about his past and what he's up to and what she's going to do next here.

He doesn’t die in either of the books. In the 2nd book it just says he is deep underground. And at the end of the book it mentions both June’s daughters meet their fathers. It never mentions his name but it is implied he is alive.
@@marynuce5295 Oh well that’s a relief. I haven’t read them so I wouldn’t know but I read comments before that people said he died in the books. Glad that’s not the case.
I'm so excited to watch the new Season in Germany. I Love the relationship between June and Nick so much. It's so tragical, I am still hoping for a Happy end although I know that it's Impossible.

Currently reading Testaments (I skipped to the end for a sneak peek), so I'm hopeful that the TV series will give Nick and June the peace, love and happy ending that they have fought so hard for.

When we are giving a glimpse of who Nick was before Gilead...he wasn't doing well, couldn't seem to keep a job. This whole world gave him purpose and respect. It's hard to know what he really thinks about the whole thing. But I like to think he just ended up trapped...but now as he has more power he sees that he can use that position to help June.
I am really hoping that this ends well but with HMT its really a toss up. There are so many twists and turns. Its either going to be really good or really bad. AND YET WE COME BACK FOR MORE.

This is not real life people. Just take it for what it's worth, an emotional roller coaster ride, set up for your entertainment. There are some flaws to this show, the actors are doing their best, and the characters are memorable.

I'm not sure what episode you're referring to but if that did happen she might be thinking of how guilty she feels to be "cheating" on Luke. She's mentioned this before. I think she feels bad about loving someone else even though she thought he was dead. Idk though. It could've just been an odd placed flashback that made it give a bad impression

He should also protect himself too. This isn't selfish behaviour I think it's right things to do. He already helped her a lot. I think they both love each other.

Out of all the things that do not make sense in this show, the biggest is why do all the men in the show fall for June as if she were a siren?
Even the show knows she’s annoying as hell, Alma calls her a fat ass. (And that’s just one example)
When have we ever had a character in movie history that gets called a fat ass and at the same time men fall for her, to the point they risk death.

I don't actually see that many men falling for her? She was with Luke before and Nick fell in love with her - for several reasons I think and the time they fell for her can't be compared to the current June ...if you're talking about sexual favours - it's just Fred, even though I think it makes more sense in the book cause the Waterford's are so much older in the book, so wanting to be with a younger woman is not a stretch (At least he's a creep here, so that can be an explanation) and the other commanders but that was all at Jezebel's just taking advantage of their positions and power.
I agree with Yunie 333, I think it is much more about power and all of the men in Gilead viewing all women (not just June) as objects of desire. Keep in mind too that the Handmaids are especially sexualized in a way that Marthas aren’t and that many men in Gilead “aren’t issued women” so sleeping with literally any woman is a show of power. Idk, normally I get really annoyed when I think a narrative is just having all the men fall for a lady because she’s the main character but that’s not bugged me yet in this show because I guess I just don’t see the attention the men give her as loving (besides Nick and Luke).
It totally makes sense to me people fall for her because she’s a strong person with really bright energy
